Idol Quickies: May 07, 2010

2010 May 6

Your new must-read blog.
Nick Mitchell (aka NORMAN GENTLE) has a new blog
. And you should read it, because Nick/Norman is a genius. He also knows Nigel Barker. Check out Norman’s new single, Brit Slap. Did I mention Nigel Barker is there?

I need to meet this guy. I really, really do.
Gawker’s Richard Lawson wrote another funny recap of this week’s American Idol results show. I like Richard Lawson.

He should really be out promoting himself more.
Kris Allen went to Indianapolis as part of VH1′s Save the Music. He had his guitar. There were 1000 children. There are photos of Kris Allen with his guitar and Kris Allen surrounded by little children.

Does home schooling count as a tragic back story?
Little Aaron Kelly chatted with EW’s Jessica Shaw following his Wednesday night elimination. He was homeschooled. He thinks all of his fellow contestants are talented. Whatever. You cannot hate on this sweet little puppy dog of a boy, even if he sang played out songs.

You can also check out MJ’s writeup of yesterday afternoon’s press call with Aaron Kelly. (She’s also compiled several of his post-show interviews with local Fox affiliates.)

I want there to be a song about BBQ
Anoop Desai released his first album, All Is Fair. You can download it. I need to give it a spin, as I was always kind of rooting for Anoop on Idol. He’s educated. I like the educated contestants more than the non-educated ones. Because I am a snob.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat: It’s okay when it’s Kelly
Kelly Clarkson — aka American Idol’s gold standard — recorded a little ironic quasi-electro pop ditty (likely aimed at that douchebag Ryan Tedder) called Wash, Rinse, Repeat. It was leaked. And its kind of fun, but she sounds good singing anything. (Except Already Gone. Me no likey that song.)

You can’t get much more loathesome than these two.
Last night, Kara DioGuardi went on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Kara DioGuardi. Jay Leno. I’d rather be dead. (And nice to see she’s already talking about who will make the final. But all the judges do that. Because they suck.)

Slezak. Siobhan. Siobhan. Slezak.
EW’s Michael Slezak sat down for a little Idolatry with Season 9′s sixth-place finisher, Siobhan Magnus.

Spread the word. Do it.

I have no clue where to put this but did you guys see the song list for tomorrow’s Idol? Cheesefest! I just emailed it to TI. All I have to say is… someone *definitely* needs to sing “Jai Ho.”

  • Lucky

Wow, look what happens when you stay off the internet for a few day, 500+ comments! Anyway, happy belated birthday TI and all the other May babies! Hope all had a great Mothers Day as well. I don’t know what to say about all this except I don’t want anyone to leave. I love this blog, I know its sounds pathetic, but I look forward to reading everyone’s posts here. Especially you, Deez. I love you and you are my hero. Also, I’m very sad because I finished Season 3 of Mad Men and don’t know what to do with myself. Now, I guess I’ll have to clean my house :(

    • jukejoint

I just got to NY. I love NY! I am thinking of doing my own little Mad Men tour over on, well, Madison Avenue. Anybody want to get to NY in the next four days and search for Mad Men landmarks with me?

  • Pandora

    Happy birthday, Melinda!

I’m only kind of sorry I missed all the drama this weekend.

  • kimberly

Happy Birthday, Melinda! Mine was on the 8th. Better to be a bull than a cow. Yes/No? A health issue with a close family member had me walking an emotional tightrope yesterday and the nonsense over Kris’ tweet had me seeing red, which triggered my outburst about Adam’s fans bringing him down. Marissa caught me at a bad time and maybe, under different circumstances, I would have just stepped away … maybe.

Happy Birthday again! Here’s to many more!

    • nerdgirl

      Happy Birthday, kimberly!

      • kimberly

Thank you, nerdgirl! Circumstances have postponed the celebrating.
        Hopefully next week. Fingers crossed.

    • Verbally Dyslexic

      Happy belated birthday!

      • kimberly

        Thank you!

        • et

Happy belated birthday, kimberly! My husband’s was yesterday, mom’s is tomorrow and brother/dad are on the 12th. My family is Taurus land :)

    • jmom376

Happy Birthday Kimberly! I am also a bull (May 3rd) and per my husband, quite full of it sometimes too

      • kimberly

Thank you! Another trait is stubborness. Happy belated birthday to you, as well.

    • leastofall

Wow, I missed a lot of drama. Damn you RL!! Eh, I wouldn’t have contributed anyways, I stay away from Adam related discussions. I just wanted to wish TI & Kimberly a very happy birthday. Especially wanna thank TI for this excellent blog she runs.

Also, I’m fairly new here and I’m sorry if I’ve contributed in spoiling the spirit of things. I know I’ve certainly contributed in bringing down the level of grammatical excellence ;) on this blog, cos my English sucks! I promise to cut don’t on my boring comments.

      • leastofall

        ARGH!! cut down

    • Pandora

Happy birthday to you too, Kimberly! I hope the crisis is over.

    • marissa

Hey, super-late, but I’m sorry about your family member. :( That’s always hard. And I liked Adam’s tweet defending Kris. :) That was much ado about nothing. I hope your family member is better.

      • kimberly

Thanks for the birthday wishes. Still not 100%, but the worry of cancer spreading has been abated. tahnks

  • MissMyEm

I said this in the Betty White thread, but I’ll say it here too. Happy Birthday, TI.

BTW…what happened to that video…the one with you on Skype, with Jim, Rickey and some others? Did I miss this week’s?

    • jmom376

      Happy Birthday TI!!

I have been MIA most of the day running around. Decided to take a small break from the computer and actually get some RL stuff done. I have decided when I start taking things to personally, I will just step away :} I am a Kris fan and not an Adam fan (but I usually do not comment on Adam too often). However, I do think people sometimes takes it to far on both sides all over the web. I love the snark that is here and plan to stick around. I promise to be a good newcomer. However, I cannot promise that I won’t grumble about a couple of BSC glamberts on occasion ;}.

Lauren: If you read this, I think you are very mature for your age and are usually the voice of reason. You have put me in my place a couple of times and I appreciate that (you don’t say it specifically to me, but it applies sometimes). I commend you for putting up with some of the stuff that you do as an Adam fan and sometimes find myself wanting to come to his defense for you (it must be the mother in me). BTW: I am a mom of a teenager, so I tend to stick up for them often…

  • Sherena

Reading some of the latest drama, here’s my opinion: the healthy snark has definitely devolved into sickening self-congratulation on some people’s parts. There are a lot of genuinely sane people here, but lately also a lot of over-invested fans who can’t distinguish between gently mocking insanity and obsessively attacking anyone from the “other side;” to wit, anyone who dares to like Adam or dislike Kris, who is immediately branded a “insane Glambert cow” and attacked accordingly. Hypocrisy is always the most annoying when it’s self righteous.

Disclaimer: I am describing the minority, and I still have a lot of respect for most of the regular posters. But some of the newcomers here have definitely spoiled the spirit of things. This is not meant to be a hub for all Kris-fans who want a place to gather and bash Adam-fans in that stupid old perpetual fanwar, under the guise of “mocking craziness”. At least, that’s not what it used to be.

    • Kate123

:) Very nice. Sometimes I think I probably cross the crazy line too, it’s good to get a reality check.

      • Sherena

Haha, thanks. I’m glad I got that out of my system at least.

Also, as far as I remember, you haven’t crossed the crazy line :)

      Thank you, Sherena!!!

I want to have a blog where everyone who wants to comment is welcome to do so. This is definitely not a “fansite” of any sort. Sane Kris fans and sane Adam fans are ALWAYS welcome :)

      • wino

what about Danny fans? IF they do exist? :)

        • rockpaperscissors

As a newcomer who has a full on snark for all things BSC fans,
I’ll take it that I am one of the newbies that have somehow changed the spirit of this place.
I love this blog and I enjoy the comments and fun but if the regular
posters feel that the newbies are bringing it down, I will take my snarkines and wave a fond farewell.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Don’t you dare! I love you. NO ONE IS LEAVING.

I think people are just a bit keyed up because of all the fanwaring as of late. Everyone just needs to relax and understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

And RockPaperScissors, I really enjoy your posts. So I will be pissed off if you go.

          • Sherena

I think I may have made a phrasing mistake there. I don’t mean that all newcomers are bad or that all regular posters are good. I just mean I’ve seen more of the behavior I describe, in general, among some newbies. Don’t leave because of me!

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I think I knew the ones you were referring to. And RPS isn’t one of them.

Can everyone just calm down now? ;)

          • Verbally Dyslexic

I don’t think anyone here wants anybody to leave. It’s just things have heated up lately and that always happens when more people start coming and commenting anyway. The dynamics change a little and we have to rein in each other a tad once in while. Everyone can have these disagreements, but it would be nice for people not to take things personally. Unless you openly tard here, because then you’re just asking for it! :)

      • naiya

Well, I would offer to leave except then nobody would try to talk me out of it and I would end up looking like a complete moron, so eff it…I’M STAYING, DAMMIT!

        • Lamberkitten

LOL! Naiya – I feel ya.

          • naiya

Yeah, at this point I’m just lucky nobody tried to talk me into leaving.

    • Mary

I totally agree sherena! Hopefully I qualify as a sane Kris fan. And I just became a new Adam fan when he told those damn sparkle cows to STFU!

    • Mary

      And Happy Birthday Melinda!!

    • ross

Well, I’m a newcomer. Hope I haven’t spoiled the spirit of things. I don’t think I’ve been guilty of “sickening self congratulation.” Anyway, thanks for the welcome.

      • Sherena

I regret mentioning newcomers, now that I realize my post could be read as a diss on all newcomers. There are plenty of truly awesome newcomers.

      • Sherena

Also I don’t think you’ve been guilty of sickening self congratulation either. :P

        • ross

Good, I hope not. I could always start, though, maybe it would be fun. :)

      • MissMyEm

Me too. I am a newbie. I have always thought of myself as sane. I think I tarded once, though.

        • et

LOL, sometimes a little tardish behavior slips out. And then it gets put away again :)

  • nerdgirl

Sorry, I just thought it will be best for everybody, especially for my own peace of mind. Sometimes, I have very low tolerance to pseudo-intellectuals with their circular logic and condescending attitude and can say something that I may later regret. In real life I just avoid this kind of people. I like it here, but I don’t want to offend anybody, so time out for me for a while.

    • jukejoint

Is it because I brought up Aristophanes? D’oh!

      • nerdgirl

No, not you… I love Aristophanes! Let’s talk about him… Anything, but the meaning of Adam Lambert

      • ross

I prefer you Arsitophanes fans. Those Aeschylus fans are so OTT.

        • jukejoint

Don’t even get me started on the Sophocles tards. Always tweeting the most awful things.

          • deez

LOL! Ancient Greek tards with the benefit of Twitter and the the internet.

We @AO (Aristophanes’ Oracle) are favored by the gawds!!! You other tards always like “OOOHH , Asskiles is soooo awesome!! Who the fuck is Aeschillyus anyway? He’s sooooooo bland and boring!”

Gahhhhhh^Did you see this??? It’s that damn Tesschylus again. I wish that Zeus would hammer her ass with a couple dozen lightening bolts!! And check out what I found posted at the agora today …yes, it’s our old friend, QIII, at it again!!!!!!

Here are the latest play attendance numbers: 12,502 for Aristophanes!!!! His plays are in demand as far away as Persia!!!1111!!!! Aristophanes also is releasing another new play!! (his FOURTH yay!!!!) Aeschylus is on his his second, and I hear they had to have Euripides come in and rewrite the second act.lolol!!11!

I would so give an urn of drachmas, and donate next year’s olive yield if they would just move to Sparta and STFU!!!11!!!

          • On The Edge

Well, according to Kerrius Kolischus, Aristophanes was totally ROBBED by Eurpides, with the help of Fallafel-Fil-A and Alpha Tau & Tau! It’s all in her latest scroll, “Aristophanes: Second to None, Not Even Homer!” Even Socrates would have to agree with her research culled from many hours of gossip at the baths!

          • DeeDee

LOL! Deez and Edge. *standing ovation* Also Happy Birthday Kimberly and TI.

          • deez

            Alpha Tau & Tau

LOLOL!!! They shouldn’t allow ONE SINGLE city-state decide things for everybody!!!! The last I heard, this place was a democracy!

          • nerdgirl

I haven’t laughed so hard for long-long time. You are really talented, deez.

And by the way, Saphho was the one who was totally robbed by all the male chauvinistic homephobes. I read it on Ypsiloteri Eidolo… Check it out

          • Verbally Dyslexic

            LMAO!!!

Guys, I know we’re all laughing right now, but knowing the Greeks, this can only end in tragedy…

          • deez

All the votes with the Lesbos area code were blocked!!!! Conspiracy!!! They said it was a girl’s year!!! (liars) I should’ve known it would turn out that way when I saw all that Euriphanes slashfic!!!!

          • deez

Guys, I know we’re all laughing right now, but knowing the Greeks, this can only end in tragedy…

No kidding! Somebody will put somebody else’s eyes out, or kill their mom, and then where will we be?

          • deez

What is wrong with me… I need to go to bed, lol.

          • cc

You, guys, are hilarious. Dang, this is the best read I had today. Thanks for the laugh!!1! :D

          • barado

This little conversation shows what a great blog this is. Thanks, TI, and happy birthday. Does anyone know of any good Socrates/Alcibiades fanfic, – actually, don’t answer that.

          • jukejoint

Deez wins the universe! Well, at least the Ancient Greek Universe. I’ll keep everything between Scylla and Charybdis, and Deez gets the rest.

          • Mithra

Guys, I know we’re all laughing right now, but knowing the Greeks, this can only end in tragedy…

Now that the bar has been lowered by Adumis Lamertikes, Constantine will be a mentor next year.

    • wino

oh no, dont leave. most of us feel the same way, we come here for the fun and mindless banter, not to get chastised for our gossiping ways.

Happy Birthday Melinda, hope you are having a couple of cocktails (or bottles ) on this day :)

      • muzikizmi

Chastising is even ok, it there is a quick end to it. Ongoing, relentless chastising is like a toothache that won’t go away.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I’ve wrecked my body this weekend, trust me :)

      • Lamberkitten

There is no reply button to comment under the post I want to reply to so this is the nearest reply button to it. It is Deezs post which starts off “LOL! Ancient Greek tards with the benefit of Twitter and the the internet”. LOL, that post made my life. And this is the sort of snark I love – the sort that is playful and recognises the batshit in all. I know there are some serious points to be made occasionally on our respective Idols but you have a fun and gentler handle on it all Deez. Very funny. I recently started to research Van Gogh online because of an interesting book I have been reading about him – I tiptoed straight back out of THAT world! There really is only so much BSC anyone can live with.

        • Mithra

There are Van Gogh tards? Any slash with Theo? :P

          • Lamberkitten

LOL! I stopped looking before I found any Incest Thread!

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

What is this uh “thread” that is being spoke of?

Wait. Nevermind. I don’t want to know. ;)

  • Kate123

Here’s a haiku I wrote to document what went down here.

    Why are we so mean?
Duh!-the web is made for that.
    Let’s all threaten to leave.

    • naiya

      Nice!

    • carmine2008

Your last line is wrong, there are 6 syllables instead of 5. Hahaha. :)

      • carmine2008

Oh, and I don’t know where to put this but:

        Happy Birthday TI/Melinda!!!

      • Kate123

Pshhh…I’m an ARTIST, i don’t follow the “rules”.

(I was hoping no one would notice)

  • kimberly

    Happy Mother’s Day to all!

Before I head out for the day, just had a few things on my mind. I thought it was odd that of all the things written on this blog about Adam, my posts seemed to have struck a nerve with Marissa. If I don’t like something Adam is wearing or if his makeup is too excessive or if the music is too campy for my taste, I say it. It has never been about hating Adam Lambert. It has been about the over the top fans of Adam Lambert when it pertains to the Music. I do honestly believe Adam has been “blessed” with some fans that could do great damage to his career and how the real world views him outside the IDOL bubble. Marissa said it was wishful thinking on my part. The only thing that I wish for is that the over the top Adam fans would stop with the hyperbole and see Adam for what he is in the real world: a very good singer. I think Marissa feels she’s succeeded in shaming all the Adam Haters, using group think mentality, “you guys”, using MJ’s words as ammunition, pointing fingers at those who aren’t always bowing at the Lambert altar. Marissa knows far more about Adam Lambert and is far more invested than she is revealing. There are some Kris Fans that feel free to come here and talk about Kris without recrimination. As Kerry K. pointed out the internet ranks of Allen fans are less than the ranks of Lambert fans. It’s more a refuge here for them from the ugliness out there. I like to talk music and I just fell into IDOL. No deep dark mystery there. I am curious to see if my Adam predictions come true, ie. Broadway bound. Either way I see success for him, so it’s not like I have it out for the guy.

Marissa, thinks I might be a nice person in real life. Here’s a message to Marissa: I’ve laughed at middle-aged women dancing and I had a good time doing it and I’ll probably do it again. Does that make me evil or nice?

  • rehabilitard

Wow, Marissa, you sound obsessed yourself. This is the best idol blog by the way. Take it easy. As your glittery master said: “It is not that deep”. Get a sense of humor too.

  • Lauren

Alright, so I would like to commend everyone on taking the chance to gang up on Marissa when I was away. I like how she is assumed to be a crazy Lambert fan when she repeatedly says that she doesn’t care if you like Adam or not. It’s funny because she’s so young, yet she is one of the more reasonable, level-headed, and eloquent people I have meant online. Just because I ignore everything doesn’t make me “saner” or less invested, it just makes me more passive.
So, I don’t know if Marissa is going to come back. I hope she does, but I am certainly going to take a break for a little while. Hopefully everyone will have calmed down by the time I get back.

    • kimberly

Lauren, I’m sorry you’re upset about Marissa. I didn’t care for her so-called reasonable attitude. I don’t know her. I don’t know how old she really is in the real world. I’m sorry you got hurt by this discussion.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I hope you and Marissa don’t leave. Plus you can’t do this to me…on my BIRTHDAY.

      • margie

        Happy Birthday TI!!

Lauren don’t leave and Marissa too.

        • nerdgirl

OK, how about I will leave. I need to go back to my days of blissful ignorance, when I did not know about world of fandom of any kind and enjoyed my opinions however wrong (not really, I am never wrong!) without strangers calling me names.

I will visit, TI, I promise, just not going to comment.

          Peace.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

But Nerdgirl, I love you. And it will make me sad if you don’t comment.

          • jukejoint

Nerdgirl, you better the hell stick around and post. You are HI-larious and I love your posts. I don’t, as a rule, like the whole gladhanding and backslapping (I love you! I love you more!) thing so I tend to appreciate in silence, so I hope you will forgive me for not telling you sooner that I have definitely appreciated your posts.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

            I always appreciate Nerdgirl’s posts. :)

      • rehabilitard

        Happy Birthday Melinda!

      • muzikizmi

        Happy Birthday, TI!

    • laila

I’m not sure why disagreeing with her and pointing out the flaws in her multiple, lengthy arguments is “ganging up” on her. But perhaps she is better suited for an Adam fan board where there is no hate at all, against Kris or Adam, since mocking or making fun of people is so bewildering to her.

      • deez

I certainly don’t want anyone to leave! I don’t think anyone should be offended by snark. I think what is bewildering is when people start to take it personally and get bent out of shape. (like over Kris’s recent tweet, or someone making a general observation). When someone says something about an Idol, if you are invested to the point where it gets you hot under the collar (especially during a reasonable discussion) then you probably have lost all objectivity. Maybe it’s impossible for the 2 fanbases to have a reasonable discussion at this point. I’ve been hanging out here for over a year, and IMO, it is the best AI (and general pop-culture entertainment) blog. Melinda’s articles are always well-written and funny, and for the most part, the commenters are smart, funny, and insightful. It would be a shame for TopIdol to become Mj’s part 2.

        • wino

amen deez. i come here to enjoy the snarky articles and the (generally) good humor of the posters. lets leave the crazy fanwarring that happens on other blogs…on other blogs.

    • blacklisted

Stop the collective PMSing! All of you girls are pretty! ;-)

But seriously, Lauren can’t flounce. I mean, who’ll teach me how to block quote if she does?

Marissa and nerdgirl need to also stick around. Let there be disagreements, whatevah, at least the differing viewpoints make things more interesting. Aren’t we all thankful that this place is not MJs or TwoP? Politically incorrect, blunt, it’s all good.

      • deez

Me and you BL, great minds, lol!!!

        • naiya

I agree…at least it’s fun and interesting here. There have been disagreements in the past and there will be disagreements in the future, and I can’t promise that I won’t mock the use of “glam” as a pre-fix, but I will promise to make fun of everything I can just for the sake of equality. Oh, and Happy Birthday, TI!

    • MissMyEm

Lauren, for me it’s not that the point that Marissa was “ganged” up against. I don’t mind someone trying to make a point. What troubles me is someone trying to make that point incessantly because to me it starts to appear like someone is trying to convince the masses to think the way they think. I too am sorry you feel hurt, but Marissa should have stated her point once or twice…maybe even three times and let it go.

I value everyone’s opinion whether I agree or disagree. I am sure several disagree with me on my opinion of this year’s Idol and that’s absolutely fine. It’s just the reiterating over and over and over that bothers me. It won’t change my opinion of anything. I’m old enough to know my own mind. As a matter of fact…I’m old enough to know I may dance funny to someone year’s younger, even though I still think I’m a helluva good dancer for a dinosaur.

      • naiya

        A Shakemymoneymakerosaurus? I love those.

    • Sherena
Just because I ignore everything doesn’t make me “saner” or less invested, it just makes me more passive.
That’s the wisest thing I’ve read on an online forum for a while. Love you Lauren.

      • Sherena

Although apparently my love makes me incapable of remembering html.

Hi Lauren – I don’t count myself amongst the coolest of Adam fans . I only know two – of which you are one – so you are sorely needed here. But take all the time you need. I love you :)

Marissa – I didnt read all the stuff in this post but enough to get a good idea. Fan-warring can be quite good fun if you don’t take it TOO seriously. I used to myself at one point but aaaaah….its easier and wiser to laugh at it all. And really when you think of it objectively, reasonably and with a sound mind – its just Krazy Kristards getting bored…. forgive them – it must get SO dull for them at times…….zzzzzzzzzzz……..oooh sorry dropped off for a minute there – Kris has such a soothing effect on me. But I do love him, I really do. And I won’t say that I bought a gazillion of his album just to prove it – cos I didnt even buy one copy – so you can trust my word.

The best thing about Lamberkitten’s posts is that they always sound better than everyone else’s when you listen to them in your head, b/c you just hear her soothing British accent.

        • Lamberkitten

LOL! Yeay! SOMEONE took my bait. Hey cmon TI – you know I was just joshing about Kris for the lulz. Kris is as cool as f*ck – I cannot lie. And if the recent bit of Kradam fanfic that someone kindly sent me today is to be believed – a REAL dark horse. :)

But if it has to come down to Kris vs Adam – then Adam will always be TOP!

    • marissa

Lauren, I don’t know if you’ll get this, but you are awesome. :) I really admire how intelligent and sweet you are.

Hmm the new posts are showing up on the second page instead of up top.

  • rockpaperscissors

    Marissa,

Again, what MJ said about you guys is true: “You and your friends are as obsessively fangirlish as anybody you criticize. Lack of self-awareness for the win!”
You guys are just as crazy as the people you don’t like, and you can’t see it. Weird.

But our craziness is a result of the actions of the Glambuldge loving brigade. I for one am sick and tired of going to every blog, forum and article relating to Idol to find that it has been taken over by the Glamberts and their delusional opinions and hate. I am sick of the Glamberts turning ever positive Kris article into a sparklefest of hate and BSC lies about him and his career. I am sick and fucking tired of the fake concern and outrage that you and your Glittery posse vomit over every little twit and comment from Kris. I am sick and tired of the Glamberts posting huge ass posts and stats- do you really think it will make me love Adam and some how convert me. I hate Adam mostly because of the actions of his BSC fans – I was a fan of his while he was on Idol but between his actions and his stans, I was completely turned off him.

And Marissa and her endless smug, self-righteous posts are even MORE obsessively fangirly and lacking in self-awareness than any of the people she is accusing of being obsessively fangirly and lacking in self-awareness. Maybe it’s because I grew up in the snarky 70s when satire (National Lampoon, SNL, etc.) was such an art form, but I like mocking. I like snark. It’s what Television Without Pity was founded on, btw, except you’re supposed to be making fun of the shows and the people on them and not other posters. Here, we get to make fun of the crazy fans if we want to, and you know what? I want to! How can you not make fun of someone like Idoltard10? I still suspect s/he isn’t real and was only created as a mockable artifice.

Marissa is all flush with that 20-something arrogance we all had in college when we thought we knew everything. So why do people need to dislike or make fun of others? Honey, ask Aristophanes. Oh, he’s been dead since about 380 BC. But he made sature a theatrical form and maybe even got Socrates killed because of how badly he ridiculed him, and it’s been going on ever since. Jon Stewart is making an art form of it four nights a week. Comedy is the best revenge, you know? But Marissa can’t see how the ENTIRE world is not going to change just because she would prefer that people weren’t so snotty or that they didn’t pick Her Favoritest Boy Ever or Her Favoritest Boy Ever’s Most Insane Fans as a target of ridicule. It’s not going to change no matter HOW FREAKING LONG her posts are or how many people she insults while getting all huffy and puffy and yelling about how it’s wrong to insult people.

Sorry, Marissa. I know it would be lovely to rule the world, or at least get to tell us all what to do and how to behave. I guess you’ll need your own blog for that.

      • wino

your rant cracked me up :) i think i love you. i just bought Colbert’s I Am America for the very same reason i enjoy this blog….it is full of wonderful wit and snark. i guess some people are sitting too comfy on their high horse to come down to reality.

      • naiya

Ha! Yes, trying to convince older, snarkier, more cynical people to be less old, less snarky, and less cynical is definitely an uphill battle.

      • parsenip

One of the first comments Marissa made on this blog was a convoluted off-topic dissertation on why Lambert has more emotional connection to his songs than Kris. These two guys have nothing in common musically, stylistically, or artistically, so the only reason to make that comparison is to provoke a fanwar. And then a couple days later she comes backs and successfully jacks an entire thread by commenting ad nauseum about how “weird” and “confusing” fanwars are. Another day, another Glambertroll. What else is new.

        • vtu

Yeah, I was just thinking that IF she was trolling, it was a very successful effort. Not very often that you can single-handedly take over an entire post and actually get a couple of members to threaten to leave.

        • muzikizmi

The members are left pointing fingers at other members, so yep. If she was trolling, she won. It has now become an ‘I am more detached than you are’ battle among a board that was very peaceful before her arrival.

        • marissa

It wasn’t off-topic. :( There was a multiple-post discussion going on about how a lot of people here liked Kris because he was more connected to music than Adam. I was giving my opinion on why I liked Adam–he is emotionally connected to music. Nothing in that discussion was a fan war thing–the people who liked Kris more were being perfectly reasonable, and I think I was too. :)

Idol fans need to lighten up and get a sense of humor. Nobody should take any of this stuff seriously. The people that are having mental breakdowns over this stuff maybe need a life and stop being so naive. Any Idol or entertainer is going to be judged either negatively or positively. You either deal with it or go to the sites where everything is puppy dogs and rainbows, or stay off the net.

    • muzikizmi

I don’t think anyone has a problem with Adam’s fans being fangirlish (except for that body part that won’t be mentioned).

Speaking for myself, I only have a problem with the Adam fans who feel that it is their G-d given purpose to ‘send Kris back to Arkansas’.

Oh, and yeah, I do have a bit of a problem with Adam’s fans who are OK with Adam being gay, as long as Kris can be gayer. That sort of signals a lack of acceptance of Adam as he is.

They can ____ and ____ and those other words we can’t use, forever more, and I don’t care.

I have to say, that if that is what MJ thought it was about, she missed the whole point.

Happy Mother’s Day for all the Moms!! I hope your kids spoil you today!!

Happy Mother’s Day everybody! Give your mama a hug.

Marissa, Thank you for the concern about my ability to be self aware. But I think I’ve got it covered. I am self aware enough to know that I prefer certain types of voices, looks, personalities and musical genres over others. I am self aware enough to know that I enjoy chatting about those things that I do like and yes I even enjoy chatting about the things I don’t like or appreciate. Because well I’m human and therefore occasionally I love a good bitch fest about the things that annoy me.

I know that pretty much every blog, article or forum discussing Idol will be overrun with OTT Adam fans if I try to discuss Kris or any other male in the universe in a positive light. I will be told over and over again how if I just gave Adam and his music a fair chance I would realize that he is the most amazing artist to hit the music scene in decades. This blog is about the only place in the world of Idol social networking where I can state that I prefer Kris’ music without being crucified. I do know that there are forums devoted to Kris discussion. But I prefer a place with a variety of topics.

I enjoy music that ranges from Bach to Black Sabbath. I know what I like and what I don’t like. I don’t search out Adam-centric sites and implore the fans there to go see or listen to Kris, Cook, Michael Buble, Alice in Chains etc. I don’t do that because I am self aware enough to know that tastes differ and it’s perfectly okay if someone can’t stand an artist that I love.

  • old bat

lol. I don’t normally read @tweets, but I had to check out how his attempt at herding the sparklymoos went over.

ravengirl57 So I missed a chastisement by @adamlambert? Who was being hated? Was this continuance of yesterday’s KA snotty remark? Slap his hand, Adam!

riceberries @adamlambert promotes & supports his friends @krisallen @ImMattGiraud & CO. so often but they never do it first for him. Upstanding guy <3

KuAdam001 @adamlambert oh my boy. i totally dont hate these peope, but you know i just look down on them, and its unworthy for spending my time on it

This is how you know he is the True Gawd. Nobody listens to him. Well, one hopes at least some of the others admiring his twat will keep their hating a little more low-profile.

    • ross

This is how you know he is the True Gawd. Nobody listens to him.

They’re insane. Those replies are sick, but hilarious. “@adamlambert promotes & supports his friends @krisallen @ImMattGiraud & CO. so often but they never do it first for him.” Can they never shut up?

I guess it was good for Adam to do what he did, if only so I could see how out of control some of they really are. I’m sure that in their minds he should know better than to associate with such rabble, but, noblesse oblige, and all that, you know.

It’s kind of like pouring a glass of water on a forest fire that’s been out of control forever, but it was a nice gesture. I can’t blame Adam for the behavior of his fans, though encouraging more kindness before this might have helped more.

      • ross

(how out of control “some of them” really are)

    • Verbally Dyslexic

I appreciate Adam’s sentiment in tweeting, although his personality on Twitter isn’t to my taste, but we knew we’d get this sort of reaction anyway.
