Alex Lambert gets to stay in Hollywood on 19E’s dime

by TopIdol

One of the few bright spots of American Idol’s Season 9 was Alex Lambert. The 19-year-old was one of the few interesting singers to watch this season, yet was surprisingly sent home in the final round of the semifinals.

People were pissed. Some even started one of those oh-so-effective online petitions demanding Alex’s return to the Idol stage. They even collected 20,000 signatures.

Yesterday, People reported that Alex Lambert would be joining the cast of Simon Fuller’s web series, If I Can Dream on Thursday. If I Can Dream follows 6 Hollywood wannabes living together and pursuing their dreams of stardom. Once a cast member gets a job, they then move out of the house and someone else moves in. One of the original budding stars/starlets got work, and now Alex Lambert will take their room and become a featured member on the 24/7 live streaming web series which also premieres a new episode every Monday at midnight.

(Does this mean that an online petition was almost successful? Or just that Alex Lambert’s shocking semifinal exit was unwarranted and pathetic even for the shit show in its current on-life-support state?)

It seems Alex also got that Idol makeover, even though he didn’t make the Top 12. He’s moving in and the mullet is gone! It’s okay, though. Alex Lambert has a very existentialist attitude towards his hair.

So, you cut your hair?
I still have a mullet a little bit. It’s just hair. It’ll grow back.

It’s a shame not everyone feels that way about a little haircut. Somebody named Lillian Thomas was really upset about Alex losing his mullet, so she left a comment on People’s article in ALL CAPS, a la Kanye!

Lillian Thomas March 30th, 2010

ALEX THIS LOOK SUCKS!!! IT LOOKS LIKE ONE OF THOSE PLASTIC HOLLYWOOD MAKE OVER THINGS!!! LOKK AT THIS PICTURE! YOU DON’T EVEN LOOK THE SWEETIE YOU ARE ANYMORE!!!! MAKE IT GO AWAY!!!!! GO BACK TO THE BEATLES / ARTFUL MULLET!! OR DO A ROB THOMAS MATCHBOX 20 DAYS MULLET!! THIS IS ISNT YOU!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Uh oh…you can take the boy out of American Idol, but…

ARTFUL MULLET. ARTFUL MULLET. ARTFUL MULLET. I hope she doesn’t see Lambert sans Artful Mullet and shirt buttons on the front page of the If I Can Dream website right now. She might stick her head in the oven.

If I Can Dream looks fairly stupid. I really never had any desire to watch a web series featuring an ex-boyfriend of Miley Cyrus. It’s never something I wanted to put on my bucket list. I think David Cook was even embarrassed when [contractual obligations] he stopped by the If I Can Dream house earlier this month. And Kris Allen was there last week? Nice job Simon Fuller for roping those guys into this mess [contractual obligations].

(Ewww…why does Miley Cyrus’ ex-boyfriend Justin Gaston look a lot like her daddy Billy Ray?)

However, I dug Alex Lambert on Idol and this is reason enough to check it out for a little while. He was one of the few contestants this season who was truly compelling to watch, and its a shame we did not get to see him progress further because he was actually interesting. Oh yeah, he could sing, too, which hell, that was never really a requirement to get on the show anyway, was it?

Spread the word. Do it.

About to out myself. I am sitting here watching a little of the live feed thing and I already liked the kid but he just endeared himself to me further. He is out on the patio with the Brazilian model chick working on a song. They were talking about his name being so close to Adam’s. Alex said one day i want people to call Adam Alex Lambert. He said one day I’ll be big enough for that to happen. I also gleamed last night that he does not seem fond of Didi who happens to be coming over to dinner tonight and he did in fact get a “talking to” for saying the f word twice that night on the show. Just in case anyone wondered. I can only take this in about half hour shots here and there or I fall asleep lol

I love this kid. I can’t stomach the live feed, although I may check it out tonight b/c Lyndsey will be dining with them.

Alex Lambert. Oh, how I wish he was still on the show.

Funny, it seems like Didi did not/does not have many fans. Since she was unable to live with Siobhan…maybe that’s why Alex Lambert isn’t too keen on her, as he became close friends w/Siobhan Magnus.

One thing I noticed about this show is that they push these kids to go outside their comfort zone. They want them to be aggressively pursuing their career, giving them opportunities and they’ve got to capitalize on them. It has shade of ANTM, putting the aspiring model of the house in situations she might not be ready for, like runway modeling, et al. Justin had a show that headlined Jason Mraz. He played at 12:30 at night pretty much to an empty bar. Hysterical when he lost his pick inside his guitar. It looks like Simon Fuller is lining him up to perform in front of millions of people. My first thought was an IDOL appearance.

I honestly don’t know how Alex Lambert is going to handle the pressure. This seems really intrusive and intense, every moment being watched. Imagine all the crazies watching this crap. I don’t know how much you can see in the live stream, but there are cameras in the bathrooms and I think one of the blondes is quite uninhibited. Voyeurism for the MFW.

  • Kate123

Oh wow…I’m so stupid… I thought this thing was like a charity for terminally ill kids…kind of like Make a Wish Foundation…and that different celebs would go in and meet with the kids and stuff…the name is kind of misleading…

do people actually watch this? is it any good, because it sounds terrible…

  • kimberly

I started to warm up to Alex Lambert and thought his last performance on IDOL was pretty good. Definitely had interesting vocals, very distinctive. I would think this would make Justin a little uneasy. From what I’ve seen Alex has tremendous potential and is far more talented than Justin. Should be interesting. Justin just recieved several Gibson guitars as “gifts”. He will no longer be the singer/musician golden boy. I didn’t watch David Cook at the house, but I saw Kris Allen and he seemed fairly at ease, even when the hosts did a piss poor job of hosting. Poor guy had to do a radio interview while holding a phone, guitar and trying to eat ice cream with everyone watching him. One thing Kris has going for him, he genuinely seems to enjoy meeting and being with people. The girls of the house spoke well of him in the latest episode of IICD. I wonder how shy Alex is going to handle all this …

(Just a quick vent, everyone else certainly can and probably should ignore — Dear Tiger92, Kris Allen is not a poor man’s Cook. I am a fan of both. Two totally different artists. Why the need to always insult Kris Allen? Please go fuck yourself. Thank you. Kim)

    • et

Aw, you love Tiger92 as much as I do!

      • kimberly

Killing some time, I decided to venture over to Tiger92′s favorite
blog today and came across that garbage. Didn’t expect it because
it was in the Season 9 thread. This person spends
every day of every waking hour on that blog and never fails to
say something negative about Kris Allen. What a fucking life she m
must lead! Yeah, love her to death. lol

    • Lauren

I almost never go to mj’s, but whenever I do, she’s always there. As none of what I have seen from her is nice, I am beginning to think that I am not just catching her at bad times. lol

      • kimberly

Hey, Lauren! Happy Passover. Most definitely a very unhappy
creature. I think her whole life encompasses a bad time.
        ::wink::

        • Lauren

Thank you Kimberly! I am already SICK of Matza lol.

      • et

If you catch her at any time you will catch her at a bad time, lol. It’s like a reflex for her… post something about Kris, and she comes right back and posts something about Adam and/or does the concern troll thing. I loathe concern trolls. I’d rather you be a straight up asshat than be a concern troll.

        • Lauren

I agree, though, straight up asshat isn’t too great either.

          • et

Heh, yeah, I’m not an asshat fan either. At least be a snarky asshat… But the concern trolls are all the same people over and over again and they make me want to smash someone. And I’m a gentle girl!

          • rollingmyeyes

Delurking to say Tiger92 can go DIAF.
And bwah! at mj calling out Q3 in the headlines thread:
            http://mjsbigblog.com/idol-headlines-for-033110.htm/comment-page-2#comment-620734
(read that comment and the two that follow.)

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

            Tiger92 is a twat.

          • et

I was so happy that Q3 and Tess don’t spend much time over there anymore… and then we get Tiger92 who is like the love child of those two. Blecch.

        • Nich

I like concern trolls. They are so obvious and make me giggle.

    • ross

      HAHAHAHA!!!!!

  • Mugsy

Hey, good for Alex, mullet or not. I’m glad he got a gig. I agree, he was one of the few contestants this season with some talent.

  • Kathy
  • Kathy

It was that Justin kid singing. He does look like her dad a bit. Creepy.

  • Kathy

Ok I just logged into the feed to see what its all about and some kid is singing Falling Slowly. the nerve.

  • leastofall

Ok I sat thru 3 hours of this show bcoz of a certain house guest. I wish I hadn’t… it was torture!!! Tho HBD was his usual funny/adorkable self & surprisingly comfortable in the awkward setting but the other ppl & the show itself is just full of bs. It’s sooooo boring and a wee bit creepy!

  • et

    Artful mullet? Hee.

  • Nich

As someone who initially didn’t like Alex at all but then felt like he was slowing improving, I didn’t understand the point of that petition at all.

Yes he was better than some of the people left in the show (TIM) but not really the best despite how sucky this season has been. He still needed to loosen up a lot and maybe he would have and maybe he wouldn’t. We’ll never know.

But a petition to get him back on the show America voted him off him? Really? As if he was the first and only person ever voted off that shouldn’t have gone home so early? Did they really think it was going to get him back on the show? And if it did, how unfair would that have been to all the good contestants who got voted off for 8 seasons before him? The deification of Alex Lambert in certain Idol circles have been confusing me. Maybe he would have made the season slightly better (will he vomit or won’t he) but I can’t see him as the savor of the show. Nothing is going to save this season. Not even one of Big Mike’s hugs.

And on the snarky side, I love all the “OMG Alex didn’t thank Jessica, what a low-life” comments. They are cracking me up.

    • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I think he almost puked just that one time. Still think he would have been fun to watch. In the short time he was with us, I actually looked forward to his performances.

I bet if his last name wasn’t Lambert, he would have stuck around awhile longer ;)

      • Nich

Yeah I went from hating him to wanting to see him get better so I do think it sucked that he went so early. I just can’t get down with the petition.

LOL the Lambert name might have definitely worked against him.

        • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

Oh hell, I didn’t sign the petition. I don’t do online petitions. Except the one I started urging the return of QUATTO THE MOLE!

But I totally signed the petition on the Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution website.

          • Nich

I wasn’t saying you signed the petition or even calling you out if you did! Sorry, lol.

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

            Oh, I didn’t think you did…don’t worry ;)

          • wino

you must do a write up on Food Revolution (if you have the time). it is amazingly addictive and actually entertaining. Alice FTW :) (that adorable crazy, cranky old bytch, she really does provide some good moments on the show)

          • http://topidolblog.com TopIdol

I want to see more of Jamie Oliver and Justin Richards. (or is it Edwards?)

The food superintendent woman, who seems to be of a normal, healthy body weight, she gives insane bitch face, too.

I still want to know how the pizza counted as TWO GRAINS, dammit!

      • Sandy

He’s young, very inexperienced and was extremely nervous but I thought he showed a huge improvement over the few weeks he was there. I liked his voice and thought he had great raw talent. I still can’t get over the fact that someone like Tim made it to go on the tour over him. I would have enjoyed watching him grow if he had lasted longer.

I watched Dream House just one time when David Cook was on and I could only make it through about 10 minutes. It just looks like an uncomfortable situation for everyone there knowing that they are on camera all the time. I wish Alex well and hope he gets some support for a career but I don’t think I can watch that show again.
