Idol Quickies: June 28, 2010

2010 June 28

Back by popular demand…Idol Quickies! (Now let’s just see if I can keep on track with these.)

From the HOW IS THIS NEWS category. Adam Lambert tells KC101 he plans on releasing his second album in fall 2011. A lot of Glamberts are squeeing about this, but isn’t this just sort of…intuitive? New artist finishes tour for first album and returns to the studio to work on second album? Isn’t that how it works? Especially after a first album? Am I the only one who assumed he probably has already been thinking about his next album and planned on recording & releasing it in 2011? (Best part of the interview is when he says he’s learned to love his Glamberts.)

Yesterday marked the final performance of the Hair revival, starring Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo. There was even a Hair eParty commemorating the occasion. Dude. I thought they all got naked at the end of this thing. Damn. Another missed opportunity to see Ace Young nude.

Lee DeWyze is writing stuff for his “first” album. We also know Kara DioGuardi is doing something for it. This cannot end well.

EW’s Michael Slezak did a kick-ass special edition with La Princesa del Mariachi, Allison Iraheta. There’s a bonus acoustic version of Holiday. And that’s pretty much ALL I need to say about that one.

Kris Allen performed at Golden Gate Park yesterday as part of the Alice Summertime event. I wouldn’t normally post this in Idol Quickies, but I was way too impressed by this live version of Is It Over. I swear this guy just keeps getting better and better the more shows he plays. Hell, I can’t even believe that’s the same guy from last year’s American Idol.

Spread the word. Do it.

    LOL! OK…THIS I like!!!!!! (Goofy>>>>>>Glam) co-starring Mama Allen.

    • snapcracklypop

Saw that, and they’re so adorable being goofy. Feel like I might as well post these from the official site.

DELETED FOR SIZE/CONTENT — Just b/c we’ve seen these before and they’re too big (wide) for the comments thread.

      • cc

Awwww for all the pics! (Sorry, can’t help it. :) )

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

These have been seen before. Also, please resize images before posting in the comments.

    • margie

      I love this Adam.

      • Salleyanne

David Cook did the same thing with the pen two years ago on the idol tour.
        What a copycat that Lambert!

    • erinnthered

Now, these people I like. I met Adam’s father at the Indio show. He’s a nice guy, very proud of his son, and very understanding of his fans.

  • snapcracklypop

Don’t know what it was, exactly … maybe the huge crowd on Sunday at Golden Gate Park … maybe the setting … maybe the weather … maybe the other performing groups … or maybe it was all of that, but Kris Allen was really good.

Excerpt from this review of Kris’s set in San Francisco.
    http://idol.blogs.pressdemocrat.com/11770/kris-allen-in-gg-park/

Whoa, I just saw this tweet from someone who’s currently at Kris’s Fresno show.
“This crowd is more epic than all of the Adam crowds I’ve experienced combined.”

I have yet to have yet to go to a headlining Adam show, but it’s nice to see such positive response from Kris’s San Francisco and Fresno shows :)

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Read this entry, too. (What paper is this, btw? Weird blog)

      http://idol.blogs.pressdemocrat.com/11737/kris-allen-adam-lambert-link-will-it-ever-be-broken/comment-page-1/#comment-2382

Scroll down to the comments and see JEAN DESANTO.

      • snapcracklypop

I find it strange that all or most of the comments on a Kris concert review are not even fans of Kris. I don’t get it.

      • deez

How do they still have time to stalk Kris articles what with following Glamnation, purchasing Top Hats, and gasming all over the damn place?

        • margie

I have always wonder this also. I just don’t get it. It’s like they have him on google alerts or something. If they hate him and he is such a failure why follow him? I am believing logic and Glambert mindset don’t connect.

          • deez

I think the idea is that if they bombard the comments on any article about Kris with negativity, that random people who are considering attending a show( but aren’t necessarily fans of Kris or AI), will see how “terrible” he is and give his show a wide berth. Then they will all have had a hand in ruining his career. (not that he has one anyway, according to them) Good reviews like the ones from SF will not go untouched. The writer will be called a hater or a homophobe or something. *sigh*

        • ross

Even if you knew nothing about Kris, wouldn’t you know those comments were cuckoo? I wouldn’t worry about anybody taking any of this too seriously, and they sure aren’t going to ruin Kris’s career.

          • deez

I don’t think they will…but I really believe they think so. Which means means they’ll probably never stop. On one hand, it’s hilarious, on the other….annoying.

          • margie

But that doesn’t work because they mention who they wonted to win. Again the logic is epic fail to me.

We have reviews from SF? Links?

          • barado

These anti-Kris commenters sound a lot like any other comment-trolls you see around the internet (except, they sound even less educated), so I think anybody who’s at least semi-computer-literate can spot them for what they are.

            Jean DeSanto = KK?

        • margie

Oh I read on twitter..I know the..GOSPEL.. DJs calling them crazier than Beiber fans. That can’t be cool. 16 yrs vs upper aged ladies. I am being nice :)

      • ross

ETA: I think the trolls are feeling threatened because Kris is getting attention and moving beyond Idol. Their whole raison d’etre is his Idol win and telling people he didn’t deserve it. If he leaves Idol behind, he leaves them behind, also.

        • ross

          Jean DeSanto = KK?

I think “they” are all KK.

          • cc

I think “they” are all KK.

MTE. LOL. Or maybe her “relatives”. ;)

      • erinnthered

Idiotic article. “Jean Desanto” is gold, though.

      • Salleyanne

Go back and see the post that Sammie made. “Jean Desanto’s” head will probably explode.

        • ross

          I couldn’t find Sammie’s post…

          • Salleyanne

I wonder if they put him in mod. It was there when I looked but it’s gone. Maybe it will be back.

I copied it because it was great.

            “June 29th, 2010 5:31 am
To bad that when Kris Allen gets positive press the trolls appear.

Jean De Santo you do realize that “American Idol Vote Scam” has been proven to be bunk by a bitter Lambert fan with no actual proof to anything that was published. If you are “still upset” about Lambert’s loss on AI after all this time, you really need to get a life. It was a TV reality show. Get over it and quit bashing someone trying to make his own way in the music business. True he will never be Adam Lambert, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Kris is an amazing performer, just not the same as Lambert. There IS ROOM FOR BOTH. Get over it. You’re negative comments won’t stop the fact that, just because you may not like Kris Allen, a lot of people do. Suck on that!

            by Sammie”

Sorry I don’t know how to do quotes. LOL

          • ross

It’s weird how that got modded, but the crazy, Kris-and-his-family-are-all-evil-conspirators stuff, doesn’t.

            To do quotes, you put

at the start of what you want to quote, and

            at the end.

          • ross

Oh, my god, sorry. You put “blockquote” in brackets <>, at the beginning of the quote, and then “/blockquote” in brackets at the end of the quote.

          • old bat

I just looked at the post, and I see both the quoted post and another follow-up by the same person, Sammie.

    • jazz

I’ve never understood the logic behind the whole “homophobia kept Adam from winning” argument. He made it to the FINALS! He was the runner-up. How homophobic could the voters have been to get him there? Did America suddenly develop homophobia in the week between the top 3 & the finals?

      • ross

I know, I’ve said the same things myself.

        • Salleyanne

Thanks ross. Will try it the next time.

      • Pandora

Logic is not a strong point for the Glamherd.

      • old bat

No, the American public didn’t suddenly get homophobia, but those who did suffer from that complaint were able to do something about it for the first time. Not to say that it was the DECIDING FACTOR OMG, but there were a lot of elements coming together to make a perfect storm of win practically inevitable for Kris.

        • ross

What an insult to Kris that is.

          • old bat

Hardly. Among the elements contributing to his win would be the people who love him and his music. Every contestant who gets voted onwards, including Kris and Adam and Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta, has people with different motivations voting. When Lil Rounds got unvoted off, a number of people stopped watching as well because they were no longer represented in the cast.

          • old bat

Which is to say, in fewer and clearer words, I didn’t feel it was strange Kris won, because there are a lot of reasons for people to want to vote for him, for good or ill. Likewise, there were people voting for and against Adam for different reasons, whether because they didn’t like his style or they liked his (possible) sexuality (as Slezak said at the time, “possibly gay rights”).

To say otherwise would be sailing on the Nile on a paper boat. I say this as someone who tards over Kris fairly hard and doesn’t care much for Adam’s music.

          • ross

Adam wasn’t even out publicly at the time. You could argue a lot of people speculated Archie was gay and voted against him (since imo he’s more effeminate than Adam). Yet I never hear that brought up as the reason Cook won.

          • old bat

I keep saying, it’s not. It is one of many, many reasons. Can I say again, NOT THE DECIDING FACTOR OMG?

Neither Archie nor Adam are effeminate in any way. (Archie is to me a creepy man-child.) Adam was never really “in” except with the AI-related media, or not even that. It was on Vote for the Worst, he was “possibly gay ” in EW, and that other dude Billy something on tv, and pretty much talked about everywhere. Gay and gay-friendly fans talked about voting for him and getting others to vote for him as well, which makes up part of Adam’s non-music related segment.

Nobody not buying into the show’s official line (in which the Word of Simon Cowell is as the Word of God) was surprised by either Cook or Kris’s victory, just the media decided to run with OMG HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN for Kris because it made a good story.

Kris is a great musician, sure. So is Adam. But it’s odd if you believe that’s the only reason EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE ever votes for anyone on American Idol.

Ross, I think you’re a nice and sensible guy from your posts I’ve seen on here and mjs. Don’t freak out and get defensive. Nothing is all black and white.

Kris didn’t win because of the homophobic vote. There were a lot of things coming together fortunately for him, not least because his music got him to the final 2.

  • deez

Whew. Check out Kris’s concert thread @ Mj’s for a little fun. Tweeters are very snarky towards Justin and Thriving Ivory. Supposedly big wigs are there to check out JG, hopefully they’ll be impressed with That other guy instead.

Justin was boring and went on forever, Thriving Ivory apparently sounds live Simon, Alvin, and Theodore.

  • Paulie

Is It Over is amazing live. Love how Kris does minor changes in the phrasing and adds some words. Andrew’s guitar solo is of course amazing.

I see several Andrew shippers here! LOL! Count me in — though a Krandrale sandwich is much hotter (/tard… sorry TI :P ).

Allison is amazing as always. I’m on wait and see on the Kara+Lee collab. For all we know Kara luuurves Lee and will provide better material than NoBo or Open Toes. Carrie’s Undo It is great IMO, and her “Terrified” is not that bad either (then again I have the Kat McPhee/Zachary Levi version, and Chuck makes all things nice ;) ).

Adam’s album: well I hope he gets to do what he wants to do.

  • et

Dude, that performance was hot. If Kris was even almost taller than me I think I would have a crush on him :) . I really need to get to a show, they sound fantastic.

  • jeydawg

Lee and Kara, a match made in hell. *shudders* It will probably suck worse than NoBo, and that’s saying something. (Honestly, going back, NoBo isn’t THAT much worse than the other “coronation” songs, but still.)

I always, always love “Is It Over” live – it’s seriously not only one of the best songs on the album, but it’s also one of the best crowd pleasers, too – everyone LOVES the guitar solo and it translates well to a live show.

  • deez

SET YOUR DVR’S!!!!! MAD MEN MARATHON STARTS JULY 5th ON AMC!!!!!!!!!!

    • erinnthered

Gah! I don’t have a TV anymore! I guess I’ll have to follow along via DVD, and “other means.” ;)

    • Verbally Dyslexic

Are we going to have a Mad Men recap discussion? I would not be opposed, just saying… :)

I’ve been watching episodes back-to-back for the past week, and every so often, yelling at my laptop for Don not to mack on [insert name of skanky piece o' the day].

      • erinnthered

        I think TI said yes.

I hope you weren’t yelling about Rachel. She’s too good for him. I do like the girl from this season 3 too. How far are you?

        • Verbally Dyslexic

          Yay to recaps!

I liked Rachel, and yes, she deserved better. I’m on season 3 with 8 episodes to go. Don’t know which girl it is that you’re referring to, but I’m hoping it’s not Sally’s schoolteacher.

Oh god, it’s the schoolteacher, isn’t it.. :(

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

            Keep watching. Keep watching :)

  • deez

Funny… DJ from the last show takes revenge on KAB for taunting him about Mexico’s loss by eating their food.

    • ross

Lifehouse watching Kris. Saying he has a “sick voice.”

    • jeydawg

For some reason him putting his hands all over Kris’s Nutter Butters and the large amount of water bottles is cracking me up.

  • deez

Thanks to whoever it was that said Y98 plays The Truth everyday @4:30. LOL, listening to it right now at 4:39!

    • ophelia64

Yeah, I listened too, until about that time. Darn it. Sorry.

      • deez

It sounded good until the weird Pat Monahan bridge. Wish they were playing the album version instead!!!

        • ophelia64

Oh man. I thought you said it didn’t play. Why did I turn the radio off? Oh well, apparently I can listen tomorrow @ 4:30.

          • deez

Nope! Heard it @ 4:39!!! Heard Kelly Clarkson at 4;30! (added bonus!)

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I miss Casey Kasem and the LONG DISTANCE DEDICATIONS!

        • erinnthered

Rick Dees will never be Casey Kasem. Didn’t Casey still do the Long Distance Dedications for a while after he left the countdown?

    • MissMyEm

I have been hearing it a lot on KBBY B95.1 in Ventura. And they stream. I think I’m getting use to Pat’s bridge or maybe just resigned.

  • deez

    EEEEEEEEKKKKKK!

JustinMGaston In fresno. Going to open for kris allen tonight

I’m learning all kinds of things looking @Twitter, it will be interesting @Mj’s tonight.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

So THAT’S why Oskar just yakked a hairball. But I saw him prepare for the expulsion and said, “not on the rug, please?” and he managed to move his head over to the floor. My cat is wicked smart.

      • cc

LOL. Okay now, I have an image of Kris as Oskar and Justin as the hairball. :D

I don’t know but if Justin do open for him tonight, Kris’s tweet tells so much how he really feels…

Gonna be playing at The Tower Theater tonight in Fresno with @thrivingivory.

        • muzikizmi

LOL. I didn’t catch that. Soooo funny. :)

          • deez

            HAHAHA!!!!

        • muzikizmi

Remember when Kris tweeted that stranger than usual tweet about ‘Deal or No Deal’ what a great idea (or something like that)? I never thought he was talking about the TV show. I hope he got something good in exchange for Justin.

          • margie

We are talking 19 here so I think no.

  • deez

Awwwwww. Our fearless leader is getting hit on by lawlers!

greenmelinda An attorney-cop from Southie named Bill W. asked me out for a beer. Oh, Colonnade Pool, don’t you never lose your charm.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I also wanted to point out the part it was a Bill W., just like the founder of AA (i.e., friends of Bill W.) and how he asked me to get a beer with him. Heh heh.

Last year, Kris Allen played a concert at the Colonnade Pool. That would have been a lot of fun to see.

  • CayKat

My posts here have been whack today but, anyway… I want to meet that guy, at least, I think it’s a guy, who went nuts and started jumping around like he was possesed, or as some churches on my island rock like to call it, “feeling the spirit”, while Kris performed. He’s my kinda people :-)

  • Mary

WOW that was the best Kris performance ever!!! It was really good!!

P.S. Andrew is so much hotter than Cale!

    • Mary

The performance was very bluesy and soulful. He should do a blues/rock album in the future.

      • CayKat

Andrew is extremely hot. best looking guy in the band.

        • auntieaimee

Yes, Andrew is very, VERY cute.

    • muzikizmi

Mary, I agree that Andrew is hotter than Cale. Andrew doesn’t seem to be quite as nerdy as Cale, but both of them are quite hot. The Latin Jesus is also smokin’, and there is even something sort of sexy about Ryland, in a near-albino kind of way. If the band weren’t so ridiculously talented, we might think Kris just picked the biggest chick magnets who applied for jobs.

      • snapcracklypop

Apparently, TV Squad thinks so to:

There, Allen and his band, who are each as good-looking as they are talented musicians, again displayed what this reporter saw from him four months ago at NYC’s Highline Ballroom. Without a doubt, Allen is a performer who thrives in a live environment.

        http://www.tvsquad.com/2010/06/28/kris-allen-cbs-radio-expo-video/

        • deez

          BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is ONE (1) comment on there!! From a Glambert! They get to the comments before the Kris fans once again. “We aren’t fanatical!!! They CHEATED!!!! ”

          (Still irony-challenged, I see)

          • ross

Wow, it’s just sick how fast the psychos come out to play. Obviously their rep precedes them, or the writer wouldn’t have made the “fanatical” comment.

        • cc

They *really* must do a photoshoot done by a pro with the whole band. It doesn’t matter what they wear (tight shirt and jeans are totally ok!) or what poses they do (dorky pictures FTW!) pretty sure fans (read: esp. ME) will love it. I mean, c’mon, they wasting so much pretty… ::sigh:: // greedy fan

        • JaneRochester

Seeing Kris Allen live is, I agree, a fantastic experience. I got to see him almost a month ago, and I’m ready to go again. If you get a chance, TopIdoloonies, do it!

    • Lauren

Guys, where is Blacklisted? She needs to be defending her man! *sobs*

      • deez

You’d think her Cale-Dar would’ve drawn her here. He’s featured prominently. Where can she be?????

        I agree with the Andrew-tarding :) .

        • justpeachy

No one is hotter than ET’s daddy!

          • muzikizmi

Kiss Almee is hotter than Cale.

          • muzikizmi

Darn. Nothing is working to get Blacklisted back.
            BL, where are youuuuuu?

          • ross

Ha. I met them and touched them and stuff. Hope yer all jellus.

          • deez

Alright now Ross. You know we think you’re cute and all, but you can’t just get away with anything. There Will be Ketchup.

          • ross

            Tomatophobe.

          • deez

            :)

    • jeydawg

I feel like I have to jump in here too – Cale’s a LOT hotter when he actually has hair. His hotness factor went down like 10349230423 percent when he shaved his head :( He used to be the hottest.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Ok. No more debates over who is hotter. Please?? Pretty please? For my sanity? :)

  • deez

    *tapping fingers restlessly*

    Waiting on Jambajim’s Kris interview.

    • CayKat

same here. just read he usual “teaser” tweets.

  • OvenMitt

Lee Dewyze and KaraDioGuardi creating music together is a sure sign of the apocalypse. Lee tards have been whining, “But Kara has written songs for Carrie and P!nk and this Idol and that Idol! Jason Delrulo!”. Yeah, and most of those songs have sucked ass. What’s your point?

    • Pandora

Seriously. I heard Carrie Underwood’s new song (I guess) “Undo It” this weekend and good lord, that song is shit.

      • MissMyEm

I’m not a big Carrie fan, but I’ve always thought her songs were good. When she performed at the Finale, I thought…bad song. Later it was announced that Kara helped write it and I thought….well duh…there ya go. Not a good song at all.

    • J

Kara is like the kiss of death. I was so glad that the song she wrote with Cook ended up being used by another artist. God help Lee if the first single from his album is a Kara co-write.

  • Lauren

Woot, Idol Quickies! Just in time ;)

  • FreeDavidCook

Well uh, duh on Adam thinking about a second album. He should be. Second albums are tricky, make it or break it time.

LMAO at the thought of a DeWheezy album. I hope they name if Fail Whale. Bet he’s the lowest selling Idol of all time freshman album.

    • muzikizmi

Lee doesn’t have an internet hate campaign being waged against him. So far, the people of Illinois haven’t all been called cheaters, so I expect him to sell more than Kris. It will totally tick me off, but that is what I expect.

      • Mary

I don’t know muzikizmi, AI9 has been constantly blasted by the media and everyone as the worst season ever. By the time Lee’s album comes out, no one will even care or remember to buy his album. Well, except the frau.

BUT if he does happen to sell more than Kris, it will probably be 85K, definitely not more than 100K.

My god, I’m beginning to sound like some of the posters at MJ’s with this album sales talk. I’ll stop now. :)

      • CayKat

I might actually shed tears if this proves to be true.

        • CayKat

sorry – that was actually meant to be a reply to muzikizmi

      • Lauren

Weren’t Lee’s single sales the lowest of any Idol winner? I seriously doubt his album will sell well. Sorry to any Lee fans, it’s just that there really hasn’t been much interest in Season 9.

      • JaneRochester

We’ve been called everything else, so I’m kind of surprised the “cheaters” label hasn’t emerged. As a fan of The Guy Called Lee, I hope he does well, crappy market or not. I’d be thrilled if he has a hit single, just so some of the people at MJ’s can kiss my ass.

I don’t track numbers so I don’t know (or care) which Idol does better than any other Idol. I just want them all to do well, because they work hard. And if it’s an Idol I particularly like (Cook, KA, Adam, Crystal, Casey or Lee) I want them to do that much better. I don’t ask for much.

    • songkat7

Interesting thing about Lee’s hometown…I have yet to hear his Idol single on radio here. Local rock station plays his pre-idol stuff but even the HAC station doesn’t play Beautiful Day.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I don’t listen to the radio much, usually only when I have a Zipcar. The last time I had one, I heard The Truth. I have yet to hear Beautiful Day on the radio. Then again, as I said, I don’t listen to the radio much.

        • muzikizmi

My local Top 40 station was one of the very first to play Live Like We’re Dying, but I don’t think they have played The Truth at all yet. :(

Kiss108 (Top 40) in Boston plays The Truth. It’s something like #22 on their Top 30.

I promise no chart talk, but if your station IS Top 40, it’s not really that surprising you haven’t heard “The Truth” yet – it’s not doing much on the Top 40 chart right now and probably won’t because it’s a song that’s FAR more suited to an HAC station (the song is doing very well on HAC charts). If you really wanna hear it, you should probably try switching over to an HAC station :D

I liked Lee, not gonna lie, but his single has been already falling on the charts. Sorry for the chart talk…my point being…I’m not sure if he is going to outsell Kris.

I agree. Less people were watching the show this year. Less people care about American Idol. This translates into fewer album sales. Tickets to the tour are selling miserably, even in smaller venues. Just based on this information alone, I think Lee and Crystal will sell a lot less then their predecessors.
