Oh yeah! Keep your fingers crossed for lots of crowd shots tonight! (All this, and MAD MEN too?)  Jimmy Fallon  hosts the 62nd Emmy Awards starting this evening at the  NOKIA Theatre  in L.A. Check out NBC @ 5-8 pm PT, 8-11 pm ET. (I got that info off the Emmy website…I guess those of us  in flyover country get to do our own timezone math :) ) I like Jimmy Fallon. He does a helluva Neil Young impersonation.

Hmmmm…Lead Actor? I’m torn here. Who should win? Alec Baldwin, of course. BUT…As much as I love Jim Parsons, and as much as Larry David is no slouch, and Steve Carell may be a sentimental pick, and ALEC BALDWIN is the best thing on the funniest TV comedy ever (!!!1111!!!!)… that Matthew Morrison Glee dude will probably win. Glee will probably need a shopping cart to accommodate its statuette haul. Why? People seem to love this show. I watched it a couple of times…Jane Lynch doesn’t like the Glee Club.  The kids face some kind of challenge. The kids sing.  Whatever. *sigh*

I’m gonna TRY to keep up with the show. I said “try”…this will probably go down in the Hall of FAIL, as “Mad Men”  is going to divert my attention at some point. Hey, I have good intentions!!

If you want to check out the  complete list of nominees, take a look : http://www.emmys.com/nominations I HOPE “Modern Family” gets some love, come discuss the live broadcast tonight! ( @6 or 7 pm, if you can’t see an ocean ;) )

Okay. As soon as Jon Hamm, Tina Fey, Betty White, and Jimmy Fallon (with an awesome save from Tim Gunn) join the cast of Glee …I’m THERE!!!!!! That was pretty awesome and I’m generally not a fan of that kind of crap! First up COMEDY (Supporting Actor), and the winner is US! Jon Hamm and Betty White are presenting!!! Eleventy!! YESSSSSSS!!!!!!! ERIC STONESTREET!!!! Now  Modern Family goes  2 for 2! (have I underestimated the support for this awesome show?) Ehhh.. Jane Lynch with the Supporting Actress win. Even thoughI don’t care for Glee, Jane Lynch is funny, and Sofia Vergara gets out of running naked down Hollywood Blvd! (sorry!)

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series goes to JIM PARSONS!!! What’s wrong here? 40 min in and I’m not hating it. Edie Falco wins for Actress in a comedy series(?) Is Nurse Jackie a comedy? Reality series goes to “Top Chef”. (sorry Snooks) Porky is obviously not a fan of comedy. She slept through the first hour of the show, but is now sitting alertly in front of the TV. Maybe I should’ve gotten her picks (like Paul the Octopus) for the next category.( This is a tough one. Too many great shows.) The Emmy for writing goes to Matt Weiner and MAD MEN (which comes on tonight at 10 pm E!!!) Supporting Actor Emmy goes to Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad , which I’ve heard is a great show. (never watched it at all, perhaps this is a series I need to rent and catch up on??) Thoughts? That’s how I got hooked on Mad Men. ( I will be taking a short break when Mad Men airs, but will return to update the post with the winners for anyone who missed the show) Supporting Actress goes to Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife) Lead Actor in a Drama winner is Bryan Cranston! Okay, I love Bryan..but I’ve gotta admit, Jon Hamm??? Michael C. Hall?? awwwwww.

Directing in a Drama Series goes to Steve Shill for Dexter!! (if anyone missed last season of Dexter, RENT IT NOW!!!) Lead Actress in a Drama Series goes to Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer. This is one category I’m not upset about a Mad Men loss. ( Awwww, a teary-eyed Kevin Bacon.)  The 63rd Annual Tony Awards wins the Emmy for Writing for a Variety Series/Special. I love you Ricky Gervais!!( Mel Gibson has been through a lot. LOL.) Bucky Gunts wins for Variety/Special directing for The Olympics. Outstanding Variety Series/Special goes to  The(much-deserving) Daily Show!!!!!

MAD MEN (of course) :) wins for Outstanding Drama Series! Outstanding Reality Series winner is ” Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution”, Oustanding Reality host goes to Jeff Probst. The National Parks: America’s Best Idea brings home the award for outstanding non-fiction series, while Disney Prep& Landing and Wiards of Waverly Place take the honors for Animation and Children’s Program.

Outstanding miniseries was The Pacific (no big surprise, although not nearly as good as Band of Brothers which I’ve seen eleventy times) The Outstanding TV Movie was “Temple Grandin”. Al Pacino won for Outstanding Male Lead in a Movie or Miniseries (You Don’t Know Jack), while Claire Daines won the Actress award for the aforementioned “Temple Grandin.” Best Supporting Actor and Actress in that category were David Strathairn, and Julia Ormond for, once again, “Temple Grandin”. Adam Mazer won this category’s emmy for writing for ” You Don’t Know Jack”, and Mick Jackson won for directing “Temple Grandin”.

The Colbert Report (Iraq) wins for Outstanding writing for a Comedy/Music/variety series, while  the award for Direction in this category was won by Don Roy King for SNL (with BETTY WHITE!)Outstanding Variety Show/Special went to ”The Kennedy Center Honors”

Awards were also previously given out for guest actors and actresses. Betty White and Ann Margret won for their appearances on SNL and Law&Order SVU. John Lithgow (at his scenery chewing best) and Neil Patrick Harris won for “Dexter” and “Glee.”

I hope I haven’t missed anything! (let me know!!)  Much respect to you TI, keeping on top of this was more difficult than I imagined!!

Spread the word. Do it.

Jon Hamm was robbed of an Emmy! The end!

  • http://theepezdispenser.blogspot.com/ ePastorJames

These were the best Emmy winners we’ve had in quite some years!

Eric Stonestreet vs. Ty Burrell = bound to be pleased either way. Apparently, Burrell chose to submit the wrong episode, while Stonestreet chose the clown episode, which was a great showcase for the Cam/Mitchell relationship. Hopefully, Burrell wins next year. The more important victory: THEY BEAT JON CRYER.

Speaking of which, Jim Parsons is talented and I’m thrilled he triumphed over Matthew Morrison (gag). But TBBT is fast approaching typical CBS sitcom irritation territory–nowhere near as sucky as TAAHM or ROE (vomit), but still bleah. HIMYM and TNAOOC still rule all. And no, I will not type out these acronyms, bitches.

Jane Lynch is love. Edie Falco is love. Short-haired butch women in comedy are love ♥. Modern Family winning was such a delight.

I am ECSTATIC for Kyra Sedgwick. She’s such a brilliant character actress and so overdue–I figured that she was the male Hugh Laurie, in that she’d never win. But she chose a complex episode and I was stunned. Amazing. She and Kevin Bacon are the best couple in Hollywood, and she’s been nominated FIVE TIMES. She should’ve beaten that frozen-face hag from Medium back in 2006, but shit happens.

Even more incredible: AARON PAUL! Y’all need to watch Breaking Bad, because I think it’ll absorb you instantly and within no time, you’ll be riveted. Paul shoulda won for last season’s finale, but this entire season, he blew my mind. Incredible. I was kinda shaking, actually, ’cause I had resigned myself to the horrifying concept of that bloated cheesefest Lost winning everything. But nope. Huzzah! My prediction/wish prevailed. Awesomeness.

Although I wanted Hall to finally win, I cannot argue with Cranston; he’s terrific. And I was pulling for either Moss and/or Hendricks, but I loved Panjabi: she took a stock supporting character and added 17 new layers. She’s outstanding. I blame MM’s uneven season 3, and hope that with season 4 having less rabid focus on Betty, we’ll continue to see stronger storylines for Peggy and Joan.

Lastly, of all of the main 10 awards, MM winning was perhaps the most disappointing, because of the inconsistency in writing. Breaking Bad and/or Dexter should’ve won, especially BB for what was easily the best series in television on ANY medium, including all reality of course. Speaking of retarded reality TV, HALLELUJAH!

    • http://theepezdispenser.blogspot.com/ ePastorJames

*Hallelujah! (Heh)…Something beat that insipid crock of shit The Amazing Race at last. Top Chef was boring in season 6, but had a great winner in Michael, characters in Jennifer and Ash, and tasty-looking food. Season 7 is more enjoyable, but whatever, it beat TAR. It’s a rare Emmy miracle…x4 tonight (Sedgwick, Paul, Stonestreet)!

As for all the Gleeks and Losttards who will rag, get over it. Pop cultural phenoms =/= great television series. They won what they deserved to; the end.

      • On The Edge

I’m not stressed over it…”Lost” got pity-based, last-chance nominations, and “Glee” should have been nominated for variety/music categories (it’s a comedy, a drama AND a musical, i.e. VARIETY).

    • DeeDee

Aaron Paul is phenomenal in Breaking Bad. He blew me away this past season with his heartbreaking performance. Deez, you should definitely give this show a try. It’s unbelievable.

      • auntieaimee

I agree. Breaking Bad had me on the edge of my seat consistently this season. It’s really intense. Not everyone will like it because it is so dark, but it’s worth seeing. This is why Aaron Paul won his Emmy:

        • auntieaimee

Rats. The embed didn’t work. Here’s the scene:

          • DeeDee

The first two seasons the show had a lot of dark humor in it. It made me actually laugh out loud at times. this last season however was extremely intense.

          • deez

OK, I’m sold. Wait…When does DEXTER premiere? Ehhhh….I can do both. (I hope the crappy video store by my house has it)

  • FreeDavidCook

WOOHOO! “Mad Men” wins best drama!

  • deez

I shall away now to Mad Men…. I will update winners later!

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

      I love you, Deez!

And if anyone wants to send me letter of hate, or nice things, or are just bored. You can actually DO this:

      Melinda
      Automatic Subconscious
      4:00 & Esplanade
      Black Rock City, NV 89412

Or…there is something called a Playagram. Not sure what it all entails.

      http://brcpo2oh.weebly.com/e-mail-playagrams.html

I am now checking to see if the Sands Regency has AMC. Oh, last night, I woke up to some crazy girl causing a scene in the hallway b/c her boyfriend/husband had another woman in there. Then she was banging on the window at the end of the hall (We’re on the 9th floor, I probably should add…)

  • jukejoint

Do you think TI will forgive Jimmy Fallon for opening with The Show Where Some Kids Sing and co-opting Jon Hamm into their production number? And also the guy from Community and Hurley and Tina Fey.

Jon Hamm is like the perfect man. He went with it. They put him in a [show where some kids sing] costume and HE WENT WITH IT. Love.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

WHY AM I STILL IN RENO??

Sitting in nasty hotel room trying desperately to get a ride onto the playa. I have failed my camp and my blog. The girls I’m with say I can blame them. Oh indeed, I will. I will. We’re also waiting for our friend to learn how to ride a unicycle he just bought.

      • jukejoint

Uh oh. Sorry you are still in Reno. But maybe you got to see the TV for the first five minutes of the Emmy show with all its Jon Hamm and Betty White goodness. And the rotund one from Modern Family won and he’s so adorable. I’ve only seen one episode of that show, but he was dressed in a Lion King outfit and doing the Circle of Life for their adopted child. Adorable!

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I missed Jon Hamm serenading Betty White with Springsteen. Although I heard it was some Glee bullshit. Jon Hamm + Bruce Springsteen + Betty White, well, there are NO words.

          • jukejoint

Jon Hamm was kind of dirty dancing with Betty White, and then got sucked into the Glee production number, where he was dressed in the same costume as all of the Glee children (along with Joel McHale and Tina Fey) all dancing and singing and whatnot. I give him all the credit in the world for not phoning it in or caring that he looked like a doofus. Before the stupid Glee costume, he was in a white t-shirt and he sang a line of Born to Run, so… Hotter than the surface of the sun right there. I am not kidding.

Meanwhile, Jim Parsons just won for Big Bang Theory, which I’ve never seen. But there was Steve Carell, one of my TV boyfriends, looking sad in the audience, like “They finally didn’t give it to Alec Baldwin or Tony Shalhoub so they toss it on over to JIM PARSONS my last possible year to win? F*ck me!” I would totally give it to you, Steve Carell. Unless Jon Stewart was also nominated, in which case my heart would break having to decide so I would just call it a tie.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I watched The Big Bang Theory ONCE. I thought it was so stupid. So ridiculously stupid.

          • deez

I’m just gonna update the post with major categories (skipping the ones that most people won’t recognize names…is that good TI??

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

You need to educate people, dammit! Educate people!

          • et

*Sniff*, the things I’m missing while my children watch Discovery Channel with my husband. *SNIFF*

          • deez

Gaaaah! It’s going too fast! Should I ixnay the personal commentary???? I think I’m sucking at this! It reminds me of the time I tried to keep the scorebook at a softball tourney! It was half -filled in because I’d get distracted andcouldn’t keep up!!!!!! Aaaaaack!!!!!!!!11!!

          • Pandora

I was trying to figure out why the hell Springsteen gave them permission to use any of his songs, let alone “Born To Run,” and I still haven’t come up with a good-enough reason. Except that maybe his kids really like Glee?

  • FreeDavidCook

Looking for a “Mad Men” win and lots of Jon Hamm lurve tonight…

  • On The Edge

Uh boy…count me as one of those who likes “the show that shall not be named,” though I’m not a Sue Sylvester fan. Personally my favorite character is not nominated, and that is Brittany. The best one-liners come out of that girl’s mouth:

Did you know dolphins are just gay sharks?

I think my cat has been reading my diary…

It’s not just the lines, but the delivery…she’s just so damn earnest. I watched it one night when “Lost” skipped a week, then caught up on episodes all summer after “Lost” went off the air. I think 6 years of looking up literary, philosophical and physics references was enough for me. I needed to replace it with something goofy and mindless (plus I was already watching “Fringe”).

I’m encouraged by the seating arrangement noted above…winners are normally seated on the aisle or on the front row, so I’m liking Jon Hamm’s chances tonight! Though a little part of me wouldnt be disappointed if Coach Taylor, um, I mean Kyle Chandler won.

  • Paulie

I’m crossing my fingers for Jim Parsons and Modern Family to win it. :D And I know peeps here love their Mad Men but I’m also hoping Hugh Laurie gets his waaay overdue Emmy. *ducks*

Why is Juliana Marguiles getting so much buzz to win Lead Actress in drama? Is “The Good Wife” that good? I really didn’t like her much in The Practice and especially that Ghost Ship movie. Oh well. I guess I have to check it out.

    • deez

I would have NO PROBLEM with Jim Parsons winning! (I just think Alec Baldwin is consistently brilliant) His Sheldon character is hilarious, and the rest of the cast is wonderful as well. I’ve never seen one episode of “The Good Wife”. I’m sure Juliana Margulies is fine in it. I have Lawyer/Cop-type Drama fatigue.

    • rehabilitard

Yes, “The Good Wife” is really good. Check it out :)

      • jukejoint

I remember hearing that somebody I like is guest starring on that show, but I can’t remember who.

  • et

Hmm, guess I only get to watch an hour of it because my son saw a commercial on the Discovery Channel for a Brand!New!Dinosaur!Show! that’s on at 9 and I think he’d spontaneously combust if I made him miss it. I don’t know why I watch these things because I hardly ever get to watch TV that isn’t animated but I like seeing what people are wearing. I’m weird like that.

  • Daf

OMG, Deez, TI NEVER uses the word “Glee” in her blog. It’s “the show where a bunch of high school kids sing” or something like that. I think it’s an OK show, but why everyone makes such a big deal out of it is beyond me. I could take it or leave it.

Anyway, I really have to disagree with you on the Alec Baldwin thing. I’ve never so much have gotten a chuckle from “30 Rock”, not one, and I’ve given it chance after chance. I just watch it and wonder if they are trying to be funny or what, and have asked “who in the hell writes this crap?”. Tina Fey also drives me insane. “The Office” to me is a guaranteed laugh, as is “Big Bang Theory”, so I’m hoping Jim Parsons or Steve Carrell might win.

I’ve only seen one episode of “Mad Men”, but John Hamm is pretty hot so I hope he wins. It would be nice to see Eric Stonestreet win for playing Cameron in “Modern Family”, and I think we all know that Jane Lynch will probably win for best supporting actress. I don’t really like her character in that show where a bunch of high school kids sing, but I guess everyone else does. I really don’t get why Rainn Wilson as Dwight Shrute didn’t get nominated, he, to me, is one of the funniest characters to ever be on TV. He plays it so well and has given me more laughs than I can count.

I don’t usually watch the Emmy Awards, but I just might tonight.

    • deez

      My favorite Dwight quote ever:

The eyes are the groin of the head.

I used to LOVE The Office!! IDK I the whole Jim and Pam getting married thing was a shark-jumping moment for me. It’s still a good show, though. “30 Rock” doesn’t appeal to everyone, I know as many people who hate it as love it. I also love Jim Parsons and BBT (whoops! I guess I can allow acronyms while TI’s gone?)

      • Daf

Yeah, I guess I know what you mean with the Jim and Pam thing. I wish they’d just give Dwight his own show. Dolphins get a lot of good publicity for the drowning swimmers they push back to shore, but what you don’t hear about is the many people they push farther out to sea! Dolphins aren’t smart. They just like pushing things. Only Dwight could say something like that.

    • jukejoint

I came to The Office a bit late, so I don’t have the fatigue and Jim-and-Pam-jump-the-shark thing a lot of people do. I want Steve Carell to win because it’s his last shot for The Office and I heart him. True story: We went to Second City in the 90s and saw a show with Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert and Amy Sedaris IN THE SAME CAST. Oh so very good. Amy Sedaris and Steve Carell were just amazing. I wonder if Paul Dinello (also in that cast and in Strangers with Candy with Amy and Stephen) is sad that his friends are all higher on the food chain now.

Another time at Second City we saw the actor who plays Kenneth the NBC Page, and while I do enjoy 30 Rock okay, I am ready for Alec Baldwin to not win. But the Emmys are nothing if not predictable. I mean, John Laroquette and whatsername who was Carla on Cheers winning like six or eight in a row??? Jason Alexander never winning for Seinfeld? They get into these ruts they never get out of, which means Alec Baldwin will always be ahead of everybody else in line, with Tony Shalhoub right behind him. I expect one of those two to win, even though I totally want Steve Carell.

Or maybe enough members of the TV academy have died and some newbies can sneak through. I hope so!

I would love Jon Hamm to win, but I love Hugh Laurie, too. Michael C. Hall just battled cancer and Bryan Cranston is beloved by the voters, so… Don’t count on Hamm or Laurie, even though they would win in my book. Hugh Laurie had a really good year, too, with asylum episodes. I think Amy Poehler deserves it for Parks & Rec but it will probably go to Toni Collette again. If not Toni, then Tina or the girl from the show where the kids sing. She’s my least favorite person on that show.

In supporting actor in a drama, I want John Slattery really bad. I met him on the street outside Laughter on the 23rd Floor when everybody was waiting for Nathan Lane’s autograph. Slattery was a total sweetheart. Mostly I love Roger, though, and I think he is SO good at that character. But Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson ruled on Lost, too, so I won’t be disappointed if one of them takes it.

Anybody except Jon Cryer is acceptable in the Supporting Actor/Comedy category, so watch him walk away with it. Noooooooo! And I might go for Sofia Vergara in the Supporting Actress/Comedy race.

      • deez

I saw Sofia Vergara on “Ellen” and she was hilarious, I loved her out of character too!
Why is 2 1/2 Men still on TV?

We went to Second City in the 90s and saw a show with Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert and Amy Sedaris IN THE SAME CAST.

        ^^Sooooooooo jealous!

        Classic Jim & Dwight:

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Sofia Veraga is a Scientologist. I still have trouble getting past this with Elisabeth Moss…sigh…

          • jukejoint

Noooooooooooooo!! Elisabeth Moss *and* Sofia Vergara? How can people who seem so sane believe in magic clams running the universe??

          • deez

Ewwwwwwww, why must people I like insist on being creepy Scientologists? I’m disillusioned now, and this Red Carpet Show sucks. Kate Gosselin just made January Jones seem like a Rocket Scientist. Tina Fey looked gorgeous (if she’s a Scientologist, I will cut myself)

          • jukejoint

If Tina Fey is a Scientologist, the human race is doomed. DOOMED, I tell you.

I don’t know which Red Carpet show you’re watching, but OMG, it is like Dumb and Dumber with Ryan Seacrest hosting one of them and freakin Billy Bush hosting the other one.

January Jones looks like a mess and Billy Bush just put her on the Worst Dressed list. Her hair is the worst. Like, she doesn’t own a comb? And she’s dating Jason Sudeikis from SNL, who seems smart and funny and like a regular human being. Now I’ve really depressed myself.

          • justpeachy

            Magic clams?
