Adam Lambert’s Bittersweet Tweet made me semi-sad for 1 minute

2010 August 1
by TopIdol

Adam Lambert just Tweeted something and it made me kind of sad :(

Are you out there, gays who want to play at Adam Lambert’s Twitter party? Come on…Diva Kalina! This is why you NEED to use Twitter more. Save this man from his personal hell. Save him from the glitter-encrusted mee maws. It’s not too late…is it?

Sadly, this likely means at least a handful of his fans will adopt online gay-male personas (or what they assume a gay male would be like, the knowledge of which was probably acquired by watching The Birdcage and Will & Grace reruns.) in the hopes Adam will talk to them during a Twitter party. Please don’t, ladies, please do not provide anyone with more material in which to mock.

Anyway, come on gays. If you’re an Adam Lambert fan, it’s time to bring it.

(Also, WHY THE HELL AM I TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING CALLED A TWITTER PARTY?)

Spread the word. Do it.

Lambert is playing at an abandoned slaughterhouse tonight. Why? The pictures coming up are not pretty.

  • nerdgirl

Poor Adam, he needs to take an English class or something. I bet poporange learned her spelling and grammar from him.

    • magnacarta

lol it’s just a tweet though. perfect grammar and spelling are not required for that.

      • nerdgirl

OK, I’ll remember that next time somebody criticizes my grammar …

  • Katie112

LMFAO!!!! I feel the exact opposite of what you feel TI. Oh Madam, what kind of gay man would want a pudgy, flaming queen that’s about as attractive to look at as a fat hairy ass or worse, a vagina with Crohn’s disease? Had you stayed true to your sexuality, you probably could have been semi-lucky, but what can we expect from a famewhore?

Posing as a bisexual didn’t bring you fame, but it did give an invitation to your elephantine cows to take your panties off and do what they want with whatever is underneath them. Your Sparkle Cows do look like men, so all is not lost however. Learn to live with them.

    • uh

      @Katie112

Your comment is really disgusting. I hope you felt dirty after writing this, because otherwise I just feel sorry for you.

      • et

Some comments are better ignored. Really.

      • Katie112

I’m truly sorry. I’ll keep it clean the next time by taking cues from fanfics written by the Sparkle Cows.

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I don’t think everything you write should be an attack against the sparkle herd, or Lambert, or whatever. And if someone calls you out on it, it does not have to necessarily be another attack. People are always going to be offended and will not agree with everyone, and I do not want a blog where everyone agrees, but there’s no reason to always go for the jugular and just say outright nasty things.

And if someone is offended by something, ignore it and/or email me. I just don’t want a hostile environment, that’s all. Nor do I want to waste my time playing moderator.

    • Llamakhan

Wow umm that was rude and unnecessary.

    • marissa

      Woah…that’s a lot of hate.

    • marissa

Looking at the comment again to see if I was being oversensitive–no, I think this is pretty weirdly hateful. Why do you hate Adam that much?

also, calling someone a “flaming queen” as an insult is kind of offensive.

This is probably pointless, but: as far as I know, Adam has always said he’s gay. I have gay male friends who will occasionally make out with a girl if they get drunk enough (and female friends who are the same way, lol), but they’re still gay.

      • Lauren

Marissa, just ignore her. I was going to say something but TI got to her first and that’s good enough for me. She’s being inflammatory on purpose.

But in other news, yayyyy your back!!!!!!!!

        • marissa

          Hey Lauren. :)

Yeah, I was back today and saw what was going on (with Destry and everything) in that previous post, but I don’t think it’s a place I want to hang out in, you know?

It’s probably pointless for me to occasionally show up just to criticize, lol. But idk, I thought it was interesting that Destry seemed to feel something similar to what I was feeling–I thought maybe as an outsider to the blog I was getting a skewed perception, so it was interesting to see a regular feel the same way. There’s just too much hate here for Adam, it doesn’t make sense.

And yeah, you’re right, ignoring this person is best.

And hey, if you ever want another place to go–I go to this livejournal comm called hooplamagnet. It’s just a compilation of all Adam news with some discussion, there’s no trash talking of other idol people allowed (the mods are great) and most people there don’t care about that anyway. It’s pretty nice and free of drama. :)

snapcracklypop That is a wonderful interview! It is great to hear Adam get quized about Kris. My dearest & best friend, who happens to be gay, totally adores Kris! I got such a kick out of chatting him up about AI8, asking him about his favorite. He was all, “oh you know, little cute little one” I guess my friend and Adam have the same taste in boys.

    • snapcracklypop

Haha…well, that still gives Kris one more gay fan. I remember Kris said once that a man dressed in a suit ran toward the stage and threw a bouquet of roses (he motions like as if it he was throwing a football). Who wears a suit at a pop/rock concert? He either dressed up for it on purpose or he came to the show after work.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

That sounds like something that would happen at a Smiths show in the early 80s.

  • pattyluponey

I was just having a convo the other night with some lovely young gay men about Mr. Lambert. In summary, they are ready for him to give up this pop thing and come back to musical theatre. One of the boys is an assistant to a big Broadway producer and he said that producers are itching to get their hands on him. Even though he’s not the greatest actor, his voice and fame make him a hot commodity. I think if he came to New York, did a few Broadway shows finally, then he would attract more gay fans. My friends also agreed his look was a little “too LA” for their tastes. I’m not going to suggest based on a couple of young gay New Yorkers that this is what every one in the gay community feels, but what they said seems to agree with other things I hear…

    • MissMyEm

My friends also agreed his look was a little “too LA” for their tastes.

I live in L.A. I have several gay friends in the entertainment industry. I’ve worked in that industry for well over 15 years. It is an industry where gays are just a part of the industry as much as everyone else. They do not perform or work in get up anything near what Adam wears. The only time I’ve seen anything remotely similar to Adam’s look is when West Hollywood does it’s annual Gay Pride Parade. And there is another parade they participate in, but the name of the parade escapes me. That’s when people go OTT in their dress. Most of the gays I know do not dress like Adam. And Adam is not very L.A. at all.

      • sj

But are you talking about Adam’s performance “costumes” vs. regular go-to-work-in-L.A. clothes? Maybe pattyluponey’s friends mean the WeHo party or club scene look?

        • MissMyEm

But are you talking about Adam’s performance “costumes” vs. regular go-to-work-in-L.A. clothes? Maybe pattyluponey’s friends mean the WeHo party or
          club scene look?

Maybe so, but all she said was her friends think Adam’s look is too L.A. for their
tastes. And considering that NY has a Gay Pride Parade and
a gay club scene as well, I don’t see the difference. All I’m saying
is I have gay friends and Adam’s look is not typical of the L.A. gay man.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

To be fair, I’ve seen a lot of bad fashion everywhere, but in LA, the shit that’s sold on Melrose? Yikes.

Perhaps its because we don’t see Lambert dressing down a lot these days since he’s touring, and I will agree, it’s not typical every day wear, but do I see people dressing like that at the occasional party? YES. Perhaps not quite as OTT, but most of the photos we see are of him on stage, and lots of people overdo things on stage. It’s why a lot of theater actors come off as over-emotive hams (Cast of Glee, I never want to see on on my TV again) because you’re supposed to “act to the very back of the audience.”

I’m not a fan of Lambert’s preferred look not because I am SCARED of it. (Ha!) It’s because he just doesn’t look good. He’s attractive when he’s subdued, which is probably more so because of his skintone/natural coloring than anything else. I know plenty of straight guys who wear eyeliner, some in LA, some here. So yeah, do I think it works sometimes, of course.

          • ross

Usually I agree with you, TI, but I think most good actors from the stage can figure out film.
Edward Norton came from the stage. Or, in the past, Robert Redford, Montgomery Clift, Henry Fonda.

I think the Glee actors are just bad actors who think what they’re doing is good acting. And the directing/writing staff must think so too.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I would say its more musical theater, perhaps? Although I agree with YOU. There are plenty of actors who do well on any stage. Like the late great Jerry Orbach.

But the people on Glee, and the Kristen Chenowiths of the world (wait…her and Idina Menzel might count b/c they have done Glee), I just don’t care for it.

          • jukejoint

I think there is a certain style or maybe styles — campy, diva-ish, big — that works for certain people on stage, like Ethel Merman and Judy Garland and the whole “Wicked” crowd, as well as Bette Midler and Nathan Lane and Martin Short and Jerry Lewis and… Well, you get the idea. It’s like their mottos are Bigger Is Always Better and I Will Pin You in Your Seat with the Force of My Entertainment. Sometimes it’s not a person but the whole style of the thing (everything Ryan Murphy like “Glee” and “Nip Tuck” at the top of the list) or even the art design (“Pushing Daisies” and “Ugly Betty” and “Desperate Housewives” when it started.)

Sometimes it works for me (I love Bette Midler and Nathan Lane and “Rocky Horror” and its crazed over-the-topitude totally works for me) and sometimes it doesn’t (I hate Jerry Lewis, Ethel Merman, Kristin Chenoweth and the entire Chris Farley school of comedy). But it isn’t everybody on stage. “Glee” works for me sometime, but then, it starts to take itself too seriously and totally blows the whole camp/fun mood for me.

And Adam kind of does the same thing, like Patti Lupone, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Lea Michele, Madonna, Whiney Houston, Lady Gaga… All taking themselves way too seriously, going way too far out of control, and for my taste, they need to divide by at least five. You know, Patti Lupone playing Evita worked because Evita was a fakefakefake. Matthew Morrison in “Light in the Piazza” was awesome [nice, understated musical that it is] but he’s a lot less likeable in “Glee” because the style emphasizes his bad points, not his good ones.

Just a theory. I’ve been thinking about this since I know several musical theater fanatics who don’t like “Glee” at all. As one of my friends told me, “I should love this show. On paper, it’s perfect for me. And yet… I just don’t like it at all.”

  • caspar

According to MJs, Billy Bell from SYTYCD has been tweet-begging Lambert, asking to be a dancer in his show. So there’s one gay for Adam. Plus Billy’s short, scrawny, barely legal, and very limber.

    • Lauren

He’s a cutie but I think he’s a little too on the younger side for Adam. I think he likes his boys more…well Kris’s age.

    • magnacarta

His last name is Bell? Lambert has already dated a Bell.

  • spinningfasterandfastertonowhere

I can answer that. Many gay men are not attracted to men who wear heavy make-up, outlandish clothes and glitter. It is considered OTT in the gay world. You can friends who are your “sister” who are like that, but not as a love interest. We tend to like “boyish” types or manly men and sadly Adam does not fit the bill of those two types. All my gay friends think Adam is too queenie. Not a slam, but just telling the truth.

You can imagine an Italian-American who hates Guidos, or African-Americans who hate “gangstas” because of the negative stereotype that goes with people who act or dress a certain way…well the same can be said for Adam. Many gay men perceive Adam as a stereotype of what straights see as what a gay man would be like. Like Boy George from the 80s.

I can see some young gay guys wanting to ‘hook up’ with Adam because of the fame and money, or gay guys being interested in his music.

In the gay world guys like Kris are extremely popular. I think if Adam was more natural looking he would have more of a gay following, but then he wouldn’t be Adam.

People in the Idol bubble know that Adam is not as queenie as he appears, but outside of the Idol bubble sadly people go by first impressions.

    • spinningfasterandfastertonowhere

…and apparently Adam is one of those who likes the Kris type…lol

Now there are some guys who like the “look” that Adam has, I just haven’t met any.

    • JaneRochester

This is interesting. Are you saying his stage persona is so OTT that it turns people off him completely, or is he viewed as OTT in daily life?

      • MarkC

I don’t think most people would *care* about him in daily life, barring the exceptional. The “everyone is the nicest person ever!” phenomena, unless it’s more a part of the total presentation (Taylor Swift kind of comes to mind here). So more the former. But interesting question.

    • ross

In the gay world guys like Kris are extremely popular.

In any world guys like Kris are extremely popular.

  • ross

I don’t get why he didn’t say, “Where are the guys?” Meaning any guys, gay or straight.

    • justpeachy

I thought the same thing, Ross. Reminds me of Kathy Griffin.

    • Lauren

But he can’t flirt with the straight guys! He already tried with Kris and the dude’s still married.

    • magnacarta

Haha. When I saw the tweet, my first though was ladies can be gay too.

  • Mysterioso

    Maybe he meant “Gay Activists”.

  • Tw!sted_S!ster

They are too scared. My gay friends like him a lot but they are not into the fandom craziness. Glambert’s realm can be a little too overwhelming sometimes. That’s why I try to stay away from the most crazy ones.

  • Peppermint Patty

You mean he’s not taken in by the Sparkle Cows pretending to be gay men online?

    • cc

They can’t really hide using Glam or Glambert# as their twitter names.

  • JaneRochester

OMG that’s right! I totally forgot.

When I saw Kris in Milwaukee, there were these two girls sitting next to us in the first row of chairs (from that row to the front of the house it was scattered tables for four). On the other side of them was a gay couple.

Some people left a table right in front of them when the show started to go up front. The boys quickly snagged two of the chairs, then one of them turned around and asked the girls if they wanted to join them. (Then my daughter and I moved over into their (much better) seats.) Everyone was happy, and by the time GRO finished and Kris came on, the four of them were acting like they’d all gone to college together. It was really cute.

    • sj

      Sometimes I really love people!

  • ross

I’ll venture a guess where his gays be at. Ladies scared ‘em all away with their cray cray.

  • Nich

I’m such a bad person because I totally giggled. Oh Adam. Where *are* your gays at?

  • deez

    glitter-encrusted mee maws

    Uh-oh.

    *ducks and covers*

  • JaneRochester

An interesting dilemma. Maybe the gays know that Twitter is truly the devil. Why didn’t they tell us?

  • sj

All the gays follow Kris. LOL

Woops – not tryin’ to start nuthin’ ;D

    • MissMyEm

Well…but it’s kind of true. They were apart of the very diverse crowd that was in San Diego.

    • Paulie

All the gays follow Kris. LOL

My snarky self also thought of that. Hehe!

Maybe I shouldn’t have unfollowed Adam on Twitter. Oh well, I’ll just make my presence known in person (when hopefully I get to meet him in October)

    • snapcracklypop

Well, Adam wouldn’t be the only gay man who consider guys like Kris his type. There seems to be a lot that prefer Kris, but I’m sure Adam has them too somewhere…just not very aware of them. The guys that I saw at the Glam Nation were husbands or boyfriends to the women, but I did see one or two glammified guys. I know, I know…I tend to answer comments with videos. That’s just what I do. Call me tard or whatever. I just like hearing people giving Kris props, because he is often overlooked *cough* Season 9 *cough*. So there. haha. This interview was a few weeks ago.

      • barado

This is why I can’t snark on Adam too much. However, some of his fans…..

        • ross

It’s nice how everyone who Kris knows says basically the same things
about him. Makes me think that the real Kris we’re seeing.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Does the interviewer write Kradam slash? Ha.

Exactly. If we could all focus on the things about us which are alike instead of what is different, a lot less strife in the world. (And oh, if everyone could laugh at themselves and others freely, but I just threw that one in.)

        • snapcracklypop

I just extracted the Kris related talk from the interview, but that interviewer sure was interested in what he had to say about him and Kris. It made me wonder if that radio guy was a shipper or something. haha. Dang it. I don’t usually say the word “shipper.”

          • ross

Where does that expression come from, anyway?

          • jukejoint

I believe “ship” comes from “relationship.” I think it started in the earliest fan fic circles, when they were writing about relationships between characters who were not romantically involved in the real movie/story/whatever. The first fan fic stuff with people shipping couples that I know about was Star Trek, but I have no idea how far back it goes. I try not to know anything about fan fic. It’s too depressing.

But, anyway, “Ooooh, I want a relationship between Ugura and a Tribble” became “I ship Uhura/Tribble” and then “I’m an Uhuribble shipper!!! I heart them! I have written reams and reams of stories about Uhuribble where the Tribble is a mysterious tycoon and Uhura comes to his island to be his nanny and I stole the plot and all the sex scenes out of a Silhouette Desire and then just put Uhura and Tribble for the names that were in the book but aren’t anymore!!!!!!! Please read my fan fic and rate it!!!!!!1111!!!!!!!”

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

The term likely came about on listserves in the mid-90s during The X-Files.

The activity of fans creating relationships out of some or most of the cast of characters far predates the term. Though “ship” is undoubtedly a derivative of the word “relationship”, where and when it was first used to indicate involvement with fictional romance is unclear. However, the archives of the newsgroup X-files show that the word “shipper” was already in established use among fans of The X-Files as early as May 1996.

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shipping_%28fandom%29

          • Lauren

@Juke, please tell me “Uhurrible” fanfic doesn’t actually exist. xDDDDD

          • JaneRochester

re: Fanfic…yep. I was there. For The X-Files, that is. Even wrote some. I held to a strictly “no-romance zone” however. And I would never in a million bazillion years write anything romantic or non-romantic, about real people. Fictional characters ONLY.

          • jukejoint

Lauren, as far as I know, Uhurrible fan fic does not exist. Maybe I should write some, though. Those tribbles look like they would be mighty fine lovers.

Excuse me while I go wash out my brain with soap…

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

A friend of mine swears there is no Lorax fan fic on the net. I have tried searching. If you ever stumble across Lorax fic, you must send to me ASAP.

          • Lauren

LOLOLOLOL Juke! I guess you’re right. How else would they multiply so fast?

            Pass the soap please?

          • saskin

This is very interesting. I wonder if shipping goes across different series, like Uhura and Harry Potter. Or even different genres, like Emma Bovary runs into Lara Croft one day while taking a walk and they save Betty from Mad Men from a monster and proceed to have a party together.

          • Lauren

I don’t know about Uhura/ Potter but there are crossover fics. I once came across a particularly disturbing Twilight/ Adam Lambert crossover fic.

          • snapcracklypop

Thanks JukeJoint for giving my lips a work out by having to read the names Uhura, Tribble, and Uhurrible over and over again. lol.

      • sj

        Sweetheart.

      • Lauren

Awww cute interview. I <3 Kradam!

I saw a boy who kinda looked like Kris at Glam Nation. He was wearing plaid. :)

      • JaneRochester

I finally got to watch your vid. Love it!

        • snapcracklypop

Thanks! It’s funny how he realizes that his description of his type (although short) obviously point to Kris. I’ve heard him say little younger too somewhere. Hm…okay, I found it. This was back in March, but if you listen starting from 1:32-2:55. He gets asked about his crush on Kris and sort of says a similar thing, and then he goes into a little more detail about his type.

    • Verbally Dyslexic

Clearly Kris needs to help a friend out and get his gay admirers to follow Adam.

      • Gene

I don’t think Adam needs help from Kris. Adam has more than 570,000 followers on Twitter and many of them are gay people. Also lots of gay celebs are following him. Kris has about 200,000 followers and I don’t see many gay people sending tweets to him.

        • Verbally Dyslexic

LOL oh you, trying to edumacate me! If I ever feel the need to obsessively stalk Adam’s and/or Kris’s twitter feeds, I’ll remember to consult you.

          • Gene

LOL You are the one who claimed that Kris has many gay followers. How did you figure that out without obsessively examining Kris’s twitter followers?

          • Verbally Dyslexic

You’re not familiar with the concept of snark, are you.

  • Lauren

I just noticed he said “u know U love u to death” not “u know I love you to death” LOL! How fitting :) Freudian slip????

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

      HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Good call, Lauren!

    • MissMyEm

LOL…I was just going to post that. Freudian slip and all.

  • Lauren

Awww poor Adam. :( There were some cute gay boys at the concert I went to, but again, mostly ladies. I need to get my “not gay” Glambert male friend to tweet him.

    • spinningfasterandfastertonowhere

      He needs more gay luv
