The Flying Spaghetti Monster smiled upon us last night

2010 August 22

Last night in Hollywood, the Creative Arts Emmys (i.e., the ones they don’t air on TV and takes place a week before but is often better than lame live-broadcast shit), the Flying Spaghetti Monster smiled upon us all. Actually, FSM answered my prayer! Because Jon Hamm was spotted with OLD SPICE GUY Isaiah Mustafa!

My prayers were answered. I said I wanted Jon Hamm + Isaiah Mustafa together in some capacity. Know why they’re standing outside? Because closed spaces cannot contain the dashing handsomity of Hamm & Mustafa standing beside one another. It’s like the splitting the damned atom of awesomeness. IT IS TOO POTENT TO BE CONTAINED.

Old Spice won Best Commercial, Betty White won for SNL (YAY!), Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution won for Best Reality Show and Neil Patrick Harris received a statue for his guest role in that idiotic show with the morons singing in a high school. But NPH deserves most awards so I’m totally okay with it.

Spread the word. Do it.

Daaaaaaaammnnnnnnnnnnnnn….that’s all one can really say about these two.

  • Trish

Oh, man, that photo with Old Spice Guy is proof, PROOF I TELL YOU, that The Hammsome One reads here, is it not????

  • Blue Eyes

I love Don’s old secretary. What a hoot she is!

Secretary is her loud old lady voice:

“Good afternoon, your daughter’s psychiatrist called.”

    HAHA!

    • saskin

I do too. I think after the first episodes she supplied the much needed lightness. It was getting very very dark there for a while. I also like the new and improved Peggy. She looks self-confident and very comfortable in her own skin.

I feel like Don will get out of his depressive mood and figure out a way to save Sally. or maybe wishful thinking. I love Sally.

      • deez

I think maybe he was actually listening to Dr Bobblehead when she said, “Show her that you love her and everything will be alright.” (Or… I guess we’ll find out soon anyway)

    • deez

I like how she announced “Mr Sterling and Mr Cooper” after they were already in front of Don’s desk.

  • margie

I have never watched this show. Can I jump right in or am I gonna have to go to netflix and rent the previous seasons first?

    • saskin

I think you should. I did. First season is fascinating and really introduces the characters in a way that you really ‘get’ them.

    • Blue Eyes

This blog turned me on to Mad Men and now it’s my favorite TV show. I would say it’s very easy to jump right in. It’s pretty easy to figure out the characters.

I find that time period (1964) so fascinating. I love the clothes and the offices with the old selectric typewriters and the old style furniture. I’m pretty sure my parents had a couch like the one in Don Draper’s office, lol!

  • On The Edge

And Top thought she hated “Glee” before…wait til she checks out Mr. Draper mackin’ on Sue Sylvester (at 2:35):

So, can this be the de facto Mad Men open thread? Because this is getting good…I forgot (mostly because I didn’t exist in the 60s) about the conflict of doing business with the Japanese, especially among vets of WWII.

Also, Henry encouraging Betty to be a more “permissive” parent with Sally…when she questions “rewarding” Sally for her misbehavior (by this I mean the haircut). I get that she shouldn’t take her anger at Don out on Sally, but still Sally should have received SOME punishment. This is about the time parenting changed, as I recall.

Works for me! I got a late start on it tonight ;)

    • deez

Damn…I guess the rich kids went to psychologists…I just got “whuppin’s”! LOL!

I had to pause the TV and come back to it after a couple of interruptions, so I’m not exactly clear on the whole Honda thing with the gifts, the books, and the fake ads. I don’t understand why, but it always seems as if people are compelled to yap at me while this show is on. I will have to watch it again before I’m able to add anything constructive to the conversation. :(

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

It’s customary to give gifts in Japan :) Just as in Betty Draper’s world, it is customary to have your housekeeper take your daughter to her first psychologist appointment.

        CARLA I LOVE YOU.

      • On The Edge

As for the fake ads, Honda gave them a set of “rules”…nothing beyond sample copy and storyboards, and spend less than $3,000. Don wanted Ted and the competing ad firm to THINK SCDP were shooting a spec commercial, so Ted actually DID shoot one. That way it would show the Japanese execs SCDP had respected their rules while Ted flounced them.

While I’m here (and PWI) can I just say that I find it freaking HILARIOUS how much voiceover work JH gets? That’s like hiring Mozart to write a symphony, and telling him to only use 7 notes.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Because his voice is so…so…so Jon Hamm-ish.

  • JaneRochester

Whoa. It’s J0n Hamm with Don Draper’s hair. I think that’s a first for me.

This is also the first time I’m seeing Old Spice Guy in the flesh. Yowza.

  • et

Look at all the pretty in one place! Very nice!

  • Blue Eyes

    ahhh, eye candy!

  • Beanbag

    Um… yum. That’s all I got.

  • DeeDee

My son told me Jon Hamm’s name is coming up as possibly the new Batman.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

WHAT? Hey, I love me some Jon Hamm, but Batman does not have to be reinvented again. Now if Nolan would still be directing, I could be on board. Jon Hamm…Michael Caine??!! But I can’t see Christian Bale uh, bailing on it just yet.

I’ve heard Hamm’s name rumored for another super hero, I just can’t think of who it is.

      • deez

I think it was Captain America. Fitting? I say YES.

      • JaneRochester

He’d make a damn fine Superman. We know he can do handsome American Savior, and lord knows he’s got the dork thing going on too.

  • Acrobat

That’s a whole lot of hotness in one picture.

  • ophelia64

    Yep, awesomeness squared. Very nice.

  • muzikizmi

    Very nice. :)

  • sj

    Pretty.
