American Idol & Cirque du Soleil’s Viva Elvis: Confirmed

2010 April 8

Next week, American Idol’s extra-special theme will not only feature Adam Lambert as mentor, but also Cirque du Soleil’s new Las Vegas production Viva Elvis.

This has been rumored since last night’s show, but I’ve confirmed it with someone involved with the show. Looks like Adam Lambert might be heading to Las Vegas upon leaving British Columbia on Saturday morning.

Check back for updates!

Spread the word. Do it.

MJ confirmed that the theme is Elvis songs. It should be fun.

    • ross

And who better to mentor on Elvis songs than Adam Lambert.

Glamberts get defensive about the true musician stuff because Adam isn’t one and they know it. Hell, he doesn’t even read music. That used to bother me. If he loved music enough to take voice lessons until he was 22, why didn’t he learn to read music somewhere along the way? I took piano lessons as an adult and learning to read music wasn’t that hard.

Just want to let you know though that Michael Jackson & Lionel Richie both don’t read and write music. Lionel Richie mentioned this on the interview, We’ Are the World II. Just because they don’t read music doesn’t mean they cannot create great music. MJ is the Legend, the most famous and biggest pop star. j/s… Ohh. and don’t forget Ray Charles & Stevie Wonder.. and Andrea Bochelli.. they’re all international stars..

A lot of very accomplished musicians throughout history didn’t know how to read music. Maybe in classical world you have to have the ability to read music but not in pop/rock world. … and this is

“I know drummer Dennis Chambers can’t read – and it certainly hasn’t stopped him from being able to recall complex arrangements or interaction.

I guess the question is what is reading? In my opinion it’s a tool – a valuable one, of course – but not necessarily a predicator in a musician’s ability to become great. I think being able to read gives you an advantage, as you have a means of articulating your ideas in a clear and concise way. But there are definitely players who get around that.”

I was just listening to 94.1 in Vegas for shits and giggles. How pissed do you think some of these Idol contestants are going to be when they find out they could have been at a Barenaked Ladies/Five For Fighting/Orianthi/Kris Allen concert today instead of stuck in a theater? Viva Elvis, baby!

(Not sure where to put this)

I have decided I need to try to stay away for awhile when it comes to the Idol related blogs and websites. I also stopped following some Idol bloggers off my twitter too. I am no longer watching this season and I just want to let it be.

Plus I really have nothing to contribute for now. The only show I am paying attention to is f I Can Dream at the moment. I am working on putting a guide together to help watch it. I feel less guilty about wasting my time if I blog about it. I am going to talk with the editor of Reality TV Calendar, where I sometimes blog, to see if he wants me to cover If I Can Dream episodes. I am already scheduled to blog the Bachelorette in May and that is coming soon.

Plus, in real life, my workplace is exploding since an unpopular boss tried to fire two of the very best workers due to personality conflicts last week. Several temps did quit and several regulars are on the edge. I love my job and this particular boss is nice to me, but I fear I am carrying over the super charged emotions from work into my online world. Yet another reason to get some fresh air.

Hopefully if I kind of go away for a few weeks, when I am ready to come back, Kris will have a second single announced and Josiah Leming will have his album out finally.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

      Soapbox, don’t blogicide!

Have you been watching most of the If I Can Dream feeds? I’ve tried. It’s difficult. I still like Alex Lambert a lot, though. Keep meaning to write about some of it here, just have to get on it.

Getting fresh air is always good. I just got home it just felt so good to be outside. People should get off their computers more :)

    • Sandy

I would love to hear about Alex Lambert. I just don’t have the patience to watch the I Can Dream House. I tried when David Cook was on and only lasted about 10 minutes. I’d only be interested in segments where Alex was playing or talking about music.

      • muzikizmi

Yep. I would love to have the Cliff Notes version of Alex Lambert, without having to watch the webcast. If someone wants to drop interesting video bits, I will watch them.

  • soapbox0916

Posting in the spirit of the Lambert that should be on the American Idol Elvis theme is Alex. Here some youtube clips of Alex singing songs made well known by Elvis Presley. The If I Can Dream show that Alex is on now was inspired by a Elvis song. Plus there is a huge Elvis photo in the living room of the If I Can Dream House.

Alex singing Heartbreak Hotel in the Dream Studio (with Justin)

Why can’t American Idol do a Stevie Ray Vaughan week? Sigh! I love Alex on Texas Flood (one of my favorite songs).

Alex start off sing Blue Suede Shoes and then goes into a blues mash-up (with Justin)

I have no idea how to post gif files here but, the one on this link is just too much fun! Followed it from the “trackback/pingback” at the bottom of this post:

It’s a site called ‘Candy Glam’ – some tinhatter site that Lauren would probably adore.

    • Chester

      CandyGlam site is fun.
Funny and often snarky, but without malice.
      Me likey.

    • Lauren

Haha, that’s one of Gossip Candy’s sites! So yes, I adore anything that focuses on Kradam!

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Gossip Candy has returned Gossip Candy to its all-gossipy routes. Candy Glam is the new one-stop Kradam stop.

I’m glad Candy went back to making Gossip Candy all gossip. Its too good of a domain to waste on something so niche like a couple of AI contestants.

    • Idoltard10

that’s an AWESOME site. Kradam 24/7. GC loves Kradam.

  • Mimi

tiger92 is still going strong. She and other Glamberts are already swarming the headline thread at MJ’s with mock concern over whether Jive will support another single from Kris given such poor album sales. If I wasn’t so desperate for second single news I would stay away… they make the place unbearable.

    • Pandora

I check for single news at the Pulse board. There’s really nothing that can draw me to MJs anymore.

      • margie

The “concern” is so see through it is pathetic. Are there really even many Kris fans that can post there? I can’t because I am banned from calling Q3 out on her “research”.

        • Mimi

There are handful of Kris fans that pretty much keep to Kris threads. But, A LOT of people have stopped posting there altogether. Ross did put up a good fight yesterday in an Adam thread, but Glamberts kept telling him to “calm down” < >. At least I had the photos from Adam’s concert last night to cheer me up– the entire first row was either collecting or close to collecting social security.

          • margie

Oh I saw those. Where were all the boys? I only saw middle-age women and maybe a few husbands. He really does need to attract a younger fanbase. What late tens 20 yr olds want to go to a concert with people their parents age?

Saw the pics on VFTW. The grannie fans will turn him into a joke. What kills me is do you think the granny fans would be interested in him on stage if they had heard him on the radio instead of seeing him first
            on TV? Absolutely not!

          • Blue Eyes

            that should say…

interested in seeing him on stage

          • Chester

Don’t casinos have a minimum age requirement?
And as I recall tickets were rather expensive.
Is there max age limit for people attending concerts?
Why some of the posters here think that they will never age?
            Do I detect ageizm???

          • Kate123

I am so thankful my mom seems to only like classical music and Bryan Adams…if she was one of these glamberts I would die of embarrassment. I got her to watch an episode of American Idol this season as a sort of character test and she got all motherly for Aaron Kelly, proclaiming him to be the most adorable thing ever and saying that you don’t see such sweet teenage boys very often.

If she got all hot for Casey James I would have had to cut off all ties to her

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Bryan Adams! That’s so CANADIAN! HAHAHAHAHAHA

(I meant that in a nice way, I swear. It just made me giggle!)

          • Kate123

It’s aboot time for Bryan Adams to make a comeback!

        • Nich

I don’t bother reading the comments at MJ’s. I scan the first page for news or pics and ignore the comments.

        • ross

After I posted my thoughts on MJ’s blog yesterday I stopped reading, so I did not know I was being told to calm down. lol.

MJ is awesome. I sat with her at a Kris concert. We happened to be seated together. I really enjoyed meeting her.

          • et

I ran away yesterday, too. I was going to get in trouble, lol. There’s no reasoning with those hyenas.

          • Mimi

ross, your posts are awesome! You are able to keep your cool way better than I ever could. I applaud your tolerance.

          • deez

You deserve a Purple Heart, Ross. I can’t remember the last time I posted there,.. weeks ago?

        • wino

ha, i love concerned trolls. and someone just ruffled their feathers by claiming kris is a true musician and thats why DJs like him. oh snap.

          • onetimeoffer

Glamberts get defensive about the true musician stuff because Adam isn’t one and they know it. Hell, he doesn’t even read music. That used to bother me. I took piano lessons as an adult and learning to read music wasn’t that hard.

I was an Adam fan during idol but the crazies made me want to kick something whenever I read their delusional posts. I used to enjoy MJs but the glambot takeover scared me away. They’re posting the same crap they were a year ago but it’s gotten more intense (or maybe more desperate) since the “world domination” tour began. They’re starting to remind me of that group of wackos who believed the Hale-Bopp comet was going to take them to a better place.

Anyway, thanks to the glamberts, I’m not a fan anymore. I can hardly look at the guy now. But I’ll watch the show next week. It’s going to be an epic train wreck.

    • Shenanigan

I agree. Actually this is only my second day here but I am so sick of MJ’s and feeling terrible after going there, I am coming here instead. The constant Adam Lambert lovefest just gets old over there, especially since they give little space to my favorite and report when he sneezes with pictures, columns, analysis. Ugh. So hi everyone, I’m here now.

      • Pandora

Welcome! And we don’t care who your favorite is! Well, with one or two exceptions. ;)

          … of the non-Glambert.

          • muzikizmi

That is true. All of the Kris fans were banned at MJs for ‘defending’ aka challenging the concern trolls. The Glamberts figured out a way to use her rules to their advantage. The only Kris fans who can still post there, are the ones who promise to support Adam just as much as Kris.

        • margie

OT but what was with the butthurt over Cook unfollowing him and saying it was over Adam mentoring over him? Is that true? I don’t follow Cook news.

          • sodagrape

Whoever set up Cook’s twitter account added a few people for him to follow, Adam being one of them. Cook unfollowed him a few months later. It has nothing to do with Adam mentoring, unless Cook had the ability to see 6+ months into the future.

          • caspar

Unless Adam suddenly starts tweeting about 1) the KC Royals or 2)cancer charities, he and DC don’t exactly have a lot in common. (although Adam might have liked that Chatroulette rehearsal thingie).

        • deez

I think I’m gonna go check out Mj’s. I’ll leave a trail of breadcrumbs, keep your fingers crossed.

Next week’s Idol gets EVEN BETTER! There’s a strong possibility our best gal FRANCES will be in the house.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

        Welcome!

MJs is the best site for all Idol-related anything, though. And MJ is awesome. I’m just a bitchy/snarky refuge for hell, I still don’t even know. Oh yeah, b/c this entire blog is kind of based on not giving a shit about the show.

I’m glad you’re here! Please relax and stay for awhile. And comment!

        • naiya

I agree, TI. I really do appreciate MJ and all she posts. Lately, though, the comments sections are hard to take.

          • et

MJ is great, and her blog really has every bit of Idol news that you could ever want. But it also has Q3, tiger92 (did I mention I loathe tiger92?), alaadam, BeckyMD and the rest of them and I can’t take their shit so I can’t usually stand being at MJ’s long. Which is a bummer because I have been going there since S7. So I usually just hide in the Cook/Kris threads (or others that aren’t Adam) and avoid the sales/headlines threads because the Glambozos infect them either as concern trolls or posting something every time Adam loses an eyelash. GOOD NEWS!!!!!11!!! ADAM’S EYELASH FELL OUT IN JAPAN! OMG!!!11!!!

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

It really irritates me when people talk about AI Now being THE source for AI stuff. And they don’t do well with crediting other sources. No one does full Idol coverage better than MJ. The time that she devotes to her site amazes me.

Sadly, MJ has banned A LOT of batshit crazies When we had dinner before the Boston show last summer, this infuriated many followers, a bunch of which claimed I should be arrested for attempted murder because someone Tweeted me something about “throwing something hard on stage” — which was obviously in reference to the sex toys/underwear being thrown at him throughout the tour. All of the sudden, I’m a potential felon! I wish I was exaggerating that crap, but that’s how it went down. Anyway, a shitstorm happened in the thread she created for the show. She ended up banning over 30 people that night. I felt guilty.

MJ deserves a medal for most of the crap she has to put up with on a daily basis. People are always going to get pissed no matter how objective or unbiased or however you want to be. It always amazes me, really. And I think its important to note she also does not allow GLAMBULGE to be used.

        • Sandy

I go there sometimes for Idol news but I usually try to avoid the comments section because some of that crap makes me want to tear my hair out. It’s better for my sanity to avoid it.

          • Miz

I’ve been reading MJ’s since she started in Season 5 and only registered there during last year. It’s a great place to get a brief synopsis and links to most of what is out there on Idol. Unfortunately, a lot of what she posts is submitted/tweeted to her and she picks and chooses rather oddly.

I absolutely cannot handle the comment sections any more and I generally go to the sites she’s quoting from first anyway. I stick to the posts that are ‘Anyone But’ and current season. Unfortunately, they’ve taken those over too. I hate that they’re taking away my enjoyment of my guilty pleasure that is AI.

          • muzikizmi

Can we blame Idol’s shark jumpage on the Glamberts? I say Helyeah! Let’s do it. :)

  • Chester

    157 comments based on rumor?
    Amazing.

    • naiya

      158…doh…159

      • Chester

Oh, TI, working hard on getting more and more hits?
What would you do without Lambert, sweete?

        • CayKat

Umm.. and somehow Chester, you still keep coming here. *sigh – there are no words.

        • Pandora

We’d have so little to mock that we’re grateful to his BSC fans.

          • Blue Eyes

I would like to personally thank the BSC fans for all the laughs you given me. I’ve had tears from laughing so hard.

        • muzikizmi

I don’t know about TI, but without Adam, I would smile more often.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Why is it a rumor? Oh wait. Because I’m just a blog and there’s no way it could be legit, right?

    • caspar

Yeah, whoever heard of Idol fans talking a lot about rumours! No way!
Does something about this particular rumour disturb you, Chester? Hmmmm???

    • margie

Upset because it is every bad cliche put in one show. Entertaining it will be, but it make the ROCKGAWD look like an idiot…a poser…a laughing stalk. Who can take him seriously if this turns out to be true? I think he has sold his soul to AI, 19, and the Glamberts.

      • Chester

margie, I can assure you, that if the head honcho in your office would ask you to do something stupid you would say YES. So stop talking about selling or not selling soul to 19.

        • saskin

Chester, I am glad that you realize how ridiculous the theme Elvis in Vegas is. Nice to have sane Lambert fans here. :)

          • Chester

Is it confirmed? There were rumors about theme “teen Idol” going for days, and then the theme was different.
If AI could have theme “Rat Pack”, “Elvis in Vegas” doesn’t look that ridiculous any more.
Anyway, most of AI themes are not current.
I cannot wait for RAP week.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I did not confirm the theme. I confirmed the involvement with Viva Elvis. Everyone has assumed its an Elvis theme. Seems rather likely. We’ll see.

          • saskin

Whoops. Sorry. I thought you confirmed Elvis theme. So they will be in Vegas and there will be a reference made to Viva Elvis.

          • saskin

TI says it is confirmed. I think it is ridiculous. It is dated. But it is a karaoke show, so whatever they do will be dated. But giving this Peter, Paul and Mary bunch Elvis in Vegas is … I don’t know.

          • Chester

I am trying very hard to recall theme that wasn’t dated.
I think that what AI is trying to do, is to see how contestants can cope with unfamiliar territory.
Adam has to do what Simon Fuller is telling him to do. Period.
And opinions are like a**holes. Everybody here has one.

          • saskin

A**holes are also like brains ’cause everyone has one of each too. It is good to have opinions.

It is not a bad thing to be on a show that has around 20 million viewers. So Fuller is not exactly pushing him under the bus. People here are making fun of this because it is kinda unfair.

So it is all in good fun and if you like the guy, he’ll possibly benefit from this.

          • Chester

            Hey, life ain’t fair.
And making fun is good. I think that Adam is laughing too, ’cause contrary to what some are thinking about him, stupid he ain’t.
I like the guy. He entertains me to no end. And I like acoustic versions of his songs. Remixes not so much.

Adam is a good choice for Elvis week. They have plenty in common: Born and raised in the South – grew up listening to county, bluegrass, gospel, and Delta blues – sang in church – played small clubs in Arkansas … who was that we were talking about???

Love it! OK I’m all for Viva Kris!!
But to be accurate Elvis did not grow up listening to bluegrass — bluegrass was developed in Kentucky in the mid-40’s and not heard in Mississippi until much later. Elvis was born in 1935 and grew up in Tupelo, MS listening to White Gospel Music, “hillbilly” music on his favorite radio program Mississippi Slim’s show on the Tupelo radio station WELO, and Blues — and Elvis heard a lot more than Mississippi Delta Blues, that is just one of the blue traditions that flourished in Mississippi at the time.
And just a matter of state pride — Arkansas has almost nothing to do with the “Delta Blues” — the Delta Blues came from Mississippi and Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil at the Crossroads in Mississippi.
Elvis was a brilliant musician whose celebrity and image overshadowed his musical accomplishment. Elvis created a new musical fusion, could not get radio airplay, had trouble getting signed to a major label but RCA Record took a chance on him, was accused of doing obscene TV performances, was a multi-genre artist and criticized for not focusing on one genre, had an encyclopedic knowledge of music, was hard to classify as a vocalist and musicologists are still debating if he was a bari or a tenor [compromise is high tenor], vocally described as “often brilliant” at the top [upper range], with the capacity for “full-voiced high Gs and As that an opera baritone might envy, was able to duplicate the open, hoarse, ecstatic, screaming, shouting, wailing, reckless sound of the black rhythm-and-blues and gospel singers, demonstrated a remarkable ability to assimilate many other vocal styles, had mostly female fans who found him “sexy’, was universally described as nice, was very loyal to his friends, like sharp close and enjoyed dressing up, was totally unique, and was one hell of a live performer. Sound like anyone we know. Who was that we were talking about???

    • Mithra

Ugh, from. Edit button please! She’s responding to a quote, not in italics. I hope this makes sense.

    • caspar

I love the way she ignores the entire rest of the original post’s comparisons, gets her teef into a wiki definition of ‘bluegrass’ and ‘Delta Blues’ and then moves onto Madam’s all- holy ‘range’.

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

They so don’t get it, do they? Lambert’s most recent Tweet:

Had a great time tonight!!! The audience was A+ Saw u gorgeous ladies and to my delight saw all u fierce glammed out boys too!! Finally!

        • naiya

Please tell me these women aren’t making their husbands wear glitter now, too.

        • Nich

The “finally” part cracks me up.

Arkansas has nothing to do with the Delta Blues?!?! I know a SHITLOAD of folks in Helena Arkansas that would disagree. As would CeDell Davis, Robert Lockwood, Luther Allison, Willie Cobbs, Son Seals…do you want me to keep going?

How does she come up with this crap? That is a tapestry of bullshit right there.

    • Trish

I don’t know what is more horrifying at this point, the stink bugs that keep invading my home of the swarms of Glamberts who descend on MJs and make it almost intolerable to visit there. I understand they love the guy (I love a few former Idols myself), but they incessantly post so much useless crap about him, it’s all but driven me away from her blog.

      • Trish

That was supposed to read “or the swarms of Glamberts” but perhaps it was just a Freudian slip! ;-)

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

You’re the second person whose told me about stinkbugs invading their house in the last 12 hours. I saw a photo of what these look like. They sound dreadful.

        • Trish

They are so heinous it’s unbelievable. I’m somebody who hates to squash a fly, but I hate stinkbugs so much that I torture them before I kill them and throw them out the front door hoping their buddies will be forewarned. j/k (sort of)

Apparently they came into this country on some Asian freighter or something. They’re not native to the US at all. We used to have a ladybug problem. They disappared when the stinkbugs arrived a couple of years ago. Then the stinkbugs vanished after somebody in our neighborhood had professioal pest control people treat their home. This year we’ve been invaded by ladybugs AND gigantic stinkbugs.

Consider yourself forewarned. I’m sure they’ll be in New England in a year or two!

          • FreeDavidCook

Use borax. Kills them bugs dead.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Earlier this week, I had an influx of ladybugs in my apartment. I guess it gives Oskar something to do.

        • et

I have stinkbugs. They are effing EVERYWHERE. Open the cupboard, stinkbug in the cup. Open the medicine cabinet, stinkbug sitting on the toothpaste tube. Open the drawer in the kitchen, stinkbug hanging out with the cutlery. Make ‘em go away! And I’m in the DC area, BTW. So if you’re around here and they didn’t get you yet… they’re gonna getcha.

          • Lauren

Oh no!!!!!!!!!!! I’m like 30 min from DC! *hides*

        • jukejoint

Oh. I thought “stinkbugs invading my home” was a metaphor for Chester & Gene at the Top Idol Blog.

          • Pandora

My kitty loves your monster now. Interspecies love!

      • Blue Eyes

I stopped posting at MJ’s. All that batshit crazy makes my head spin.

      • Miz

I’ll take the swarms of stink bugs.

I’ve been wanting to go through one of those threads at MJ’s and write down the handles of unique posters (yes, I know they have multiple accounts) just to see how the number of posts compare to the number of actual posters. I saw 10 posts on one page seconds apart yesterday from the same person. Surely highly superior Glamberts know how to use an Edit button.

    • peg

Yeah, someone I know(SIN) posted a revised list of shared traits between Kris and Elvis later. A few more heads exploded:) Unfortunately, most of the rebuttals to Q3 and Tiger92 were placed in “moderation”. Don’t ask how I know. At least they were distracted from their Adam worship for a few minutes. Q3 is quite the little Wiki researcher – might keep that in mind for future reference. Tiger92 may have stroked out – she may have to take a day or two off.

The funny thing is how they can miss a point that hits ‘em dead square between the eyes over there. Oh well … it was fun in a “throwing raw meat to Piranha” sort of way. For SIN that is:)

    • ftube2009

How come she didn’t finish the Elvis story so the glamburps can see into the future?

So, Kris is going to be in Vegas this weekend too. He has a concert there on Saturday.

If I were Adam, I’d much rather hang out with my friend than try and mentor the S9 contestants while dealing with some weird-ass theme!

    • Lauren

I am hoping Kris will make an unexpected appearance. That would be awesome.

      • BettyBlue

Where? At Adam’s hotel room? Remember, what happens in Vegas …

That comment is just for you, Lauren.

        • Lauren

Pahahahahaha. I had originally meant on Idol, but I like your idea better. ;)

Hehe, I mean if it would happen anywhere, it would happen in Vegas ;)

        • Lamberkitten

LOL! I liked that too :)

  • Trish

Oh, you must all head over to MJs. She has a new thread up quoting Adam:

Adam Lambert tells Virgin 95.3 in an interview today that he’ll be honest when he mentors the Top 9 next week on American Idol. “I think I need to work on being not so honest,” he laughed, “I’ll be nice and constructive, but I’ll probably be very straightforward.”

    • Trish

I hope, while Adam is being very “straightforward” (homophobe!!!), Casey is very “gayforward.”

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

How is non-honesty going to help anyone?

      • muzikizmi

Is he really saying that this batch is so bad, that if he is completely honest, the show is over?

        • melbelle

i’m sure crystal will appreciate that

    • FreeDavidCook

Wait, wait, that is one very confusing statement. He needs to work on being not honest yet he says he’ll be nice and straightforward to the Idol Wannabes? Passive aggressive much?

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

It would be much better viewing if he was honest. Oh, and maybe more helpful to the contestants if the advice was solid. I somehow can’t some of them benefiting from his critique in all actuality. Maybe I’m wrong, but say, what is he going to do to improve Crystal Bowersox, who is consistently told by the judges (i.e., Simon) not to change a thing.

I also do not know how Elvis songs, if this is indeed the theme, can be “reinvented.” They’re too dated, in many ways. I think one of the best themes was Mariah Carey. I cannot stand Mariah Carey’s music, yet they were perfect for “changing up.” I enjoyed Jason Castro’s performance that night, and what he did to Don’t Wanna Cry(?) but that night still stands out for me because of David Cook’s Always Be My Baby. Cook took a song I always hated and made me absolutely love it. His version, at least. His version of that song is 100% superior to the original dreck.

        • dresden

hey now don’t be dissing mz. mariah… the beyotch can sing, and has an assload full of awards and records – billboard and guinness book – to back it up, lol… cook sang a pretty decent rearrangement, but i’ve always thought abmb was kinda overrated. and better than hers… no, just… no, lol… we still cool though, but let’s not get crazy here.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Oh, I can’t dispute Mariah’s accomplishments. Never will. She’s a phenom. I’ve just never much cared for her music. Like I’ve mentioned before, never been into big “diva-y” voices. But she’s earned all of her success, she’s just not my cup of tea.

Although I totally watched Glitter out of curiosity on HBO years ago.

        • deez

I hate Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion…the whole boatload of the type which Simon LOVES. They make want to shove a screwdriver in my ears.

          • dresden

‘passes screwdriver’, lol… they’ve been played out on idol, true, but they didn’t become the big 3 just because only simon loves them. simon has a thing for the sistas if no one hasn’t figured that out already, so i can see the whitney and mariah love… celine – maybe he likes them horsey looking too – his last girlfriend and leona lewis looked like sisters, lol.

          • deez

Terri? Ha! You’re right. Whatever happened to her? Didn’t she have some stalker drama or something during the show last year?

          • dresden

she’s probably somewhere plotting to shank his behind for putting up w/his stuff all those years, then he off and gets engaged to someone else, lol… i kid, because i’ve read he is very generous financially with his ex’s… like buying them million dollar homes and shit. heck, he enough bought leona lewis a mansion in la after she broke here with ‘bleeding love’, so who knows what the real deal is there… i’d take a whack at that too if i get a mansion out of it, and a few mil. i do think his sista love has influenced the type of ‘mainstream’ singer on the show he was looking for, and the type he used to salivate over.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to let you know that I have a book entitled, “Adam Lambert Second to Kris” that will soon be available as an email attachment. To receive my “book”, you must first remit $11.34 to marymulch@realjobzr4suckaaas.com. After receipt of your cash, you may receive my 6,138 page collection of photoshops, google graphs, and the entire double-blind study I performed with my kittehs, Pussums and Smooks.

My book is incredible <3 !!!! You will NOT BELIEVE how I prove to you the dishonesty, deceit, and heterophobia engaged in by Glamberts! Super-sekrit watch parties were all held over San Diego where pretty gay men dressed as The Village People handed out free samples of MAC lipgloss to participants!!!! (corporate sponsorship!) Simon Cowell was also present. A person from San Diego whose cousin’s hairdresser was there, emailed me that Simon said he would pimp Adam mercilessly in exchange for a mentoring appearance during S9!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!! There are also literally SEVERAL Google Trends and market research charts that show that only 2.8 million Glamberts somehow clicked on topics about Adam 38 million times!!!!!! STATISTICAL RESULTS WERE SKEWED!!!! WHY DID GOOGLE NOT INVESTIGATE? Reps from IDF were on hand to show Glamberts and Lambskanks alike, how to spam polls and buy multiple copies of FYE with minimal wrist fatigue. Fabulous legwarmers were also sold to defray the replacement cost of Adam’s brother’s laptop; Negative Neil (a raging heterosexual) frisbeed his original laptop from a 5th story window after throwing a frau induced hissy!!! It should also be noted that illegal voting instructions were to be found @ every single Adam Lambert fansite!!! OMG!!!!!!! Never. in. the. history. of. history. has. this. been. done. before!!11!1!!!1!!! I believe that all these unfair circumstances created a situation which denied DANNY GOKEY his rightful second place finish. Look for the real facts of truthiness in my book! COMING SOON!!!

Previous time they did Elvis the following songs were used:

    Taylor Hicks:
    1. Jailhouse Rock
    5. In the Ghetto

    Daughtry:
    2. Suspicious Minds
    6. A Little Less Conversation

    Elliott:
    3. If I Can Dream
    7. Trouble

    Kat McPhee
    4. Hound Dog/All Shook Up Medley
    8. Cant Help Falling In Love With You

Expect to see those same songs again. This bunch has shown nothing if not a willingness to redo songs already done. Except maybe Casey. He seems to be trying to find unsung songs the past few weeks.

A Little Less Conversation, Jailhouse Rock and You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me have all been performed 3 times. Trouble, Suspicious Minds and Always on My Mind — twice each. Treat Me Nice and Love Me Tender, plus the ones from above that I didn’t already mention in this paragraph — once each.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Why do I keep picturing Casey James doing Suspicious Minds?

Did David Cook do Suspicious Minds? Why do I keep thinking this?

      • caspar

NOOOOO!!!! Thank heavens, S7 didn’t have anything Elvis themed.

      • jukejoint

Colton Berry (yes, season 7) was the other one who did “Suspicious Minds.” It was 60s night.

        • caspar

I think Danny Noriega (wasn’t that his name?)did an Elvis song, too, now that I think about it. Jailhouse Rock, maybe? Trainwreck, as I recall.

          • Mithra

Yeah, Danny being Danny does a song, Jailhouse Rock, from 1957 for sixties week. :duh :D I think that was when Simon called him “grotesque” and he replied “somebody’s not likin it.”

    • auntieaimee

90% of those songs are hideous. Remember the movie Mars Attacks, when they played Slim Whitman and the aliens heads exploded? That’s going to be me. I freakin’ hate Elvis Presley.

      • Burgundy LaRue

I just looked at a list of Elvis songs. There’s a lot of them, but only a handful that can be done without going off into LooLoo Land. Man, do some of those lyrics stink.

    • Blue Eyes

Don’t the frauen love Elvis? This is just another example of American Idol reaching out to the frauen to suck them dry out of their cash. The frauen are going to wet themselves from excitement, but everyone else will be bored to death.

How long is it going to take the sparkle cows to leap to the obvious conclusion that NO ONE but the second coming himself could possibly mentor on Elvis night. Adam is the next Elvis remember?

        • MissMyEm

I thought he was the next Freddy Mercury. Color me confused. Maybe he can be both.

Freddy Presley or Elvis Mercury. Maybe Elvis Takes Mercury.

          • FreeDavidCook

Well Freddie did like to end a lot of Queen concerts with Jailhouse Rock…

I shall don my fugly old Elvis Presley scrubs with pictures of the young stoned Elvi and drink corn squeezings likker like Granny Clampett as I view this travesty. I only hope someone does “Baby You’re So Square” or the Elvis version of “Old McDonald”

    • Blue Eyes

OK, I remember when Taylor sung In the Ghetto and loved it. Also remember Daughtry singing Suspicious Minds and loved him too, but don’t remember anyone else.

      • jukejoint

I thought Elliott won the night with “Trouble.” It was against type for him and he really did it well.

Kat was definitely the bottom of the barrel with both of her choices.

      • MissMyEm

I hate the song but I thought Taylor did it fairly well. I’m not an Elvis fan either, so other than Can’t Help Falling In Love…I’m not wild about it.

I can tolerate Return To Sender. That’s probably my limit.

    • Sandy

Didn’t David Archuleta sing Love Me Tender?

      • Pandora

So we should probably expect Aaron Kelly to sing it, right? But I have this horrible vision of him singing Can’t Help Falling in Love, which really needs to be reserved for Timmy.

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

OMG. Can’t Help Falling In Love is Timmy’s song. And I’ve thought about that since yesterday. No one else can sing it!

          • Pandora

Yes yes yes. Imagine the close-up on his sincere blue eyes as he sings to all the tweenagers. Timmy FTW!

  • Idoltard10

The girls should all dress like Katy Perry did in her ‘Waking Up in Vegas’ Idol performance. Cape with names on the back and all. Dudes too. Not too hot on this theme, given the contestants we have here this year. Adam could pull the look off(he already looks like a younger, hotter version of Elvis when he does the pompadour) but not the s9 crop. Oh helllll noooo. What were they thinking? All they had to do was tell Robert Plant that Adam was mentoring that week and get permission for a Zeppelin theme. Those songs would be great for the guitar players, and could be rearranged/worked out for the rest. Adam could have sang WLL on the results show. Simple.

    • Lauren

      I like that idea better.

      • Idoltard10

Plant would have consented to it if they had asked. That’s how they got WLL cleared for Adam last year. Simon talked to Plant’s people or something of that nature. They don’t just let their songs be used willy nilly, but if they did it for Adam once, they’d do it again, I suspect. Also, they are letting him continue to use the song in random performances. That would be a sight better than what they’ve got planned.

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

If a song gets cleared for one contestant, then I believe its cleared for all subsequent contestants who wish to sing that song.

          • Idoltard10

Yeah I know. I meant their collection at large, or at least a collection of select songs to do a Zeppelin week. That would fit better than this Vegas Elvis BS. Even I am not crazy enough to believe that just because Adam is mentoring that these folks will do the King of Rock n Roll justice. He’s rolling over in his grave right now at the very thought, mark my words.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Your feelings about Adam Lambert aside. The dude is NOT “rock & roll.”

A Zeppelin Week would NEVER happen. Just like there will never be a Springsteen Week, even though Little Stevie’s wife is a huge tard/uh fan of the show.

          • MissMyEm

I was reading something Chikeze said about a Beatles song not clearing for him, but clearing for someone Tuesday night. He was pretty annoyed.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

            Yup. John Lennon’s Jealous Girl.

I still love Chikieze’s I Got A Woman. That was a standout performance during Season 7.

          • Pandora

And Kris tried to get Hey Jude last year, but they wouldn’t clear it, which is why he sang Come Together.

    • Verbally Dyslexic

All they had to do was tell Robert Plant that Adam was mentoring that week and get permission for a Zeppelin theme.

If they want a Zeppelin theme, then Robert Plant should mentor, not Adam. Ever.

      • Lauren

Be real. Why would Robert Plant WANT to mentor Idol?

        • Verbally Dyslexic

Perhaps I’m not making my point clear. It’s one thing to have someone else mentor when the theme revolves around a deceased artiste. Some logic can be derived from there, albeit a little twisted. But to have another performer mentor a theme week when the original icon is still alive and active in the music scene is an insult to the original artiste. I’d be surprised if any artiste would allow for that to happen. McCartney didn’t mentor for the Lennon/McCartney theme this week, but Idol would be stupid to ask another performer to mentor the contestants.

So, if theoretically Idol were to have a Zeppelin theme week (which will not happen), Robert Plant would mentor.

          • FreeDavidCook

Did you know that Led Zep used to do an Elvis song live every now and again?

      • Idoltard10

You’re right, but do you really think Robert Plant would mentor a cheesy karaoke tv show? He’s too big to waste his time like that.

  • Trish

Wait, “Elvis impersonator” is what Adam is aspiring to now????

    • cc

That is also my question. Sure, he’ll be pimped and probably get a huge boost of sales for this gig. But, will casual viewers/other artists going to take him seriously, especially with Idol stigma, when he decided to perform outside the Idol world? Probably I’m reading too much into it, but some people are already questioning him being the first Idol alum to mentor then add a WTF? theme…

Oh well, guess I just have to wait and see. This episode seems like a huge trainwreck waiting to happen. ;)

      • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Perhaps Idol figures if they’re gonna go out, might as well go down in massive flames?

        • cc

Hmm, so they’re bringing Adam down with them? Conspiracy against the Rawk Gawd?!?! Uh.oh.

Nah. Pretty sure TPTB is over their head that America has been waiting for the “next Elvis” to return to the Idol stage. (Okay, I’m getting excited now how this is going end. Their plan all along?!

  • Pandora

I want them ALL to wear white jumpsuits for the group lip-sync!

    • leastofall

Crystal, Andrew & Mike … Yes! MUST HAVE THEM ALL IN WHITE JUMPSUITS!!

    • Kate123

They should wrap Adam up head to toe and make the contestants unravel him to reveal him dressed as Elvis just like Tyra did when she was Super Smize.

Then they can go watch Cirque du Soleil on acid to free their minds and then they can rework Elvis songs to fit sitars and high pitched wails while they feel themselves up on stage.

    • barado

It’s not hard to imagine the look on Lee’s face if this happens.

      • Miz

I can’t wait for the look on Lee’s face. He may ask to be disqualified.

    • FreeDavidCook

White jumpsuits with all those tragic rhinestones and studs! Don’t forget the huge white belts with the big blinged out buckles.

  • leastofall

Man… I hope Adam wears the Elvis White Jumpsuit! and borrow that cape from Katy Perry and to make the look his own, wear that spikey codpiece! Ooooh YEAH!

Tim HAS to sing “A little less conversation”!!

    • mtlfan

a codpiece with Elvis face would be original and more stick him to the them, no? :D

  • barado

If any of these contestants are smart enough, they could choose some of Elvis’ gospel recordings, – even “Bosom of Abraham.” Did any contestants go this route during season 5′s Elvis week, I can’t remember.

    • peg

If any of these contestants are smart enough – they’ll slit their wrists.

    • Kathy

Nope it was just the final 4 and they sang 2 each but all picked pretty standard Elvis tunes I think.

    • MissMyEm

Mike may. I kind of thought his rendition of Eleanor Rigby sounded kind of Gospel like.

    • Pandora

I think of all of them Crystal could do the best GospelElvis.

      • Idoltard10

How did Kris get Hey Jude for tour but not the show?

        • old bat

from what I recall of discussions during tour period, concert performance rights are easier to get than tv ones. Also, Kris was originally thinking of the Revolution song and changed his mind and did Come Together instead, if I have not altogether gone senile.

          • Idoltard10

So they release certain songs to be used on TV, not entire catalogs? This is confusing, but ok. Thanks for the info.

  • carli

Did the “someone involved with the show” happen to say if Adam will be mentoring the Idols on Sat or just arriving on Sat, possibly mentoring on Sun? I live in Vegas so the info would be great! thx.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I will receive more details tomorrow :)

  • http://drlulzington.wordpress.com/ Doctor Lulzington

Adam mentoring a possible Elvis theme? Elvis didn’t just roll over in his grave. He came to life just so he could kill himself immediately.

    • Kate123

      Lol!

I hope in his intro package they show pictures from his casino shows..everyone should get a good look at the “glamily”..

    • VBeaver

That must be why Priscilla Presley praised him saying “Elvis would have loved someone like Adam, he would have loved him.” and Lisa Marie Presley is following him on Twitter.

      Also, this theme sucks.

      • mtlfan

i bet Lisa Marie will unfollow once it’s done

  • et

OK, that’s so full of cheese that it might even make me watch. Vegas! Glambert! Scared sheeple bunch of Idolettes singing Elvis!

    What’s not to love?

  • saskin

    Wow?

  • Kate123

I was planning on skipping this episode but now I can’t wait…trainwrecks are always more entertaining anyway…I just feel kind of bad for these kids…they’re not even being given a legitimate shot at being taken seriously.
