Kris Allen went to St. Louis

2010 July 8
by TopIdol

Kris Allen went to St. Louis. Well, actually…he performed at Six Flags in Eureka, MO, which really is not St. Louis but its close enough and since I was born and raised in St. Louis, I decided this deserved a special post.

Fourteen Plums posted most everything he did at Six Flags, at least on stage. Enjoy. If you were lucky enough to attend the show (and ride Batman. Their Batman ride is superior to the Batman ride at Six Flags New England for whatever reason), hit me up. Those are my old stomping grounds!

Photos from Kris’s show tonight are now up. They can be found here: http://s575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/DCChatters/Kris%20Allen%20Concert/

Disclaimers: (1) I love photography, and have been trying to get good concert shots. That explains the tons of photos; and (2) I love guitars, and like taking pictures of the guitarist’s hands playing. So, those are not “crotch shots”. LOL

Opening acts were Jeffrey David and Angel Taylor. We got there while Jeffrey was playing, and befriended the cool people in front of us who were at the barricade. They are huge Barenaked Ladies fans (who was the headliner), and when we told them we’d have to leave early due to train schedules and would probably miss BNL, they offered for us to stand in their places at the barricade during Kris’s show since we were leaving afterwards. The one girl who offered is 6’1″, and I’m only 5’2″. Her offer was absolutely cool, so many thanks to them.

Speaking of short, Kris is very tiny. I knew he was short, but man oh man he’s really tiny. Anyway…

Drunk Kris fan was rather annoying. She was also at the barricade and kept screaming out to Kris. When Kris asked if we were looking forward to seeing BNL after him, this idiot screamed out, “I didn’t vote for Barenaked Ladies!!!” Not a smart thing to do while standing in the midst of BNL fans, but for the most part she was harmless.

Other than that, the show was fantastic, Kris was in great voice, the band was tight and professional (even when one of the guitars malfunctioned and wouldn’t play during “Live Like We’re Dying”), and you could tell these guys really like working together.

        You took some great photos.

        • songkat7

          Thank you!

          • ross

songkat7, thanks for the pictures and the recap. I notice that if you click on any of the pictures a second time, it blows the picture up to huge proportions! I love that, for all the small details.

I don’t know if I’d describe Kris as tiny, though it seems everyone does. I mean, he really is 5’7″. I have a friend that height, and I met Kris, and I was sure he was my friend’s height. He’s sort of slight, though. He’s got no fat on him at all. In a way, that makes him seem smaller.

          • songkat7

Thank you – I’m glad you enjoyed them. And I wanted everyone to enjoy the hi-res so I uploaded the full versions.

I didn’t stand next to him, I just thought he looked really small. A girl who’d met him was there and showed me a pic she took with him where he seemed small, and she said he was my height. She was obviously wrong LOL!

His legs are shorter in proportion to his body, maybe that’s why he seemed so slight.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

You know what always puts things in perspective, though?

I’m 5’7. This is “taller” for females. So its funny when you think about actors. Like Michael J. Fox is 5’4-5’5. And I think Tom Cruise is like 5’6. But the latter wears lifts. And I suspect Mark Wahlberg is a borderline midget.

          • ross

Gee, I disagree, songkat7, I don’t think Kris’s legs are shorter in proportion to his body. (That would be Lee) He’s well proportioned. At least, I think so.

            She was obviously wrong LOL!

Well, I think so, anyway. Besides, I doubt Kris would lie about his height. He’s not the type.
And if he was really 5’2″, that would make Gokey about 5’5″, or 5’6″, and I don’t think he’s ever described as short.

          • ross

(I forgot to add:) By “slight” I meant he doesn’t weigh a lot. He has a really think waist, and his hands are slender, and overall he’s not a beefy guy at all.

          • ross

            “thin” waist.

          • songkat7

Maybe it was just my perspective then. I am short, I was about 10 feet from the stage, and the stage was elevated. Hard to get a good handle on it.

All I know is, he’s taller than me! LOL

          • ross

You may be right, anyhow, not me. It’s all personal perception! I just like to try to figure this stuff out, for some reason. Anyhow, thanks for your pictures, they’re awesome. I liked how you got a lot of the band, also.

          • et

I am a sasquatch at 5’9″ so yeah, many of the actors that are deemed “hot” are just too darn short for me. And musicians? Soccer players? Forget it, lol. (Except, if you follow US soccer, Oguchi Onyewu – hello handsome tall man).

          • deez

The height argument has been going on some time. Some people swear that he’s microscopic, lol. For a true picture, you’ve got this:

Ben Stiller is listed at 5′ 6.5″. He has a little bit of heel and Kris is in chucks. They are the same height. Ellen is listed at 5″ 7.5″, when he was on her show, she appeared just slightly taller.
5′ 7″ is definitely short for a guy, but not extraordinarily so. I think Ross is correct, he’s just compact.

          • ross

            Nice detective work.

          • deez

            LOL

          • Verbally Dyslexic

Soccer players? Forget it, lol. (Except, if you follow US soccer, Oguchi Onyewu – hello handsome tall man).

Et, I watch a lot of European footba– I mean, soccer! I can name a fairly good number of players who are at least 5’11″.

      • carmine2008

Great pics. Can I just say that Cale is just… Cale. I’m just going to leave it at that. :)

        • songkat7

Thanks! Yes, Cale is…and Latin Jesus is…yup.

      • songkat7

Many thanks to everyone’s kind comments about the photos. I really appreciate it.

      • blacklisted

OMG thanks for the pictures of Cale! The short dude doesn’t look bad either.

    • jazz

Thanks for your recap, and I love your disclaimers about the photos!

      • nerdgirl

I went to the John Hancock Plaza concert! Just wanted to make a couple of comments.

        1) Kris did not appear “tiny” to me. He appeared to be “normal” sized. Although he is not tall, he has nice broad shoulders and nice muscular arms and did not appear “slight” to me. But what do I know, I am only 5 feet tall without heels and nobody dares to call me tiny.

        2) After the show Kris stayed and signed stuff for fans, although he had to go and prepare for the second show in the evening. I am very glad he did, because I brought his CD with me and was hoping to get it signed. He also gave away already signed photos, so I grabbed one, too. Cale and Katy also were there and they signed the CD and Kris’ picture for me and were super-nice.

        • ross

          Yay, nerdgirl!

      • songkat7

Thank you! Yeah, all I could think about as I took the guitar playing photos was, “I’d better explain these”. LOL

        • songkat7

(This reply was for Jazz’s comments about the photo disclaimer.)

  • oddgirl

Kris had two shows in Chicago today — one a free Noontime gig, the other on the main stage at the World’s Largest Block party, and from the tweets and videos, it sounds like he totally kicked butt at both gigs. ANYWAY, today was his wife’s birthday, and he brought that up at the Noontime gig. This is just too cute…

    • oddgirl

anyway, the funniest thing is that I saw a comment on one of the message boards where the person thought that instead of “I only did it for that”, Kris said “I only did it so she’d put out”. LOL — selective hearing!

Also, the local ABC station posted Kris’s entire noontime set — nearly a 1/2 hour of footage, complete with banter.

      http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=7520423

      • et

Thanks, oddgirl, I played that footage while I was working and really enjoyed it! He sounded great.

    • cc

      Thanks oddgirl. That’s soo sweet.

  • songkat7

Kris’s show tonight was awesome! Pictures later if anyone’s interested.

And yes, Cale is quite good looking as is Latin Jesus. Not that I’m tarding or anything, I’ll leave that to the drunk Kris fan who was unfortunately near me.

    • ross

      I’m interested (in pictures)!

  • jukejoint

Is anyone interested in the entire free lunchtime concert Krispy gave today in Chicago? The local ABC afiliate has kindly offered video of the whole thing.

    http://abclocal.go.com/wls/video?id=7546431&pid=7520423

    • magnacarta

He attracted quite a crowd too.

      • DeeDee

How on earth did such a boring, bland guy as Krispy have so many people come out to listen to him. They must have thought he was giving out free pizza.

        • ross

I think I read he was handing out free cigars to all the kiddies.

  • jmom376

Hi everyone! Life has been crazy lately and I haven’t been able to stop by here lately.

St. Louis is also my old stomping grounds too and I worked at this Six Flags for 4 years when I was younger. Awesome place to work as a teenager.

It looks like Kris had a lot of fun and had an awesome show.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Too funny. Cindy also worked at Six Flags in STL. I technically worked there, too. For 2 weeks for some Sports Illustrated & Nerf Sports Festival or something. I was 16 and got the job b/c I was a camp counselor with the parks department and my boss was putting this on. I was surrounded by hot ass college guys, mainly those who played soccer and stuff in college. I wonder if any of them stayed hot. Damn. So long ago. I also stood in front of the entrance and talked on a mic trying to get people to come in. They paid us $50/day.

      • petunia

Hmm. I never worked there, but went there a bunch of times – grew up about an hour south of Six Flags.

        I loved the Screamin’ Eagle…

Glad to see that Kris had a good time there!

      • jmom376

It was a really long time ago for me. I even worked there one winter after I graduated. It was really cool to be in the park when no tourists were around. Being surrounded by hot ass college guys is a very good think :} There were a lot of hot employees too. The offsite parties that we had were A LOT of fun.

I loved growing up in St. Louis and all of things to do there.

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Where did you grow up? What high school did you go to? ;)

          • jmom376

Sorry, I went to bed early last night and just saw this. BTW: I am 42 and I left St. Louis when I was 21, so this was a long time ago…

When I was a kid, I lived in Pond, MO (close to Ellisville/Manchester). We moved when I was in 9th grade and I went to HS at Pacific High School (Pacific, MO) and then moved to Clayton for a couple of years after I graduated. In HS I always dated guys that lived in the City, so I hung out around Downtown and Italian Hill a lot (loved that area).

The employee debaucherd/drunken fest parties were the best! For a lot of underage kids, we sure had an unlimited supply of alcohol (can’t remember how I got it, LOL). We also had lots of awesome float trips and those always ended up being scary drunken drives back to town..

St. Louis area was an awesome place to grow up. I miss it a lot sometimes, but not the winters. I still have family in Missouri, but they moved to Lesterville (Black River area-camping & canoeing). So we try to visit them every couple of years and stop in St. Louis when we can.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Is it just me, or do float trips ONLY exist in Missouri? I think this is a MO phenomenon.

I grew up in Creve Coeur and in high school, we moved to Chesterfield. But I spent most of my time in/around the city, especially U City.

          • On The Edge

No, not just Missouri…I’ve been on float trips in Arkansas, Tennessee and Virginia. Not Missouri though, sorry. :(

      • ophelia64

Not one of the many 6 flags employees who are chiming in, although my best friend was one of the strap in the screamin eagle people in one summer. she always spoke fondly (after she got up after noon and drank a big glass of tomato juice) of the employee debaucherd parties.
I, on the otherhand, have always been a faithful 6 flags attendee, slaving over tubs of hard-serve ice crea, tubs to jerk my way to Six Flag tickets and gas money. I love me some roller coasters, and the log flume on a hot day. Although, the bugs bunny characters freak me out ever since my daughter once saw Chip, of chip and dale fame, with his head pushed backed and smoking a cigarette back behind the facade of “The Happiest Place on Earth” during a parade thing she did at DisneyWorld.

Also is that “tadatadtadtada” 6 flags he/she the creepiest advertizing rep ever? Just me? Surely not.

        • ophelia64

Oh, and I almost forgot. What High School did you all go to?

        • magnacarta

I think the drunken debauchery is just a Six Flags phenomenon. I worked in a Six Flags outside of the States. I think there are two in existence, so no cookie if you guess which one, and we have those awesome parties too.

  • Gerry

I find it funny that this week people are upset that Kris looks all sweaty in a tee-shirt when last week everybody was upset he was out in the heat with an undershirt on under his plaid shirt.
You can’t have it both ways. The two shirts helped soak up the sweat.

    • MissMyEm

I find it funny that this week people are upset that Kris looks all sweaty in a tee-shirt when last week everybody was upset he was out in the heat with an undershirt on under his plaid shirt.

Who’s upset? I think he looks kind of hot. But then again I’m a dirty old broad. ;)

      • jmom376

someone on MJs was upset in Kris’s thread. She said she didn’t like seeing sweaty Kris on the main page. She said she that although Adam looked like a fool sometimes, at least he wasn’t a sweaty fool. LOL.

        • deez

          Adam doesn’t sweat?

          • Blue Eyes

No, Adam does not sweat. He’s a glittery alien and they do not sweat. *sarcasm*

          • jukejoint

For awhile there, they were actually contending that A___ did not, in fact, sweat. Then when there was evidence of him sweating like a mofo, they suddenly decided that OMG, SWEATING WAS THE SAXIEST THING EVA!!!~!11111!!!!111! But only if it’s their lova doing it.

          • deez

Wow. He can’t do anything. He can’t wear a hat, hold a note, post a pic, eat exotic foods (or chicken), drink ,smoke, swear, pee,… and now sweating is verboten?

I hope he can sleep at night.

          • deez

He being” That One Guy”, of course.

          • Blue Eyes

That’s not real sweat coming out of Adam’s pores…it’s all sparkly and shiny like glitter! Glitter sweat!!!!

          • deez

Hmmmmmm…perhaps “That One Guy” isn’t vague enough. Who?

          • jmom376

LOL Deez.. He probably can’t do that either because he said he was getting a massage from somebody on the bus.. (teehee.. fictious Glambert interpretation of his comment about the road and the bottom bunk)

          • jukejoint

Yeah, I totally heard that Curs Alien and some guy on the bus — probably the cigar-smoking gangsta one — are giving each other massages every night. EVERY night. Is that gross or what? That guy really needs a handler with a stronger hold on the leash and some PR coaching stat. He has now offended people who think everyone should be in a tank top, people who think no one should be in a tank top, people in wheelchairs, gamblers, vegetarians, people with lung cancer, anti-drug advocates, atheists, Christians (having someone who looks like Jesus in his band is SO offensive), gays (since all his voters are homophobes), homophobes (since he and Jesus are giving each other massages every night), aliens (objectifying ET is just WRONG on so many levels), animal lovers, anti-sweat advocates, people of height, people with hair on their heads instead of their feet, people who think seeing naked torsos is wrong, people who think not seeing enough naked torsos is wrong, people who hate Arkansas (how dare he be proud of his state???? That horrid Bill Clinton is from there. And if you don’t hate Bill Clinton, you probably do hate Mike Huckabee, and he’s from that cursed state, too!!!), people who hate Southerners, people who hate married people, people who hate people with cute blonde wives, people who hate Chick-Fil-A, and… Well, just about everyone!!!!!

I guess he still has Mel Gibson on his side.

          • deez

            LOLOLOL!!!

          • Blue Eyes

            Bwahahahahahahah! I needed that laugh!

          • jmom376

            That’s really funny!

      • JaneRochester

I can’t believe I’m even thinking this (for reasons up to an including the fact I’m old enough to be his mother) much less writing it on the internets for all the world to see…

        but SweatyKris is kinda hot.

        I need a drink now.

        • et

Aw, JaneRochester, you’re ok. If you would have said “Sweaty Kris is kinda hot… THUD!” well, then we might have a problem. Haha!

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

            No floving, flailing or thudding!

And if you’ve ever experienced St. Louis humidity…sweat happens.

          • et

            Or squeeing? No squeeing?

Some of the stuff people post skeers me.

I will confess that if Kris was taller than me, though, I would probably have a bit of a crush on him. He’s adorable. But if you’re shorter than me… well, no. Heh.

          • JaneRochester

I was in Kirksville last weekend for my daughter’s college orientation, and holy crap was it humid. Bleccchhh. Sadly, Kris didn’t cross my mind.

He’s taller than me. By a good 5″. But, like I said, I’m old. Fortunately, I have Clive Owen to soothe my wounded libido. Ahhhhhh.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I went to school there my freshman year. Hated it. Wasn’t for me. I hear there is more in the town now, though. We were stuck getting drunk and going to Walmart a lot. And the Pancake Shitty!

          • deez

            CLIVE OWEN *sigh*

          • jukejoint

I went to a really cool wedding in Kirksville and then we camped out at a park on a lake the next night, before we drove home to IL. Cool park. Strange town.

I also went to a wedding (not at all cool) in Rolla. Crazy Baptist minister talking about internet porn and how the newlyweds were virgins and how if they got divorced they would go straight to hell. At a wedding. Cree. Pee.

        • mtlfan

          jukejoint…… ROFL

          • jukejoint

Thank you for getting that I was trying to be funny. After I wrote that, I kind of got worried that someone would think I was serious. I’m still kind of worried that somebody will be copying it and posting it on Glambert sites, going SEE? Other people agree with us that this stuff is OFFENSIVE!!! Which would suck.

          • parsenip

Only the terminally humor challenged would think you were serious jukejoint. And who cares what they think.

I guess he still has Mel Gibson on his side.

HA! Poor Mel. He will always be the hottest guy that has every walked the planet for me whatever antics, real or contrived, he engages in these days.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

My mother talks about his “drunk eyes.” I was trying to explain to her how on those tapes, he was either perfectly sober or coked up out of his gourd.

Here’s an article on Michael Slezak’s appearance on the Y & the R (as “Allen Cook”)

    • naiya

That looks like a lot of fun. Go, Michael!

      • deez

        “Clarkson Fantasiasox” bwahahahaha!!!

I Will be setting the DVR for that one! TI, you need to be on a Soap as the face behind the infamous “IdolTopper” blog, Carrie Kelly.

  • magnacarta

What are your thoughts on this? Some people are already starting wank over it.

    • ross

What should our thoughts be? Is it against the law to smoke cigars?

      • Pandora

Doesn’t Kris know that smoking anything will harm his voice? And it’s not like his voice is as strong as ****’s anyway so he needs to protect it as much as he can. And he’s setting such a bad example for the few fans that he has, especially since they all seem to be tweens who are so impressionable…

      • ross

(Sorry, my irritable My tone was in anticipation of “wank” rather than a direct response to your question, magnacarta.)

        • magnacarta

Oh, my skin is thicker than that. I did not take offense. To answer your question, what Pandora said.

        • Pandora

I was just doing my glambert imitation.

          • ross

            It was a good one.

    • jazz

So people out there in the “weirdmosphere” today are having problems with him 1) smoking a cigar and 2) perspiring?

    • barado

Is that Chris “Big Fish” Torres next to “Papa” Allen?

      • sj

        LOL barado!

This looks like it was taken around New Year’s when they were in Las Vegas.
What the heck is wrong with indulging in a cigar once in a while? I’ll tell you:
NOTHING is wrong with it. Enjoy, boys!

    • Lauren

I do hope he actually isn’t smoking that. Drugs are bad! It looks like he was just trying to take a silly picture though :)

      • magnacarta

LOL but even if he was, it’s not like he smokes daily. It’s New Year’s Eve, he can smoke one for special occasions ;)

    • Verbally Dyslexic

      Are those even real cigars?

      • Lauren

        LOL idk. Hopefully not?

      • Sara Elizabeth

Yes. There’s another photo I saw of Torres (the other guy in the picture) sitting down with smoke all around him. Lol

        • ross

I do hope he actually isn’t smoking that. Drugs are bad! It looks like he was just trying to take a silly picture though

          Tobacco isn’t drugs!

Um, this is a 25 year old man we’re talking about. or, 24 when this was taken (New Year’s Eve, right?)

…is this an issue? What kind of a country is this becoming??? Are the Health Nazis all over this? Next people will be excoriating him for drinking beer, I suppose.

          • magnacarta

I really don’t care, but nicotine is a drug.

          • ross

In our society, smoking a cigar is not generally considered “doing drugs”. That’s all I’m saying.

    • Kate123

This is the greatest thing I have seen all week. Torres looks like a drug lord.

      • sj

        They look awesome.

        • cc

Agree with you Kate123. But it’s missing of something…hmm…oh yeah, alcohol! for his other hand. Kurs Allon caught drinking AND smoking, I wonder what kind of wank would caused. Who’s boring now?! ;)

          • Nich

All he needs is a whiskey and he’d be set.

I personally hate cigars because they stink and I always seem to end up behind some guy puffing away on a big fat cigar while walking down the street. Now a pipe though…it reminds me of my grandfather which always makes me smile.

            ANYWAY! Cute pic.

          • ross

Fantasy continuation of the scene above:

….From there, they went to a strip club and did shots of Jack Daniels, lighting blunts with hundred dollar bills. Later, they paid hookers to come to their hotel and snort coke off their bare chests, while listening to a recording of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.”

          • margie

People are seriously upset about this? Come on. I think it is a funny pic. Look like mob bosses. Next thing you know we will have have people crying out for a Stamp-Out-Smoking ad on tv with kris’s face and a red line through it..

          • ross

Actual continuation of the scene above:

Katy told Kris is was getting late, and they all went back to the hotel and went to sleep.

          • cc

LOL. But ross, he’s not supposed to sleep… he’s offending those who have insomia. He’s insomiacaphobe. ::wink:wink::

(Did he also win in poker the same time? Now, that’s the picture I wanted to see. Kris smokin and drinking and gambling.)

    • margie

      Does this work?

      • deez

Where did these pics come from? Were they just posted recently?

      • magnacarta

HAHA, this made me love him a little.

      • Nich

Now I want to hang out with Latin Jesus, lol.

      • jazz

Glambert response: “Not only is he smoking and drinking, but he’s clearly endorsing the killing of animals for mere decoration by sitting on a zebra-print chair. The bad and arrogant influence of krabs allgon is apparent.”

        • Blue Eyes

Krabs Allgon is a BAD MOFO!!

      • naiya

Awesome pic of Torres. I mean, it would be better if they were looking wasted in a bar and making out with trashy girls, but I’ll take what I can get. I can definitely hear Sinatra in the background!

      • jmom376

        LOL. For some reason I find Torres hot. Have no clue why, but I love this picture. :}

    • jukejoint

I’m from a generation where all the boys smoked cigars when they played poker or went to bachelor parties or had babies. Am I the only one old enough to remember the cigars with the pink and blue bands around them, especially for new fathers? Even my neatnik, health-conscious boyfriend/fiance/husband used to smoke a cigar every once in awhile. Plus I worked at a company in the 80s where all the bigwigs’ offices were on the 7th floor and they would smoke cigars in their offices after 5:30. So if you stayed late after work and happened to wander past the 7th floor, you would be choking on cigar smoke. It was considered a symbol of power and coolness to be a cigar-smokin’ big wheel with an office on the 7th floor, right up there with getting to park in the special garage where they washed your car every day.

No, for me, for you, taking umbrage about a 24-year-old guy smoking a cigar once? Tempest, meet teapot.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I also have a photo on here of Adam Lambert taking a bong hit at BM, so if the concern trolls have an issue with the cigar…shut the frak up.

(This thread will not diverge into nonsense, but I was making a simple statement. Carry on.)

        • deez

Preemptive strikes are awesome :D .

  • Verbally Dyslexic

Saw this photo of Kris at Stir Cove and my first thought was that he looks like he’s trying to hold in his pee.

Now let’s see if I can embed so you know what I’m talking about.

Wow lots of Kris Allen fans are replying to me. Here's anothe... on Twitpic

    • Verbally Dyslexic

      Haha yes! :)

      • deez

Either that, or it’s a Mick Jagger pose. Sounds like he got a good response tonight from the comments @Mjs.

        • Verbally Dyslexic

I’m not getting how the fans on there are going ga-ga over the sweaty pictures though. I mean, a thin sheen is possibly hot on a guy, but that photo of Kris dripping in sweat is grossing me out a little. It’s like I can almost smell the stank, dude!

          • jukejoint

Don’t find the sweat attractive, personally, but it may explain why he wears all those button-down shirts — they may show the sweat less than the cotton t-shirts.

        • magnacarta

I’ll go with the Mick Jagger pose, because it amuses me.

The person who took that picture wasn’t even a fan. They still liked him even if the fans mobbed them to get the setlist and they thought the fans were extremely vicious lol

          • ross

deez, it also reminded me of a Mick Jagger pose when I first saw it.

Haiti: United Nations Gets a Helping Hand from American Idol Viewers

Donations from American Idol Special Episode with Kris Allen Keep Women Healthy and Safe

Washington, D.C. (Vocus/PRWEB ) July 8, 2010 — Thousands of Haitian women and young girls living in temporary camps will sleep safer under new solar street lights that are being provided through the generous donations of American Idol viewers. More than $250,000 was raised for the United Nations Foundation during the special American Idol episode with Kris Allen in February of this year. The UN Foundation has granted the money to the United Nations Population Fund to provide energy efficient street lights, as well as emergency health kits to help pregnant women deliver their babies safely when they can’t reach a hospital or clinic or don’t have access to those facilities….

Rest of the press release is here:
    http://www.prweb.com/releases/unfoundation/haiti/prweb4238394.htm

I was touched that Kris wanted to go to Haiti and sacrificed his first appearance back on American Idol was focused on raising money for Haiti and not promoting his album/single. At the same time I felt bad Idol didn’t provide him an opportunity this year to promo his album, how well “Live Like We’re Dying” is doing, and the opportunities he’s had. Even Allison was just latched on when she should do it on a non-Idol Gives Back-related day. Both Adam and Danny got to promote themselves on American Idol, which gave them big boost in album sales. The $250,000 raised from Kris’s appearance is helping the people of Haiti, and I’m glad to hear it :)

    • ross

      Thanks for sharing that.

  • gracefulally

I was there. My album from my crappy camera is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gracefulally/sets/72157624447949948/

And that’s my picture of him in a tank top that’s floating around: http://twitpic.com/23e1yh/full

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Welcome, Gracefulally! Thanks for the links.

I dig Kris Allen and all, but I gotta admit. I got more excited seeing the Screamin’ Eagle in the background ;)

      • gracefulally

        You’re welcome!

Screamin’ Eagle has always been my favorite to ride, which I was luckily able to do before the rain started and they shut it down.

Otherwise, I stuck around the Old Glory entrance for most of the late afternoon and had a front row seat. He came out to go to his radio interview and took pictures plus signed things. I thought some of the tweens were going to go into convulsions from utter hysteria, but they didn’t.

The hilarious moments during the concert were when Justin was still on stage and Kris came walking down to the backstage area which caused a stampede and interrupted Justin’s set (it was a “wow, rude” moment but still hilarious), Kris was going to sing Happy Birthday to one of his family members that he had just met that day but he couldn’t get her name right, and then right before he went into Come Together some girls started chanting “No Boundaries” which made him bend over giggling.

Otherwise, the concert was great. It was my third time seeing him. Could have done without the heat, though. Whew.

    • deez

Sweaty! What was the temp in StL yesterday?? Maybe I need to start going to concerts, lol, I could sweat off a few lbs. Seems as if he gets booked in hottest of hot, humid places.

      Thanks for the pics.

      • gracefulally

Mid 90s and HUMID HUMID HUMID!

  • wino

He’s coming to Los Angeles in a couple of weeks and I still havent decided who to drag to the show with me. The reviews have all been positive, so maybe I’ll just neglect to mention he’s an Idol champ. No, I am not embarassed to be a Kris fan, but I am slightly embarassed he was on Idol :)

    • Nich

I’m unfortunately going to a show by myself but I’m planning on having a damn good time. I was a little embarrassed to see Cook last year because I kept having to say “you know the guy that was on Idol” but now? Eh, I’m over it.

    • MissMyEm

Go alone if you have to. There’ll be a bunch of us from Los Angeles there. And a bunch are going to San Diego as well.

    • batshittery

Tell your friends he’s the guy who sings Live Like We’re dying. Seems like lots of people know the song but not the singer, from anecdotal evidence all over the internets. :)

  • AH

Here’s the STL Review. The headline is awesome and the review is much better than expected

    http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/music/reviews/article_0cf543ba-8ab2-11df-95bb-00127992bc8b.html

    • jazz

Thanks for the link. Good review!!

    • Lauren

I like how all the reviews I have read recently have mentioned the failure of the S9 tour while our S8 Idols are still going strong :)

    • naiya

I wonder if Kris will ever be able to escape the “bland” label. He and his band are fairly high-energy and their performances seem to be in line with other acts in their genre. Maybe he could bring some puppies on stage and kick them? Or if he can’t stomach that, maybe he could get tatoos all over his body of other people kicking puppies?

      • jazz

It’s funny — some say he’s too nice & too bland, then the glittercows think every little thing he does is evil. When he tried the Filipino delicacy called “balut,” they freaked out & you would have thought he dismembered a live chick during his performance.

        • deez

“Evil Kris”, LOL, perhaps he needs that on a tee shirt. He is “bland” because that’s the label he was given during the show, that’s what people expect. I don’t see how Is it Over, the 2 mashups he does, Come Together, Paranoid Android or Maybe could be called bland. Maybe a couple of the songs off the album are…but I don’t think he, himself, is. I think he has quite a bit of personality. Of course there are no explosions, or guitar smashings, or drunken binges, or arrests…so I guess that’s what the people want?

          • ross

I want Kris to trash his hotel room!

The reviewer said some of Kris’s songs “were likable enough, if in a bland way. But that sums up Allen overall.” That was the only negative thing he said in the review. But it grates, because Kris isn’t bland. Actually, he takes relatively simple music and makes it memorable and surprising and interesting. It’s mainstream, but I have no problem with that. To me, he has a bit of a mainstream jazz musician’s quality, as an arranger and singer. It’s more subtle and nuanced than a lot of rock music is.

And no, his personality isn’t bland. I don’t even need to go into that.

  • MissMyEm

A bit off topic, but Kris is going to perform for the troops. Like him or not…Kris is a class act.

I hope the STL paper gives him a decent review. So far he’s gotten good ones. I have two weeks to go for my show.

  • songkat7

I can’t wait for tomorrow night! Kris plays in Chicago tomorrow twice, once for free at noon by the Hancock Building, and then at night with the Barenaked Ladies and Angel Taylor.

  • Pandora

I know this is totally off-topic, sorry TI, but YAY! YAY! YAY! Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton FINALLY got Emmy nominations!

  • STLCin

I got to see Kris yesterday 8) My son (15) and I got a pic with Kris, but I hung back and let the young girls chatter, that sort of thing is a much bigger deal for them. It was about two hours before the show and I just happened to be near one of the Old Glory exits having a smoke break and he came out of the bus to visit with some of the fans that were hanging out there. The concert was excellent. Both my husband and son said they were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Although the sound at Old Glory Ampitheater leaves something to be desired. Just as in the past three concerts I have attended there, there was a definite rattle in one of the left speakers. Regarding Justin Gaston opening for Kris, honestly, I really didn’t think he was bad. He sounded much better than he did when I saw him on Idol.

You’re spot on about the Batman TI, although the Evil Kneivel is right up with it as far as enjoyable coasters. It’s a very smooth ride, especially for a wooden coaster.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

The Evil Kneivel…would you be talking about the SCREAMIN’ EAGLE?

      • STLCin

Nope it’s fairly new…I think a few years ago. Although the Screamin Eagle is still dear to me.

  • oddgirl

Reportedly Kris got mobbed and/or chased by screaming girls before his concert. But, if I’m going to be shallow here, can’t say I entirely blame the girls, since there are several photos posted on twitter from this gig that show him in a tank top as well as being all nice and sweaty up on stage.

As for the reviewer from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch who was there, I remember him giving a positive review about Kris before (can’t rmember if it was for the album or for LLWD), so I’m hopeful Kris will get a decent review for this show, anyway. I’ve seen him a few times now, and he is fantastic live.

    • Paulie

That tank top pic is hot. We should send that to the tabloids and maybe Kris won’t be as “upset”. :P

    • rehabilitard

At least they were girls, not Sparkle Cows. :)

  • deez

Tweeters say a reviewer was in attendance, and that he seemed unenthusiastic. I don’t expect too much in the way of positivity there. Oh well, I just hope nobody sends complaints to whichever paper he happened to be with, calling for his head.

    • STLCin

Just went through the Post from cover-to-cover and no mention of the concert at all. I also checked STL today and nothing on the web site either. So either they chose not to print, or it will be up later.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Please tell me you also remember “The Fat Lady Fling.” The standup roller coaster which resided briefly at 6 Flags in the early 80s, until a large woman fell out of it and how its been rumored ever since that her husband pushed her.

        • STLCin

HAHAHA My son and I were discussing that just yesterday. I was lamenting the fact that I never got to ride it because of one fat broad and her possibly sinister husband.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I think anyone who was alive (and cognizant) then brings up The Fat Lady Fling upon going to Six Flags, no? ;)

          • STLCin

Very true. I worked there for three years, with my main stint being the Screamin Eagle. I can’t tell you how many times I had to try to convince a fat guy that he couldn’t ride in the front seat that there was one that he would be much “more comfortable ” in. Did you know that all of the wooden coasters have a “fatman seat”? I think the only thing worse than one determined big fella making me help him hold his gut to close the lap bar was telling a pregnant lady that she shouldn’t ride…but she wasn’t pregnant. That was the epitome of discomfort at 17.

          • jmom376

I remember the Fat Lady Fling. It was a cool roller coaster before the fling.

I use to love the Screamin Eagle until I got stuck on it (I was skinny). Our Lap Bar got stuck and they couldn’t lift it up. So they made us ride it 6 times in a row (by ourselves) until they could fix it. Not only was I embarrassed, I was scared to death the damn bar would decide to pop open as we were screamin through the air. I guess they were worried about that too since they wouldn’t let anyone else ride with us.

Besides that, I love all of the rides at Six Flags and I have very fond memories of the Concerts.

  • Lauren

I really wish I had seen him when he came to Six Flags in New Jersey because that was the only date which would have worked for me. When he is coming within minutes of me, I will be up in Boston. And then I doubt my parents will drive me to the show in Pittsburgh since I am being driven to Richmond 2 days before for Glam Nation. :/

    • Kate123

I realize that I’m kind of spamming right now, but I totally know what you mean. I was like ughhh I’m never going to see Kris live because he has no dates in Canada, but then when I was visiting my Mom I told her that I needed to borrow her car for the day to run errands and I left the country with my friend and we saw him at Darien Lake.

So basically what I’m saying is that you should steal your mom’s car. (I accept no blame if this plan fails.)

      • Lauren

That would be so illegal. I only have my permit which means I would have to find a friend over 21 to go with me and I wouldn’t be able to drive out of state. LOL! Actually by August I may have my license, so we shall see :)

      • magnacarta

LMAO, you’re terrible. (I would have totally done that if I had 1) my passport, and 2) a driver’s license.)

It’s weird though… David Cook and Adam Lambert are both with RCA, and they have/will play in Canada. Kris Allen and David Archuleta are both with Jive and they are not playing here. I have no idea if that’s coincidence or not.

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Jive is clearly prejudiced against the Canuck peoples.

          • magnacarta

What can I say? I love my silly conspiracies ;)

    • DeeDee

Lauren it wouldn’t have been worth it because he only played a very short set (35-40 minutes). I was upset about that so I’m thinking of seeing him in August-I’m going to be in Cape May anyway. I’ll have to convince my husband, but it’s my birthday that day so I should get what I want right?

      • Lauren

        Aw that sucks. :(

Does your husband not like Kris?

        • DeeDee

No he likes him, not as big a fan as I am though. I haven’t mentioned going because I feel kind of stupid since we did just see him in May. My husband actually brought up going to Atlantic City so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind. I guess I just worry I’m turning into some kind of nutty fan following Kris from show to show!

          • Lauren

I am going to a second Glam Nation, so you are just as sane as I am. xD
