Late Night Sandwich in The Lou

2010 August 24

The American Idol tour has been a big bag of nothing — except for Big Mike Lynche’s Late Night Sandwich series.

Tonight, Big Mike, Casey James, Andrew Garcia, and several band members went to a St. Louis eatery for a whole lotta FOOD. For the life of me, I am trying to figure out where they are dining. They’re in ST. LOUIS. I should know these things.

Big Mike, where is the TOASTED RAVIOLI? Fried macaroni & cheese? Quesadillas? Fried mushrooms? All of this but no toasted ravioli? Where is the sandwich? Ah yes…these are just the appetizers. Oh. And if you want a REAL sandwich, you best get your asses over to Lion’s Choice. Order it extra beef & extra rare on wheat. I get two of them, so you should probably order 4 or 5. They’re just so damn good. I could probably put down 3 or 4 in one sitting, come to think about it. But I really, really, really love me some Lion’s Choice.

Casey may have to go to Nashville after the tour, and I’m sure Andrew and Big Mike want to see their offspring, but all of that should not take very long. They should really just keep going with this Late Night Sandwich business. Come on…late night sandwich shops are very important and the public needs to be informed. Or maybe the three of them can travel around the country in a food truck. YES! Food trucks are very trendy right now. This could be their ticket to an entirely new audience.

Spread the word. Do it.

TI, my guess is that they’re at Growler’s Pub. The menu and decor both seem to fit.

the best late night snack I ever got in the Lou was from the hot dog guy that hangs in front of the Pagent. best dog ever…with the right amount of grilled onions and peppers. during one STL visit, i had to beg my ex to drive me to the Pagent after a fancy dinner so i can get my grubby hands on one. pure heaven.

Beebee James is now Tweeting Casey went to the hospital! Did he eat too much?

Was that a hot dog or a braut? Interesting…

The reports from the show are that he was visibly ill onstage. I think he needs to start stuffing some vitamins into those sandwiches!

Well now I understand why the Midwest and South have, shall see say, heftier populations. Here in the Northwest we get all amped over broiled salmon with organic greens, and in Missouri you have……deep fried macaroni and cheese patties. I’d actually love to try something like that, but I’m sure if it was on any restaurant menu within a 50 mile radius of me, I’d be eating it weekly.

No joke–Mike should put together an audition tape using Late Night Sandwich footage and submit to cable/satellite channels and some talk shows. He would make a decent TV personality. And he could still work on music, maybe find some distribution deal similiar to what Starbucks does.

    This post looks lonely…

Melinda, OMG that Lion’s Choice sandwich looks GOOD. One of these days I’m going to get my happy little ass up to Missouri and try one of those.

Jane, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was. I know there’s a fish & chips place in NYC that will deep-fry anything you bring in (within reason, like he won’t do Skittles). Saw it on Food Network…one guy brought in a sushi roll and they fried it. I’ll bet if you brought spinach dip they’d find a way to fry it, if it was thick enough. OOH, new get-rich-quick idea…set up a booth at the Texas State Fair and figure out what HASN’T been fried yet…

TI, you know how much I love me some LNS. The magical mix of Big Mike and Casey James cannot be denied. (Even when we’re light on the Casey.)

But I don’t think the tour is a big bag of nothing. In fact, if I had to pick a meme for the S9 Tour, it would be, “Who are these people, and why weren’t they on my TV between January and May?” They’re a loveable bunch of misfits, and I’m so glad I got to meet them.

Ok, that’s off my chest. Back to the glory that is LATE NIGHT SANDWICH.

( I shudder to think what will happen on Saturday, when they are in the town that is consistently voted “Best Restaurants” by every Forbes Traveller who ever Travelled. Of course we all know they’ll be invited to Lee’s parents’ house for suburban barbecue on the gas grill, which is more adorable than I will venture to discuss at length right now. Maybe Casey will get a chance to be adventurous when he comes back to House of Blues in oh…..maybe….July 2011?? But will it be the same without Big Mike? Stay tuned…)

PS Is that spinach dip deep-fried?
