Kris Allen has good taste in water

2010 August 16
by TopIdol

The Smoking Gun posted Kris Allen’s (er, the Kris Allen Band?) tour rider. It’s pretty standard. Towels, beverages, tea, honey, bottled water.

Bottled water…Smartwater, preferably. NO AQUAFINA OR DASANI

I gotta give Allen credit on this one. If forced to purchase bottled water, my first choice is always Smartwater. I won’t even boycott Smartwater, despite the fact both Jennifer Aniston and Tom Brady shill for them. Aquafina and Dasani are terrible. Owned by Pepsi and Coca Cola, respectively, these brands always taste slightly off. Don’t believe me? Do a taste test.

While I’m sure some people might find a preference in water demanding, also keep in mind most venues have deals with either Coke or Pepsi. These brands are often the bottled water sold at venues. (Not that an artist’s demands aren’t nearly always met, but you know…he seems like a polite guy who doesn’t ask for much.) Plus, they’re terrible.

More people should drink tap water, but if you have to drink bottled water, I would stay away from Aquafina and Dasani, because they’re just nasty. Smartwater probably doesn’t make you smarter, and we all know sister product Vitamin Water is all sugar, but Smartwater comes in a sleek bottle and pretty vapid people model for it and well, it just tastes like water. I don’t know about you, but I like my water to taste like water. I don’t even do lemon. BECAUSE I AM BLAND.

And I cannot believe I just wrote a couple of hundred words about bottled water and an American Idol contestant. All while watching Degrassi: The Boiling Point. This Jenna girl is actually auditioning for a fictional “Next Teen Star” contest. She’s a Taylor Swift type. THIS IS ALL SO META.

Spread the word. Do it.

    I find this strangely entertaining.

#Ladies and gentlemen, the governator (and Conan the Barbarian) is following @KrisAllen. This is a milestone of epic proportions. less than a minute ago via web

    • et

That made me giggle. I don’t know why. Maybe because it’s 12:25 am and I need to sleep?

    • Miz

Too funny … and another person I dislike immensely, though I love his wife. He should be looking for a new job about now … body guard? Roadie?

      • scoutfinch

        Anything but making more movies!

  • wino

people think im crazy when i refuse to drink Dasani or Aquafina, but they really do taste like shyt. its like someone took water from the toilet, ran it through rusty pipes and then exposed it to the sun in a tin can for 5 years, before placing it in a bottle.

  • Bombycilla

Ozarka water is the worst ever. It tastes like dirt. Why would they need that many batteries though!?

  • FullTilt

Hi guys! I haven’t logged in forever, but wanted to comment on Kris’s MV for The Truth which I LOVE! I was laughing my ass off at the concern trolls on MJ’s (same old same old there), but I think the video is very well done and suitably low-key which is Kris in a nutshell. As far as the bottled water controversy goes, I don’t care for Vitamin Water, especially with the price tag they put on it, but like most bottled waters just fine.

It’s so nice to be back here again!

  • nerdgirl

Well, Kris Allen has good taste in everything…

  • pootle

The nice part about where I live is that the tap-water is delicious. I’ve had the same kettle for 13 years and the element is still shiny! The water’s so soft it practically tastes sweet.

Shame there are no bloody jobs round here though…

And yay to Kris for continuing to send random non-corporate dorktweets :D

  • jacknife juggernaut

Somehow it’s very funny to me that we’re talking about water in this guy’s rider, when his video is set in the desert…I know, brain=weird.

    • ross

I thought the same thing. Ha.

  • Nich

I live in NY, home to the best tasting tap water ever but I could be biased. I like Dasini but I agree Aquafina tastes weird.

    • Blue Eyes

I love Aquafina grape flavored water.

  • blacklisted

Brooklyn water used to be the best. The good old days…*sigh*

Speaking of KA, here’s The Truth Video:

    • Paulie

Pretty nice, no? I’ve to watch it eleventy times first though before I can properly critique this. :D

      • blacklisted

It’s beautiful. It’s got a sad and heartbreaking feel. I finally understood the bridge change purpose. In this video it’s like an old Kris is telling the young Kris to give up and move on but young Kris isn’t listening.

        • Lauren

          Hmmm I didn’t see that…will watch again. :)

        • Paulie

          My quick takes:

          - I love the imagery. It’s definitely an abstract-type (dare I say Dali-esque) video which probably meant for people to listen to/feel the lyrics more.
          - The wide shots are fabulous! I love the colors, especially Kris’s silhouette in the sunset.
          - I didn’t mind Pat appearing on it. Nice interpretation blacklisted BTW. Although I agree with Lauren that it could’ve done with more Cindy. We didn’t even see her face clearly but I guess that’s part of the concept.

Okay that’s all for now. Not sure if TI will create a separate post about it (though I’m almost positive, given the comments section’s recent track record. :P ) so if I think of more I’ll just post later [t]here.

          • parsenip

Lots of falling apart/disintegrating imagery, which makes sense. Even flying, flaming guitars
which maybe symbolizes that relationships falling apart can have an impact on the creative process (or the opposite – since the guitars are still flying thru
the air). Interesting without being too obtuse.

    • Lauren

Overall, I think it’s a great video. My only critique is that I would have liked a little more of Cindy so that it was clear they were both singing to her, not singing to each other. Maybe when he sings “lying next to you” he could have been lying next to her? Heh, well I really liked it minus the Pat Monohan parts. I like Train, but I really still don’t like him in this song.

      • blacklisted

I think she’s supposed to be a figure he’s reminiscing about. She’s not around and that’s why she’s not lying next to him. He’s doing that romantic recollection about a lover and that’s why he’s looking at the old stuff they have in a trunk. She also doesn’t appear very clearly to him, likely the reason the relationship won’t work. Older Kris is trying to share his wisdom.

        • ross

Tess feels sorry for Kris (again).

TI, will you be doing a thread for this video?

          • deez

LOLOLOLOL….I just read that!!! There is lots of concern there today. The video seems to be panned by MJ’s most prevalent group at a rate of about 20 to 1. Let’s see….it’s BORING (would be bald as well, if the adjective was applicable), doesn’t follow a storyline, it’s cliched video making 101, his lip-synching is strained (lol)and symbolism is just not “in”.

I’m sure I’ve missed something, *sigh*.

I thought it was gorgeous. I love Kirsten’s take…and your comment was spot on, Ross.

          • alicat10025

Without the usual slams, how would we know that we were reading MJs.

          • ross

I’m sure I’ve missed something, *sigh*.

Hm. I think you covered it. Except that several admit to being unable to distinguish Kris from Pat Monahan. I doubt they’d know their ass from their elbow, either! :P

Um, deez, sorry but I was a little annoying yesterday over there, to you. I see red whenever people say Kris should go country. Plus, I stepped on a nest of yellow-jackets yesterday and got stung a lot.

          • On The Edge

“Let’s see….it’s BORING (would be bald as well, if the adjective was applicable)”

If you think of a desert as a head, and grass as hair, then yeah it IS bald!

            :P

          • deez

@Ross…No big deal!! I think what I meant wasn’t actually what came out in my comment… just some country crossover (I think “Is It Over” might be appealing)for broader name recognition…Keith’s fans seem to like him. I can’t even imagine a twangity-twang cry in his beer Kris! LOL! ( suggesting he should be strictly country is weird to me as well, I think it’s because everyone with a Southern accent should be country, right? :) )Yellow jackets never help anything either.

          • ross

            Okay, deez, thanks. :)

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Probably not now…maybe I’ll update this post with it later, but it’s just better if I stay away from the Kristarding these days. Perhaps I’ll be more accepting about it after I go on vacation.

          • Peppermint Patty

Anyone care to tell me Kirsten’s take so I don’t have to wade through MJ’s? Pretty please?

          • Miz

I feel sorry for Tess and her sorry sorry life. Sorry.

          • On The Edge

Patty, here’s what I copied from MJs (I just scanned the usernames til I saw Kirsten)
There is that. Videos are a visual media so beautiful imagery is part of the game. Not every element shown has to move the story forward because stories in videos can be quite trite. If you really start asking questions about everything in a movie video, they quickly fall apart. Why do they change costumes every ten seconds? What is the point of that? It’s to be visually interesting.

But, I do think the mirror is there for a reason. Isn’t the payback when we later see a mirror smashing? The dude’s life is falling apart. Everything he knew about his relationship and himself is being shattered. The mirror is shown whole, reflecting his image. Then a mirror is smashed signifying the shattering of his life. I think that theme is carried through with the guitar burning and the chandeliers exploding. First shown beautiful and whole. Then going up in flames and being destroyed (though we do see a guitar burning briefly before he is shown playing it).

Plus, it is a cool shot.

            This one? Was just funny:

Pat is clearly dressed in a way that makes him look a bit like Kris. Clearly, they want him to look like an older, annoying relative. You know the one. The one that keeps giving advice whether you want it or not. Kind of like Ron’s Auntie Muriel from the Harry Potter Series. At the beginning, he seems to just be mouthing words. We cannot hear him because Kris doesn’t want to here his advice. It is only near the end, when Kris comes to realize that the relationship is over, that he can hear the annoying relative nattering away.

Okay. I’m just making this stuff up because it’s too hot to go outside just now.

Oh, and she likened those dangling cords (wires? strings?) to that plastic bag in “American Beauty” (Google it if you’re unfamiliar).

          • On The Edge

Crap…pretend that the paragraphs running from “There is that…” to “…a cool shot” were in block quotes, please kthxbai.

          • et

See, I am *proud* of me because I took one peek in the Kris video thread and I left and never went back. I think it was dear grumpy Tess’s post that sent me running back out. She’s so *happy*. YAY me! I am taking a break from my rescue transport coordinating because it is so incredibly stressful that it was making me miserable so I figured going in there and having my head explode anyway didn’t make much sense…

(Disclaimer: I am only bragging on yesterday’s accomplishment. I can’t promise what today will hold except I’m still not going to *that* thread. Haha.)

        • Burgundy LaRue

“The Truth” connnects to a common thread to “Live Like We’re Dying.” “Live Like We’re Dying” was all about being in the moment, running toward the sunlight or a true love. “The Truthe” is about realizing that things are over–the love is gone or a dream won’t come true. But you don’t want to face the ‘truth.’ It’s easier to hold to the remnants of whatever brought joy and love into your life, even if that winds up hurting you more. ‘Telling the truth’ is the best thing for you, but you can’t bring yourself to do it. And so you leave the ‘high noon’ of that phase of your life and find yourself in ‘twilight’ mode, in a holding pattern until you make a decision and move forward.

          My two pennies.

          • parsenip

Burgundy – my first observation on watching the TT video was that, visually, it evokes the same feel as the video for LLWD. There’s a continuity of artistic vision there. And since Kris is the common denominator between the 2 (different directors), it’s a good guess we’re seeing his vision, at least with the overall visual mood. I love that.

          • cc

MTE, parsenip and burgundy. The Truth music video looks like the follow-up of the ending of Live like we’re dying video. It was like a full circle moment, it started dark (LLWD) and it ended dark (TT).

        • muzikizmi

I the The Truth is the prequel. He is lost in the desert, dragging the bagging of a failed relationship. Older Kris tells him to cut it loose. Then he finds the abandoned construction site, decided to Live Like he’s Dying, and walks out into the new day.

          • muzikizmi

EDIT: I ‘think’ The Truth. LOL.

          • muzikizmi

Wow, if I fixed all of the errors in the original post, it might take a while. I was really tired yesterday. I’ll blame that.

    • leastofall

I think the MV is beautiful and poignant.

Ahhhh, the gloom and doom talk has already began at mjs. Hee!

      • leastofall

        eeesh!! begun!!!

    • et

Wow, that is one purty video! I could do without Pat who makes me think “untrimmed chest” but it wasn’t so bad having him stuck in there. Very nice, beautifully shot. And Kris looks great. I like.

    • smokyoasis

I’m not sure Cindy Vela is supposed to represent an actual woman. The way she’s filmed, she looks more like a remote feminine presence, like the spirit of the desert.

      It’s a beautiful video.

      • deez

Interesting thought…I kinda like that it’s open to interpretation. (per MJ’s commenter criticism…why does everything have to follow a storyline? THAT would be very uncreative. ) Art should mean different things to different people.

        • ross

People have been making videos without storylines since music videos were invented. I don’t think you should pay a lot of attention to what people say on MJ’s re Kris.

          • ross

            ^Understatement of the year.

    • Blue Eyes

Beautiful video. I like it a lot and the song has grown on me.

    • barado

After several views, I can say I’m happy with the video. I’m even okay with Pat’s bit (He does flail his arms about while singing, doesn’t he).

I just hope with Kris’ third single we don’t have to wait almost three months for the video again. That gets a bit annoying (and I’m not sure what the purpose is.)

      • alicat10025

The only purpose is that Jive delayed all decisions on this song – they took forever to even choose or release the lame radio edit, so of course the video wasn’t even started at that point…so really, blame the delay on Jive’s poor management of all of this.

      • deez

LOL…maybe for the Alright With Me video, they could do concert footage and he could pull Courtney Cox up on stage to sing with him!

        • ross

deez, you read my mind (in a way). I was thinking that Kris’ next video really has to be him performing on stage, or at least with his band. Just to show the “real” side of Kris, when he sings, and gets completely into the music, which, to me, is so awesome. And then for some reason the Springsteen video came to mind, as a prototype, or something.

Anyway, I think it would be cool if they did a really dynamic video of Kris in his onstage mode.

          • DeeDee

I agree Ross. The best Kris is the one you see performing with his band. I think these directors are trying to capitalize on his hotness, but showing him performing would do that best IMO.

          • deez

I was being silly (sort of) but it actually would be a great idea!

    • Mary

I first saw it on MJs and the video she posted was a little out of sync. Than I watched it on Youtube and I liked it alot! I would have preferred them breaking ALL the chandeliers at the end while he’s playing the guitar for a more dramatic effect but that would be too dangerous for him.

Personally, I don’t really give a crap for music videos. A song will be easily ruined for me if it is has a horrible video too it, so I really don’t care for them.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I haven’t watched it. I can just see this still shot and it looks like the yoddler from that game on The Price is Right. SERIOUSLY! I know its a mic but the play button is impeding the view.

      • Burgundy LaRue

Cliff Hanger? I love that game. Watching Hans fall to his death with Bob Barker giving commentary was great. Drew Carey likes to see Hans bite it, too. Good times.

      • Nich

        Ha! I can see that.

    • margie

I liked the video. It seems to have this feel of haunting elegance. Very classy.

    • saskin

      It is lovely.

    • MissMyEm

Brooklyn water used to be the best. The good old days…*sigh*

It sure was along with Brooklyn pizza and Brooklyn Chinese Food. *Sigh, Sigh and Sigh again.* I think that’s one of the things I miss most about NYC (my home town is Brooklyn). The food.

The video: I think it’s beautiful. I’m really enjoying everyone’s interpretation. I at first thought it was that Kris is Pat dreaming and Pat is the conscious side. But I think all of your interpretations make better sense. I think it’s a really interesting video and I’m hoping it goes over big. I don’t count any opinions from MJs, because they wouldn’t like anything Kris did even if the Pope were to bless him, so they only make themselves look bad. Whatever.

I like whoever said that the trunk represents Kris’ (or Pat’s) baggage that he was dragging around and the book that he is trying to close the book on the past.

It took me a time or two to start getting into the video, but the more I see the interpretations the more I can appreciate it. And whatever it is interpretively, it’s an esthetically beautiful video, I feel.

I don’t know that Kris had a say in what went down nor do I know if the label pays for the video or Kris himself does.

      • MissMyEm

the book that he is trying to close the book on the past.

        Let me rephrase that…

And the removal of the book represents trying to close the book on the past.

      • ross

I don’t know that Kris had a say in what went down

I’m pretty sure he has a big say. He’s the artist. He was talking the other day about helping to edit the video. I don’t think it’s a case of “you will do this or that.” Everyone assumes Adam has a big say in the concept of his videos, so I don’t think it would be different for Kris.

        • ross

Actually, I’m making a lot of assumptions. I don’t actually know.

          • ophelia64

This whole meme on MJs of the members of the KCDNRC (Kris Can Do Nothing Right Club) reminds me waaay to much of a sophomore English class I teach on short stories. They (MJs minions) are mooing about wanting a more literal story. “Where’s the elephant?” they ask. Why isn’t Kris in a house? He should get together with the swirly girl at the end. Yep, that would be oh so nicely tied up, wouldn’t it? The students write short reviews of the pieces after answering some (what I humbly find to be thought-provoking and amazingly brilliantly worded questions, thank you very much.) Many of them can’t stand any of the author’s who use symbolic motifs, who have unreliable narrators, who weave a subtle subplot into the story, who don’t finish the fucking thing because it’s more interesting to try to figure out what’s going on on your own. They don’t want to think about it, dig into it, make meaning from it. It helps your brain cells to fire synapsis; it mimics human existence, with no pat answers. They tell me they don’t like stories that have sad endings, use violence, or have endings that leave them hanging. I tell them they won’t like any of our stories then, not a single one, and they might as well get used to it or get out. Unless you are reading a fable, a morality lesson, a children’s story or a Romance novel, you are not gonna get an ending like that, not in a lit class. And Profs don’t do it just to be obtuse or to act superior or any personal reason at all. Life is messy, good literature is also messy, tackling hard stuff and not always coming up with answers to the hard stuff. This is a good video which makes we want to revisit to look for more stuff, what’s not to like about that — a little disjointed in spots, even slightly head-scratching (you know where I mean) but the kid does a pretty darn good job. Art, like life is often messy and confusing. Bravo Mr Allen.

          • On The Edge

ophelia64, great post. Hearing about your students makes me realize we are all doomed. The students you describe are a consequence of the “entitlement society” we have fostered for the last 50 years. “Do what you want, you don’t have to do what you don’t want to do, everyone deserves a happy ending, life’s too haaaaarrrrd, somebody come make it easier for meeeeeee…” They need to go on a mission trip and see REAL hard life where there aren’t happy endings (like Kris did…see what I did there? Full circle, people).

          • ross

What was the story of Duran Duran’s “Rio” video? How many years ago was that? Videos are hardly always neat little stories. They’re usually abstract, right? What was the storyline of the Live Like We’re Dying video? Guy drives into the desert and plugs in a humongous digital clock, and sings inside it? Does that usually happen in real life (even in California)? Do Adam’s videos have storylines? Who are these people who write this friggin’ nonsense??

            Did I ask enough questions?

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I think it’s time we chill on the analysis and watch the GREATEST MUSIC VIDEO OF ALL TIME. Heh heh.

I have this on a French & Saunders DVD. It kills me every time.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Brooklyn is fucked. When I move to NYC, if I can’t get some incredible deal in Manhattan (HA), I’m going to Queens. I love Queens. Astoria is Little Europe. Best food and drink and the greatest beauty salon on the planet (Gigi. Get waxed by the Croat from Pula. She goes home in the summers but she should be back soon. She is INCREDIBLE. And the price is unbelievable for a nice, full-service salon.), and it ain’t Brooklyn.

        • Lucky

Hey TI why all the Brooklyn hate? Not trying to start a turf war, just curious :)

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Nah, I don’t hate Brooklyn. I was just feisty and tipsy :)

    • rayni

I love the video – it is gorgeous as is Mr. Allen. Pat who??? :) I’m happy and not the least concerned.

And this is my first post – I wanted to see what kind of monster I got.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Welcome! Don’t see a monster, just a fluffy white kitten.

      • On The Edge

Ooh, keep the kitten! We love cats and kittens around here (as you can probably tell).

    • MissMyEm

But, I do think the mirror is there for a reason. Isn’t the payback when we later see a mirror smashing? The dude’s life is falling apart. Thankfully I have zilch desire to read MJs, so I don’t have a clue who Kirsten is, but I’ve heard her name mentioned in a positive way by many people. So thus saying…I like her interpretation of this part of the dream because it seems like a logical interpretation. I guess when I saw this part, I thought it would mean that he was turning away from looking at himself, meaning that he might not have wanted to see the truth at first.

However, I’m no expert at this.

  • carmine2008

I only drink iced tea. The sweetness hides the fact that the water is dirty. Hahaha.

  • On The Edge

Isn’t SmartWater/VitaminWater an Idol sponsor? Maybe that’s why it’s in the riders?

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

INTERESTING! But probably not entirely correct. Here is why:

Glaceau was recently bought out by Coca Cola, which is obviously one of the BIGGEST Idol sponsors. This is why you saw the judges drinking Vitamin Water during Hollywood Week.

Of course, you would think if they owned Smartwater, they would discontinue that nasty Dasani. And the rider calls for absolutely no Dasani. The Coke theory is entirely viable, but would definitely hold more weight if it specified the water supplied be SmartWater or Dasani.

  • Miz

LOL, the smart ad on the side bar is for Sparklett’s water cooler systems. I used to use their competition’s … Arrowhead Mt. Spring Water. Their cooler bottles were glass. Then I switched to an in-home reverse osmosis filtration system. That was good until I found out that it took 4 gallons of tap to make one gallon of distilled. Water is expensive in CA.

Delicate flower that I am, my doc finally dictated ‘distilled water only’.

It’s nice to see we’re in such good company with Kris by being fussy about our water. Reading his rider, it seems water may be the only thing that is for him. I can’t imagine he put in ‘full length mirror’ of ‘private shower’. Not the man who wants his super power to me ‘not to need showers.’

  • Paulie

We used to drink tap water until my mom suspected she got real sick one time because of it. So we’re now buying/refilling the watercooler-type gallons from our friendly neighborhood water distilling store (~$2 per 5 gal.). Which also uses our tap water but with the dandy filtering process. Heh.

That said, distilled water for me. I like my water bland.

  • rehabilitard

Filtered tap is the best. All this bottled crap comes in plastic that is bad for you and enviroment.

    • auntieaimee

      Agreed.

      • Burgundy LaRue

Yeah, I prefer a Brita pitcher with the filters. The water tastes good to me.

    • alicat10025

We have a Pur filter on our kitchen sink tap and use that for drinking water.

      • Burgundy LaRue

I should look into one of those. Do you have to take the filter off the tap if you want to use regular water–for washing dishes, as an example?

        • On The Edge

I used to have one, Burg, and no you don’t have to. The Pur filter has a separate spigot that drinking water comes out of. You turn the Pur filter off and regular water comes out of the normal tap.

  • deez

Our tap water is disgusting…it even has a distinct smell it in the summertime. We have a filter in the fridge dispenser for drinking, and on the kitchen tap for cooking. I generally don’t bother with bottled b/c I’ve always understood that you’re pretty much just buying somebody else’s filtered water. Every now and then, we get a warning in the mail that our water tested over the limit for some sort of contaminant. I’m waiting for the Julia Roberts movie.

    • Lauren

That sounds kinda scary. :/ *cough* check your email

      • deez

        I got back to ya’ :) !

  • snapcracklypop

Water is important, and especially for singers I would think. I only get Smart Water if I’m at a Starbucks because they only sell that brand. If I splurge if I’m at a store, I would choose Fiji or Volvic.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Jana. I buy Jana when I see it because its good and its Croatian :)

      • snapcracklypop

Hm, I don’t know it. Maybe next time I’ll give it try. Wait, I don’t get the part about Jana being Croatian. Why is that a good thing?

        • kimberly

          Because Goran Visnjic approves? ::grin::

And I approve of Kris’ video. Visually appealing — gorgeous and classy. Of course, it’s all deja vu, just change LLWD negativity and insert The Truth. The song is not groundbreaking nor is the video, but it’s all good, really, really good. People will connect to this song emotionally and that’s really what it’s all about, what it’s always been about for any artist. The timing of the video is perfect. The song is going to do well through the fall and winter months. Just a feeling.

          • Burgundy LaRue

I mentioned something similiar over at MJ’s, kimberly. Would have I have chosen The Truth as a second single? Probably not. I like the song, but wouldn’t have seen it as single material. However, with summer basically being over with kids going back to school, we’re now in fall mode. The Truth is already #18 on the charts. So if the video helps, it could go Top 10 pretty quickly. Let’s give Jive a bit of leeway. Maybe someone over there actually knows what they’re doing.

          • On The Edge

Exactly what I was thinking. Why are they still calling it a “summer” song? Around here school has already started and football is less than three weeks away (Now that’s something to “squee” about). It may be in the 90′s temp-wise, but for the South this IS fall!

          • margie

The Truth is so not a summer song. I see it doing well as the season changes.

Yup Football season is soon!! A female reporter already got fired for wearing a Gator’s hat to a Hog Press conference and tweeting/facebooking on the job. It’s serious business.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Help me out here, because I was wondering this at the bar tonight. Do they allow female sportscasters to be non-blond? There was an Asian here once, her name was Hazel Mae. But that doesn’t count, not b/c she is Asian, but b/c of…you know…targeting male audience. Anyway…Where are the black and non-blond white women talking about sports on my TV?

          • On The Edge

I was going to say a bunch doing sideline work for college football, but I think even Pam Ward may have some blonde highlights (yes, I searched). There was a black female sideline reporter last year I’m sure of it, and a brunette working for CBS (I remember because it was the Ole Miss-LSU game where Les Miles fucked up and let the clock run out).

In other words…yes you need a bleach job and orange spray tan to work at ESPN. Ask Kirk Herbstreit.

          • margie

Rachel Nichols is a red head I believe. It does seem though most are blonde headed though.

  • Miz

    I’ll only drink distilled water.

  • J

Dasani I don’t mind but Aquafina I can’t stand. To me it has a strange after taste. I keep a brita filter pitcher in my fridge, hardly ever buy or drink bottled water. Best water I ever had came from a small stream in Maine. We used to spend a month in a cottage up there every Summer. I think the stream was spring fed. I’m not sure how to describe it. The water was so cold and pure it was almost sweet tasting.

  • Lauren

You know Smartwater is also one of Adam’s requests. xD Just one more reason they are perfect for each other.

    • snapcracklypop

      LOL

    • Mary

Hahahaha Lauren you crack me up! You will not rest until Adam and Kris are together eh?

      • Lauren

Haha, I used to try to make everything into a Kradam reference. I’ve toned it down a lot recently. But they do deserve each other!

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

          STOP IT NOW.

          • Lauren

You spoil all my fun! You have to admit, up to right now, I have been so much better.

  • vtu

I don’t actually hate the taste of Aquafina and Dasani, but I’m offended by the fact that they’re basically purified tap water masquerading as “special.” Brand name bottled water used to be about paying more for something better than tap water. Why would I pay that kind of money for tap? Ugh!

Rant over. Fortunately, I like Boston tap, so I don’t feel the need to buy bottled water very often–except during unexpected catastrophic watermain breaks, but how often does that happen…? :)

  • Mary

I love when TopIdol is so random! :)

Dasani tastes like tap water to me for some reason, so I hate it. But I like Aquafina though. Ignorant me didn’t know that Aquafina and Dasani are owned by Coke and Pepsi. The little things you learn from this blog…

I remember I watched this segment on Nightline where they showed this hotel in London that charged about $30-60 on a bottle of water from some private spring in Costa Rica or something but they had factories right outside London that made that crap haha.

Degrassi: The Boiling Point was good the first week but than their storylines got boring. The transgender storyline looks interesting because its different. And I want to kill Holly J and Declan and that Indian chick who’s name I can’t remember.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

      Desi Manny?

I always forget her name, too. Even though she bugs the crap out of me.

  • et

LOL, I love random posts. I like tap water. I need the flouride :) Of course when I lived in a fairly rural part of MD backing up to a farm and with well water, I did not drink tap water. Because it was disgusting. So then I just got cheap ass drinking water from the grocery store… which is pretty much… tap water.

  • ross

I hardly drink anything other than water. Usually Poland Spring water. I noticed Kris was drinking it during the Kiss concert in Boston. Once in a while I drink Smart Water but I don’t like stuff added to water, especially.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Poland Spring is from around here, so it’s pretty much EVERYWHERE. It’s good bottled water. They also make vodka.

      • et

Why did my ears perk up at the word “vodka”? Should I be alarmed by that? I don’t remember the last time I had vodka. I had two beers at Cook’s 2nd show, and one beer at the Redskins game since I was the driver. Now I am awfully intrigued by the notion of vodka…

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

          It’s CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP.

          Poland Spring Vodka

          They also make gin.

          • et

Does it taste better than Kamchatka? :)

Damn. I’m really stressed out, taking a break from my doggie rescue stuff which is good but a bummer (burned out!), and that… that looks tasty. Hmm. I think I need to pawn my kids off on my husband and drag my sister out for a girls’ night out. We have way too much fun together.

          • ross

            They make vodka?? Hahaha!

I don’t like vodka. I like Bombay Sapphire gin.

Another good water is Calistoga if you’re in Northern Cal.

          • ross

When I said I hardly drink anything other than water I forgot about martinis, I giess.

          • magnacarta

Kamchatka? That’s an awesome name for vodka! I will have to smuggle a bottle from States next time. I don’t even care if it tastes like socks. I NEED this.
