Katie Stevens goes shopping

This season, many of the American Idol contestants are buying their clothes from Century City retailer Metropark — where on Thursday, Crystal Bowersox purchased her Top 11 week ensemble. On Friday afternoon, Smug Teen Witch Katie Stevens came in to use her $500 clothing allowance at the Idol-friendly store.

It was reported that STW was super sweet and friendly, which I’m convinced was just an act! Although most people would be genuinely happy to be spending other people’s money on clothes. Katie picked up three pieces of jewelry:

Betsy Johnson’s Black & White Bow & Pearl necklace — Very Connecticut! Very semi-sweet teenager! How good for her character’s image!

Betsy Johnson’s Black Polka Dot Heart necklace — This large heart-shaped pendant is surrounded in rhinestones. It also lends further credence to my believe people may start dusting off their Heart of the Ocean knockoffs as the size and shape of is once again en vogue.

A two-finger black diamond ring — No, its not diamonds, but this is obviously Katie’s favorite piece because you could seriously cut a bitch with it. (It’s also the one of her choices I may ever consider wearing, as I just don’t do hearts & bows.) Reminiscent of brass knuckles, you best stay away from Smug Teen Witch when she covers Toni Tennille in this bad boy.

I am curious to see what some of the contestants wear this year, as Siobhan Magnus wore a killer black (maybe Marc by Marc Jacobs?) dress during the semifinals. Also curious to see if any of the girls can top my all-time favorite Idol look — Megan Joy’s adorable strapless bird frock — which I totally found at the Melrose boutique many of last year’s female contestants frequented during their season.

    Even fourth grades hate her. Like 5 of the girls in the class I aid in at my temple spent 10 minutes talking about how horrible she is and that they want her off the show. No mentions of her being pretty like a princess.

    I know you’re a high schooler from Connecticut Katie Stevens but you’ll never be as cool as Rory Gilmore.

    I’m not sure if TPTB want Katie to play this small town girl shtick or if it’s of her own making, but saying there are no large cities around her is just silly. Middlebury is on the Waterbury line, which is the 5th larges city in CT. New York City is 90 minutes away and I do believe I’ve seen a few youtube videos of her appearing to be auditioning for a part, no doubt in NYC. Hartford is only 30 minutes away, New Haven is 25 minutes away. Litchfield, Southbury, gah, so many great towns with interesting shops and dining. It’s not like the girl lives in the boonies somewhere and only has her church as an outlet, like say Lacey. (Now that would be hell on earth.) She lives in a town that people WANT to live in — small town feel with access to major cities.

    It was $450/wk during season 4, I remember Carrie Underwood saying something about that. Season 1 it was more like $100/wk.

    At least they’ve upgraded some. For years, they’d just get to go to Melrose. Half of them would shop at American Apparel, the others would actually explore Melrose a little more. I know the store where Megan got her bird outfit, as of last spring they were still selling copies.

    Do they get $500 per week or all together? I don’t think even a smug teenage witch could look anything but happy when going on a paid for shopping spree.

      Per week. I’m pretty sure they get nothing before the top 12. They’re getting more now. Not sure what it was last year, but it used to be $400 a week.
