Caption this if you can think of the words

2010 August 18
by TopIdol

Bo Bice, David Hasselhoff and Taylor Hicks (among several others) went down to Mississippi to perform a special tribute show this week. The Gulf is Back — airing on the CW on August 27 — aims to show the country that it’s okay to travel to Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, as the recent oil spill disaster has done nothing to frak up the natural beauty and all that other good stuff.

This photo is kind of special. It also makes me wonder if The Hoff told Taylor Hicks, remember the time I watched you win Idol and I cried tears of happiness? And Tay Tay is all like, you drink too much, man. Whoo-eeee.

Spread the word. Do it.

I finally thought of a caption.

Boys, now that I’ve got you, I have to tell you that I need a new liver. Who wants to volunteer first?

  • wino

i had the pleasure of seeing the Hoff stumble out of my office elevator today. looking hopeless and lost, per usual.

perhaps the caption should read “Coming Soon: Afghan Tour 2011″….this should force the troops to come back home quicker.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

      AND NO PHOTO?? NO PHOTO?

      • wino

ha, i was a bit speechless. it was so random, i didnt know how to react. there arent that many tenants on my floor….a couple of lawyers. if he comes back, i’ll get my act together and grab a shot w. phone.

  • J

Bo, You take his right side and I’ll take his left. We just have to hold him up for a few photos and then we can leave him in a drunken heap on the floor.

I love Bo. I’m not a big fan of country music but that video and song are pretty good. I prefer him in the Southern rock genre. In a Dream and Whipping Post are two of my all time favorite idol performances.

  • OvenMitt

    Bo: “What…”

    Hoff: “the…”

    Taylor: “fuck?!”

    • OvenMitt

I’d also like to mention that Bo was one of the only legit contestants ever to grace the Idol stage, and it’s a damn shame that 19/Sony musically castrated him like they did. As if they care while they happily count the profits that Carrie Underpants is bringing in for them.

      • et

I love Cook as you may well know but when the judges went on and on about him being the most original boldest blah blah I was like HEY, now, what about BO? That dude went out there and performed “In a Dream” a capella and that was insanely bold. And amazing. (Now, I do think that Cook was pretty ballsy and played the game extremely well, but even as a Cook fan I was still affronted for Bo, and really Blake who I didn’t even like all that much, lol).

  • barado

You’re probably right. I remember being shocked when they announced the winner that year, but I moved on about 20 minutes later. I didn’t even know about his health problems until about a year ago. But, he was married already during his season, wasn’t he? That seems to keep away some of the crazies, too.

    • et

Yeah, the married-ness probably makes a big difference. I am sure they get some nuts (I somehow via Cook’s Twitter feed stumbled into a nest of really nutburger Daughtry fans) but maybe it at least chills out some of the most stalkerish types.

  • Lucky

Best line to ever come out of American Idol auditions: Judges – “why do you want to be the next American Idol”? Chris Sligh – “I want to make David Hasselhoff cry”.

    • Blue Eyes

I always liked Chris Sligh. Snarky SOB.

    • et

Haha, did he say that? I need to watch that. I didn’t watch the auditions that year. That is hilarious.

    • Miz

Chris Sligh is an ass, but he’s a funny ass. I rooted for him while he was on the show. His superiority complex and looking like Mark Volman were perfect for Simon to cast his disdain on.

  • jukejoint

Bo looks less like the Beast from the TV “Beauty and the Beast” with his hair cut. The Hoff looks like the Hoff. Taylor Hicks… Always struck me as a humorless, very, very, very ambitious has-been. Like he was a has-been before he was ever a been. I don’t know. There’s just something about him I don’t like. But I can say that whatever that is, Adam L. has it, too. I have a relative in her 90s who loves both of them with the passion only a great-grandmother can find in her soul. It manifests in the same way for the two of them, too. She gets this kind of wide-eyed awe when she talks about them, she’s very defensive on their behalf, and she willfully ignores any evidence which doesn’t fit her “nice young man” view of them. Taylor writhing on the floor? Oh, he just did that because Simon egged him on. Adam on the AMAs? That wasn’t really him and he won’t do that again because he got out of hand but now he knows better. In other words, she has no clue who they really are, but she loves her image of them beyond belief and she will not be convinced otherwise. Those two and “The Bridges of Madison County” are the loves of her life.

She has no idea that Bo, the Hoff, Carrie, Kelly, Daughtry, Cook, Kris Allen or anybody else from those seasons even exists. She only has eyes for Taylor and Adam and the Bridges of Madison County.

    • Blue Eyes

Please tell me she lives in a senior citizen home.

    • MissMyEm

Taylor writhing on the floor? Oh, he just did that because Simon egged him on.

Per Taylor, egged on by Lythgoe and the Producers, not Simon. Taylor is 180 degrees different in concert. I’ve seen him twice (my friend loves him) and while I like his voice, I found him to be somewhat boring in concert. He just sings and doesn’t do much kibbitzing with the audience like others do to make the concert fun and never does any of the idiotic things he did on Idol. However, I did see him in Grease when he toured, and he was the only thing that made the very poorly cast show enjoyable.

      • Blue Eyes

Have you seen his audience? Poor guy! That has got to be depressing.

        • MissMyEm

Not lately. But I do know that he’s playing at the same club in SD that Kris played at and whereas Kris sold out in three hours more or less…Taylor’s tickets for all seats are still available. But you know…he seems happy. I think perhaps some singers who come off Idol don’t necessarily want Rolling Stone like fame. I think some just want to be able to work. So if that’s the case, both Bo and Taylor are doing fine.

  • MissMyEm

I think Hasselhoff just needed Bo and Taylor to hold him up.

    • barado

David Hasselhoff should be almost as old as Bo and Taylor put together, no? And, is he still big in Germany?

      • jukejoint

        Bo Bice (34) + Taylor Hicks (33) > David Hasselhoff (58)

Don’t know if the Hoff is still big in Germany, but MTV took him to Berlin just last year, so… A definite maybe.

  • cc

How about… “The Return of the Prodigal Son”
(Bo as the prodigal, The Hoff as Dad and Taylor as the other son)

  • ross

    They look very lifelike.

  • Blue Eyes

hmmmm, what can I say. Bo Bice got Bo Biced. I will always like him over Carrie Underwood robot. Don’t care how successful she is.

Taylor Hicks?? Don’t know what to make of him. Why he chose the lounge act instead of coolness is beyond me. His batshit crazy stalker fans of grannies and mean bullies turned off many fans. Hard to believe I was once one of his tards.

David Hasselhoff?!? He’s just pure LOVE! The end.

    • et

My older brother actually looks quite a bit like the Hoff. He’s probably as nuts as the Hoff, too :)

  • et

“No, boys, like THIS – see? Plastic smile, and unbutton your shirt more. See the Hoff, be the Hoff.”

    Or something.

Aw, but I love Bo Bice. Unhand my Bo Bice, you Hoffmonster, you!

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I’ve always liked Bo a lot, too!

      • auntieaimee

I like Bo, too. He seems like a well mannered, gentlemanly sort of guy.

        • dixiegal88

Bo is one of the good guys that got screwed over by RCA. Kris isn’t the only one with a video out today online. Bo went the country route with his latest CD and his video premiered today

          • et

            I like that – I like Southern/country Bo. He’s a cool dude.

          • muzikizmi

Wow, I mostly hate country, but I L.O.V.E. that song. Bo done good. I hope this one takes off for him. The guy can saaang.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

You did not use SANG in such a way!

Isn’t that on my unofficial list of rules? Up there with bulge talk and stuff? Hmmm…if not, I’m adding it! :)

          • parsenip

I think I may have to download that. It’s not really my thing, but Bo has such a good voice. I hope country embraces him.

    • barado

What was it about Bo that he didn’t attract his own crazy brand of fans, like the Claymates or Soul Patrol? (or did he, but I wasn’t paying attention?) He’s a good looking guy and had some great performances on Idol.

      • et

Didn’t he vanish after Idol with all his stomach ailments? I thought I remember him just *poof* gone – it was like a year before he resurfaced. Maybe his crazies moved on to the next unfortunate soul…

        • thin mint

Bo did have his share of loons and stalkers, but Constantine grabbed the “I’m edgy and misunderstood, too!” crowd that year. Then right after Idol Bo got married, had a baby, and made it clear he wasn’t going to be humping any fans. That shook off a lot of the nuts.

      • jukejoint

        1. Married.
        2. Did not beg for votes or wear costumes or get silly in any way.
        3. Seemed like a strong person in his own right and as if he would do just fine without the help of strong grannies to help him against the bullies of the world.

        • barado

Now that’s analysis! At least I got one of them on my own in my errant comment above.

        • Blue Eyes

Bo seemed like he was more into the music than the silliness. Have you noticed the OTT fanbases like the Claymates, Glamberts and Soul Patrol that their Idol is just as silly and OTT as they are? Seems like they initiate that kind of behavior.

          • et

Yeah, I can’t see Bo inviting or encouraging a whole lot of OTT-ness. First of all, he strikes me as a regular dude, although a talented one. And doesn’t he live out on some big farm or something with his wife and kids? He’s not very OTT-fan-accessible. Plus there wasn’t the big HE WUZ ROBBED thing that I think feeds Clay/Adam fans, not that I noticed anyway. I was sad he didn’t win but Carrie clearly was a talented (if boring) girl so it wasn’t a shocker. Taylor’s fans… I don’t know how to explain that one so much, lol. (And I happen to like the guy).

          • muzikizmi

I was hoping Bo would win his season. He is a WGWG (white guy with guitar) even though he wasn’t allowed to play it on the show. I know Carrie is a supahhstahh, but I still wouldn’t cross the street to catch her show. I don’t hate her, she is just there (much the same way that Glambert is just there).

          • Blue Eyes

Yes, I think Bo does live on a farm and has 2 or 3 kids. I know I read somewhere he has his own recording studio too. He must have invested his money well.

        • Burgundy LaRue

Slight correction: Bo was engaged during the show, got married right after.

          To add to jukejoint’s list:

          4) ConstanStank got 90% of the over-the-top tards during S4. To which Bo thanks him for taking on that burden, I’m sure.

          • et

I think I remember reading that he has his own studio on his property. Which is cool.

        • maturin

Seemed like a strong person in his own right

I think that’s it. While I think regular guy guys (and girls) like Bo, Kris, Kelly, Cook, Daughtry or even beloved Goat Boy, all get some tarding, fed by the Idol psychic ploy that you are helping “create/save” the young pop hero or heroine, the really angry stuff is fed by the opportunity to feel self-righteous, to project that your fighting some sort of battle when your behavior gets super cray cray. And nothing fuels that battle like picking someone to schmoop over whome the rest of the world rolls their eyes at. It’s Mama’s Boy Eleventy.

That’s why you find Sparkle Cows who were formerly Claymates, and Soul Patrollers morphing into Archies and then Gokeyites. Perceptions about religion and “purity” are one form of projection; protectingfromthegay/protectingthe gay are another.

Er, anyway, Bo’s always seemed like a lovely guy. And one who’d be fun to drink with.

      • Miz

I think the crazies went the Constantine route that year. I was a Bo fan.

  • Miz

I was just saying last night how much I can’t stand David Hasslehoff and there he is.

    • et

You conjured him up! The Hoff returns!

  • On The Edge

*Taylor: “Boy, it was a great idea to get all the Bama Idols together! Hey Bo, is it just me…or has Ruben REALLY changed?”

Sorry, I suck at this. If Kellie Pickler had been there I could have gone for a cheap Baywatch/fake boob joke. Plus I just can’t snark at these guys in context of why they’re together. I’m glad they took the time to do this for my home state. Y’all come to Mississippi, we’ve got a lot of great stuff here!
