Likely yet another American Idol fan scam

A few weeks ago, Adam Lambert fans began raising money to send Isabel Paquette, an 89-year-old Wisconsin woman, to Lambert’s upcoming show at the Fantasy Springs Casino. First off, this has looked shady from the get-go. The ring leader is someone purporting to be a gay Canadian Adam Lambert devotee named SweetSexySean. Rather recently, he began a blog and opened a Twitter account. Immediately, he ran a Q&A with Isabel about her love for Adam Lambert…along with a call to action urging his fellow Lambert fans to send Isabel and her daughter Joy to Indio, CA for the show. As of right now, Isabel is on her way to California. She’s even been talking to local press about the generosity of Lambert fans, including the Green Bay Gazette. But obviously, SweetSexySean needs more money to help give Isabel the trip of a lifetime.

In addition to travel expenses and hotel accomodations, Isabel suddenly needed oxygen tanks. And for the past week or so, SweetSexySean and someone called Pflagmom have been requesting this last $400 to cover these costs. Pflagmom likes to state how real she is because she’s actually giving out her real name — the very real sounding Istrea Ann. First off, let’s look at SweetSexySean, who claims his name is the very generic Sean Patrick. He is also 38-years-old. This is the photo attached to his blog and Twitter account.

Lately, SweetSexySean has taken to Tweeting about the Olympics, particularly Johnny Weir. He’s is so adept at being gay. I mean, I know soooo many 38-year-old gay men who write long-winded fanwank about Adam Lambert and his guitarist via LiveJournal (another recently opened account) and Tweet things like this

Uh…okay. Anyway, Pflagmom/Istrea Ann recently posted another call to action for THE LAST $400 via Adam Official. People have posted saying they donated $10, $25…how could they still be waiting on THE LAST $400 for this long? Pflagmom is obviously the ideal person to be entrusted with the collection of funds, as she explains the donation process with such ease, obviously accounting for any concerns fans may have regarding where their money is going.

I am Istrea Ann. I am over the Trust Fund for Isabel. It had to be put in a real person’s name (me) and Sean trusted me to do that. I was very honored to do so and have acounted of every penny donated and spent that Sean will be putting out once this is completed. Sean did not want to put the PayPal account in his name for many reasons. One being that he is in Canada and money would have been lost in the exchange rate and two he felt more then one person needed to be involved in this for ethics reasons and for when questions came up. Sean is a very smart man and I very much admire him. Sharon, I can not find your other thread but please read the OP up top and you will see how to donate. You are so kind and giving and this whole experience has been amazing! THANK YOU!

How convenient. Sean is in Canada. They needed another person involved as a matter of ethics. And about the oxygen/wheelchair rental… First off, at airports and any hotel/casino, there is NEVER any fee for wheelchair rental. Who the hell charges for such a thing in the first place? But there is no reason to believe the Fantasy Springs Casino would not provide wheelchairs to their mobility-impaired guests. When my grandmother was dying, all she wanted to do was play the slot machines at Harrah’s in St. Louis. And yes, she had a wheelchair to use whenever necessary. Quite often, my aunt would end up falling asleep in it around 4am. It is also interesting that the hotel AND wheelchair would need to be paid for when Fantasy Springs offered Isabel and her daughter free accomodations after hearing about her. A fan offered Paquette and her daughter free tickets to the show, but the pair couldn’t afford airfare. A blogger caught wind of the cause and posted the video, urging fans to send her to the concert. Within 24 hours, the money was raised and Fantasy Springs offered them a free stay. In all actuality, only $1000 would need to be raised at this point, basically just the cost of airfare from Wisconsin to California for both Isabel and her daughter. Oh, and about the oxygen tank. According to Isabel’s daughter:

“They set her up with an oxygen tank in her wheelchair just in case she needs it,” said daughter Joy Hinterberg, who is traveling with her mom.

Is she talking about the fans again? And how can request oxygen for someone without being a licensed healthcare provider? As a VFTW reader pointed out:

This whole thing is such complete BS. Medicare covers the cost of wheelchairs and oxygen equipment. The FAA does allow passengers to fly with their own chairs and airlines provide o2 on flights if necessary at a cost of about fifty dollars. Arrangements can be made through Isabel’s current o2 provider to have the needed equipment waiting for her when she gets to CA. There is no way that Sean or anyone else can set up oxygen rental for her. The o2 provider needs to have her prescriptions and medicare and or medicaid info.

If you scan through the original blog post, you can see numerous individuals pledging $100, or even the use of airline miles. So why do Pflagmom and SweetSexySean still need $400? Oh yes. Because people promised money and did not come through. It’s gotten so bad, SweetSexySean can barely sleep at night! Even today, Pflagmom is posting to Adam Official on his behalf

Come on. Something about this just ain’t right. Hopefully, Isabel will be on her way to California, but will all the money go with her? What happens if those plane tickets are suddenly canceled? Basically, all of this just seems like yet another scam. The fact they are still requesting money for something which has technically been paid for several times over? Requesting money for things likely supplied by both the airport and casino? And is someone named Kweenjeane on the take?

I’ve been tweeting with sweetsexysean. Yes, as Pflagmom said, we need the $400. I need to clarify if the w.c. and O2 will be covered by that, but being a med. social worker who has set up travel O2, I can tell you that it is insanely expensive. It’s a very special type of O2 that the FFA requires. I’m hoping they are aware of that, but I’m not so sure….folks are usually unaware and just assume they can drag a regular tank on board. SO…..we may need more than $400. I’m waiting to see if sean responds re: approaching the equipment co’s to donate the 02. I’d be happy to work on that. W.C. doesn’t concern me. Cheap, even donated ones avail. everywhere. What can we do? Need ideas ppl.

If you have any information on SweetSexySean or Pflagmom, please let me know. None of this adds up, and while we can say people are stupid for sending their money to those they only know via an online message board, do we really enjoy watching people get scammed?

    Can’t tell you how nice it is, after that distasteful storm on No Limits back in 2007, to be able to question the “sweetsexysean” hoax someplace where such doubt is tolerated. They were simply daring you every day back then to say something skeptical, affronting you with wedding plans and birthday celebrations, etc., and if you even hinted that you weren’t onboard, you were confronted: what did you mean, what were you implying? They systematically cleared out the non-believers. I hope this means they got away with so much so long that they went too far and the chickens are coming home to roost. If there really is a violation of the law, they have it coming to them. I say “they” because I do believe there’s more than one person involved, though not necessarily resembling the personas that are pushed on the Net. I must say, I never expected “sweetsexysean” to burst upon a wider scene, to go that bridge too far. Maybe what goes around really DOE come around.

      Typical tard cult control tactics. I think perhaps some of these people do this for the payoff of some sort of power and control, and in a weird way, “messageboard celeb” status. I’m not kidding. What happens is that some are not just satified with that, or become greedy when they see how so many give without questioning. It’s a slippery slope. First it’s to a direct person, Adam, who they know exists, then its to a charity, Donors Choice, which they know exists. THEN it’s to a fund set up for a fan who was murdered’s children. They established it was real because of news reports. Still arguing about donating to a fund or a charity, and idiots wanting people to buy Adam’s CD and donate them to battered womens shelters…oy veh. The main motivation is to get the attention of the beloved (Adam) and seek status in the following. It’s so damn easy for grifters to infiltrate these groups because they are so damn combative and protective of their Idol that they don’t think clearly and critically about anyone who has convinced and established themselves as one of the flock.

        Oh, and one main way the grifter gets a hold is to find an ubertard who’s going to love the power and possible benefits (like meeting the GLAMBULGE – Joy), so they team up. Makes their tarding so much more believable if they get recruits. The ones forking over the money really don’t get shit from it, and if they wake up and uestion things, what they get is a one way ticket to being ostracized and banished.

        I should add (sorry for post whoring!) that in the case of the murdered fan Terry, at first everyone believed it was true because of a tweet from her account by the babysitter. That could have easily been a scam but then later news reports showed that this was true. The point being that these fans immediately reacted as if this claim was truth with no questioning. One of the people with her hands in the thick of this ended up becoming the Gridlock scammer.

        I didn’t realize it was all part of a common syndrome. Funny they should be jumping onboard anybody’s idoldom — Lambert’s or Weir’s — because they started off making common cause, on a Queer as Folk discussion board, with Gale Harold haters. Why not infiltrate Gale’s fanbase? Frankly, it’s too smart. It’s international and self-selected and full of successful and well-educated people. He’s more the thinking person’s sex symbol. But their snarking didn’t even stop when Gale had a potentially fatal motorcycle accident and was in intensive care for head trauma. One of their cronies said, and I quote: “Re: Gale Harold – take a lesson, kids – don’t snort and drive (motorcycles). Yes I’m that big a bastard. :D ” And yes they all are.

          Are you saying that these people have been going around harassing boards for some time now?

          That was my feeling too. I don’t want to speculate before TI writes the second chapter of this mess but it makes sense that these people know what they’re doing. It is amateurish but by the book.

          I hope we get the second chapter soon. It is kind of embarrassing how much I want to understand what happened that weekend here.

            ducdebrabant, the Idol fanbases are an easy mark because of what is called the “frauen” – middle aged, some older, some younger – women of limited education who married young and became breeders. They have “mommy” mentality and usually an empty nest, talk about their “hubbys” household things and FOOD. Lots of FOOD talk. They are very simple women with disposable household incomes. A majority are from rural areas or from areas where the cost of living is relatively low. Some of them aspire to great heights and become quite pretentious. The Adam board is cluttered with vomit inspiring wank from these sorts. You may also want to google L Anne Carington to see another example, a Constantine Maroulis fan. Same deal, different object of obsession. They seem to regress to a tween/teenaged mentality of fanaticism and behaviour. It’s a pattern that many have seen and reported. They basically form into cults, and you know how grifters and charismatics love that. The lose all perspective while in the midst of their fandom. The ugliness of their attacks all in the name of an irrational mamabear protectiveness is something to behold, as you obviously have experienced as well.

            I don’t for one minute believe Sean is a man. I think the only people who do are his followers. Did “he” pass as male at the Queer as Folk board?

    Me…Moemoe
    Well I have never done this and I don’t know if I will ever do it again, but I am going to try. I am not a very creative person when it comes to writing, I do however think that I do have a story as we all do……I will just tell you about some of the things in my life that I am proud of…..My children are my life, I think I live vicarously thru them. I don’t have a problem going without so my kids can have the things they want or need. I have learned so much thru them. I had 4 children one was killed in a DWI accident, this has been the hardest time of my entire life. He was such a happy boy, the whole town loved him. He always had a smile and I can’t remember many times when he wasn’t happy. He would have been something great in his life I know this. To lose a child at such a young age is so hard there are no words for the pain that I feel sometimes. This tragedy has brought my family closer together…… I have 3 other kids who bring me such joy…my oldest is a model and a personal trainer, she is the girl I wish I would have been, she is not afraid to go after her dreams, she does this everyday. My middle child is in her 1st year of college and she is a nanny part-time. She loves children and she will make a wonderful mama. She is going to be a child physcologist or something of that sort of nature, at least that is what she says this week. She has always been a bubbly girl, she loves her friends and has tons of them, they all love her and they all call me their mama. My youngest is still in high school, he is a mama’s boy, he is such a good boy. He bought and is paying for his 1st vehicle and he takes immaculate care of it. He just started dating and I don’t really know how I feel about this, it is hard to think that my youngest is now dating. I try to keep myself healthy for them. I want to see my kids get married and have their own kids. If there is one area of my life that I think I did right is the children department, I am really proud of them and I don’t have a problem telling people about them, I don’t have a problem showing them off. Like I said they are my pride and joy so why wouldn’t I. Well I guess that is all for now. I kinda liked this I may try it again some time………..

Besides getting banned at AO and probably the one/s behind all the sockpuppet trolls, moemoe has been part of the twitter fundraising sean worship chain as well. This shit has most likely raked in BIG money beyond funding the stupid trip that may end up causing Isabel’s death. I’ve looked at a lot of the people tweeting with “them” – and they are getting much sympathy from tards who only seem to post regularly on twitter. Gullible frau, like Queen of the Rascal Chatbrat, who once let someone she only knew from a tard site stay with her in her hotel room because the moron got on a Greyhound bus from Alamaba to Connecticut with no money and only a sandwich to tard over Sanjaya during the season 6 tour. These women are easy marks. They have open wallets when it comes to helping “one of their own”, besides paying alms to their IDOL.

And these tards don’t pick up on minor details like that. of course moemoe adds in legit charitable drives, because getting sparkle cow Joy a free trip by using her old frail mother, then scamming god only knows how many thousands extra, is the same thing as donating for a non for profit charity to bring the art to kids, and aid the children of a murdered mother. Rolleyes.

          Another thing to look at is if anyone woulod question why they would go through all this trouble. It’s really not a lot. People create sockpuppets all the time for no finacial gain whatsoever. This small grifter group is getting attention, money, and best for that cow Joy, she’s likely to meet the man she’s been lusting over.

    A couple of years ago, I quit a message board I’d frequented a lot (so did several other people) in large part because we questioned the very existence of “sweetsexysean.” At that time, it seemed merely a fraud, not an actual scam, but even then there were lots of things said and done that created extreme skepticism.

    “Sean” had a conveniently abusive family history, as I recall, so that any questioning of his actual existence was so excruciatingly painful to him (his emotions were like the princess with the pea) that it was treated as abuse if you doubted his existence. His “boyfriend” Jake was fiercely protective of him, as was the site administrator (who called you vile names and wished you a horrendous death and afterlife if you were rude to “Sean”), and you simply weren’t permitted to express any doubt.

    At that time, sweetsexysean’s posts were elaborately childlike, a sort of put-on infantilism (does he still do that?). “Sean,” suffice it to say, saw splendor in the grass and glory in the flower. His persona was like something out of bad greeting cards, all pink and baby blue with bunnies and flowers. I’m not sure whether this was being portrayed as a consequence of his abuse, or just something to make it seem even more gratuitous and horrendous. The “oh look, a rainbow” stuff got old faster than milk left out in the sun.

    Although a number of us felt that our intelligence was being insulted, and resented this imposture on general principles, I don’t recall anyone being asked for money. We were, however, basically hounded out of there (it was an absolutely poisonous atmosphere anyway, for more reasons than one). I wonder if the small success of the masquerade led to this expansion of it into more social networking sites, and finally the financial arena.

    Those of us who doubted Sean’s existence believed that Jake made him up and was writing all his posts, and that’s what I still believe. I now wonder if “pflagmom” is the site administrator, who personally vouched for him, and who WAS female.

    I haven’t thought of “sweetsexysean” in some time, but one of my fellow emigres from the site pointed this page out to me, and I thought I’d add my own painful testimony. I feel sorry for anybody who sent them any money (especially in this economy). It’s one thing to make up a phony internet persona, but (and this is one thing I said back in the day that got me into such trouble) there must be a special place in hell for anybody who would trivialize the abuse of gay kids by making it part of such a persona. Now, add to that the trivializing of the handicapped and of all charitable enterprise (this new wrinkle in the story) and you really are plumbing the very depths of vileness.

        I just looked at it for the first time in (literally) years. Check out the thread “sweetsexysean” started entitled “Adam Lambert – hurt us or helped us?” It has all the childish orthography (lots of all-caps but inconsistent capitalization otherwise, studied misspellings like “appauled,” and in place of other punctuation, this: ………………) and drippy-sentimental personal testimony about Sean’s lovey-dovey life with his perfect Jake that I so unfondly remember. In this chapter of our saga, “Sean” reacts badly to Adam on the Video Music Awards, but the wise Jake corrects Grasshopper on the hastiness of his judgment.

        i had jake read my post and after he read it he and i had a long talk………….he made me think……(that’s what great husbands do LOL)………..he reminded me that we have won our fight and i can’t fight your battle there for you in the US……..but that i can support you and no matter what……..i should. he reminded me that here in Canada we had the org. QAF long before Cowlip even thought of stealing it.     I hope nobody believes that an HLS employee would discuss an ongoing investigation on an internet blog. It’s obvious that both Shelly and Michael C are sock puppets created to discredit TI and distract from the real issue and the questions being asked here. All the truly whacko internet fans seem to do this. Just look at Holly and the dozens of different names she uses to keep her forum going and attack the people who question or bash her.

    Now this is just my opinion. So all you lawler tards can not bother to threaten me with a suite. I’m guessing that Sean is really Joy or maybe a friend who is in on it with her. It’s possible that Joy really will take her dear old mother on the trip. Hey, why not enjoy an all expense paid vacation to see the object of your fantasies perform. But I’m also guessing that more money was donated than needed to fund the trip.

        I think you were right all along. But that is for AO members to contemplate about. They created the cult they’re paying for it.

        I love this catch. VFTW thread with this Sean quote from the AO ” Sean bought 500 CDs for make a wish foundation thread”.

        VFTW realizes Sean had no idea he could be ~married~ in BC when he appeared on AO.

        I really didn’t follow every single thing seanjake did and said over there and it was mostly boring so I don’t know when the “husband” nomenclature entered the picture.

        One may claim the ongoing lame wording is prolly a regional cultural difference but just a *hunch* that any bona fide Canadian LGBT person would be aware that same sex marriage was legal. In their own country!

          I remember Sean’s “all things gay” threads at AO. There were two of them at different times.

          The first one was called “Let’s Talk About All Things…Gay”. In that one he implied he was living in New York and his comment about gay marriage referred to the United States, not Canada.

          When one fan started a thread critical of him, Sean went into caps lock mode, tried hard to insult the sparkle cows and left AO in a huff. He stayed away for a couple of days but returned with a different thread called “Adam’s Love Lounge…Let’s Talk About All Things Gay” and that’s the one I see posted here. This version replaced the earlier one but he left a link in it to the original. Unfortunately the link has disappeared. Too bad because that’s the thread in which he shared “personal” information about himself.
